Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

What's he done to make you think that? Heard nothing but good things about him.

Still sitting on the "undecided" fence there I see - just the 20 or so pages now of you arguing with everyone about how it's not a bad idea to sign him.

I cant be the only one excited by the prospect of Falcao coming in

Yes he had a poor season at United but United were very average this season and none of their players covered themselves in glory

It isn't as United's first choice strikers Rooney and RVP were scoring for fun

Compared to their other summer signings Di Maria, Rojo , Luke Shaw etc I don't think Falcao was particularly poor

As for being  a prima donna, Falcao spent the majority of the season on the bench and played for their u21s. I cant remember him moaning or sulking. He seems to have a good attitude

I say we gamble on him. This guy was a world beater not so long ago. One bad season doesn't mean he's finished

£18m is a risk a club should take, not necessarily ourselves, because if you pay that and he does regain his form, bargain of the season.  Obviously there is a flip side

Rumours are that Monaco have reduced his price tag to £18m and we're considering a PERMANENT move, not loan. Apparently Falcao will not be earning more than Hazard.

£18m for a 29 year old with a dodgy knee? Remember the story about him having to wear an ice pack after every game?

I really hope the club or doctors are doing their homework on him..particularly if it's a permanent move.

£18m in this market is cheap.

He's past he's best but he's a better option then £20m Charlie Austin or £32m Benteke.

If we're specifically in the market for a striker to replace Drogba then a player like Falcao for under £20m isn't the worst we can do in the sense it probably wont eat up too much of the transfer kitty and due to his age in 3 years time you'd look to move him on which will then be around the time you'd hope Solanke is stepping up to the plate.

If getting Falcao means we bring in a Griezmann, Pogba or Varane then so be it.

Your not the only one, I would be excited by this signing too. I really wanted us to sign him when he at atletico, so I am probably looking at it through rose tinted glasses.

I have faith that the club know whether or not we can afford to gamble on him, and I have faith that if he did come, Mourinho will have plans to try get the best out of him.

Not writing a player off does't mean I'm not undecided. But calling a guy a prima donna when he's been praised for his professionalism but might've pouted is a little...harsh?

I'm not arguing either, just presenting another view based on some medical or financial facts. Isn't that what a discussion forum is about?

£32.5m for Benteke is more ridiculous than paying 18 for Falcao, by some stretch.

When he was in form he was the best no.9 on the planet. His finishing was absolutely sublime regardless of left foot or right foot. Also for a guy who doesn't look the most strongest he was very physically able and one of the best at attacking a ball in the air. Scored so many headed goals.

He looked a shadow of himself at United though, so if we were to buy/loan him Jose must be very confident that he can work him back to what he was.

His aerial ability was incredible. It would be great if he could pass some of that on to Costa. Comparisons will be made with the Torres situation but just about everything is different, from the financial outlay to the type of player.

Aerial ability is a bit irrelevant at Chelsea as we never have anyone that can cross.

I was against this at the start and I don't think mourinho is a miracle worker. Essien never played to the max after his knee injuries and sheva never got his speed back.

The only way to really know would be to put him through a trial and I don't believe you can do that under the transfer rules.

I have also heard he is older than he claims.

I would like it to work but I think the odds are poor.

The age myth was debunked awhile back now, he's proven his age through official documents etc.

I don't think we'd be buying Falcao for aerial ability, in fact that's the reason he's probably a better choice than Benteke, we're not a team that's going to fling endless crosses into the box for our forwards. Our build up play is a lot more patient than that and Costa has been a success because of his intelligent movement off the ball.

Villa's game plan is more or less, get it wide, cross it in and hope that Benteke can do something with it, I don't think we could play like that and that's why personally I don't think Benteke would be a good fit for us.

Well said, injuries affect different players in different ways. That is simply it.

I hope after this match today we all agree Solanke is simply not ready yet.

Absolutely. The clamour for the club to give the 3rd striking slot to a kid was wrong. Going from U18 or U21 to senior wihtout a loan will not work or very rarely does.

I still won't believe anybody who says they'd rather 3rd striking position be given to Bamford or Solanke over Falcao. Regardless of form.

To be fair to Falcao, his movement off the ball is excellent and something that Jose mentioned his press conference this season.

I can see the reasoning why we're interested in him as it would help us break down stubborn teams.

Going into season a fully fit Costa and Remy and a decent Falcao would be an improvement on this year.

I'd gladly give Bamford the 3rd striking position over Falcao.

He's impressed and progressed every single time he's been on loan plus we'd be saving a fortune which could be spent elsewhere.

He is also home grown so another bonus.

But Bamford wants to play. If he stays as a third striker behind Costa and Remy, he's not gonna play many games and i don't think he would like that. I'd rather see him go on loan to a Premier League club and come back next year when he can fight for the 2nd striker spot.

How many minutes does he get? This is the thing that worries me because I actually think he's a nice young bloke who deserves the best shot to make the most of his talents and right now what he needs is minutes. There are teams in the Premier League where he could get substantially more than he'd get here.

So how many minutes does he get if he stays here and does he want to be third-choice because based on what I've heard, he doesn't.

And Falcao doesn't?

That's ridiculous.

Of course he does, but if we loan him for a year, he can fight for his spot and if he isn't good enough he'll just end up being our #3 striker and after a year we can let him go. Bamford however is our youth player, we are trying to develop him. If he ends up sitting on the bench for most of the year, you can say goodbye to his development.

Assuming Chelsbear's comment was sincere and not just wumming, Drogba got about 800 minutes in the league last season but that was in a year when Remy got about 670 and Costa got just over 2000. I'd be surprised if those two played so few minutes next season so how many minutes could Bamford realistically expect to get here?

I can see a point where bamford will be more fed up of being loaned out. He has proved himself every time he's gone out on loan and not being given a fair shake. How many times is he going to be loaned out before jose sits up and says "you can be 2nd/3rd choice"? Every time he's been sent on loan he's done what's needed of him, yet the next season he's loaned out again and again, and again.

I think sending players like chalobah and bamford out on loan constantly is hindering them in all honesty, rather than improving them. They are the players who want to play for this club and be given a real chance to show their worth, not be shipped out to championship sides. What does bamford have to do to get given that chance? Score 40 championship league goals and provide 20 assists?! May as well just sell him and regret it later.

Spot on.

If he can't get a chance now Drogba's gone then I don't see him getting one at all.
