Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

For god sake I hope we aren't serious about him, even if he takes a pay cut. He doesn't have it anymore, couldn't get past the defender, no physique, bad touch, and a player terribly short of confidence. Sure, everyone deserves a second chance, but even LVG didn't give him one, and that's for a team finished 4th.

Let's be honest, many people wrote off costa and were unsure until he started banging in goals. I don't believe that falcao is as mentally fragile as torres whom will hide when things don't go well.

If this does happen let's have a little faith in Jose.

He's captain of the Colombian team for Copa America so lets hope he gives us something to shout about in that tournament, he needs a good showing.

Costa was coming in to Chelsea off the back of a 30 plus goal season.

Falcao is coming in to replace Drogba isn't he? If we keep Remy then aren't we stronger in that position next year?

The money is an issue but this club has shown itself to be fiscally responsible in recent years on the whole.

This.

Falcao won't be coming in to take Diegos place, I am sure he will try compete for it but that's a good thing. I imagine we are looking at Falcao because we want to spend bigger in other areas while waiting for our youth prospects to develop up front. Bamford will hopefully get a premier league loan and maybe Solanke aswell. Falcao is a stop gap back up striker on a lot less money than we are imagining.

I can understand the backlash due to his form last season but I can also understand how this is a good deal. We are not blowing 50 million on a player for 4 - 5 seasons.

I said nothing about him coming in to replace Costa. The poster said that people wrote Costa off and look how he turned out. I pointed out the difference being that Costa was coming in off a stunning season at atletico, and thus his immediate success came as less of a surprise.

I really don't think this is like the Torres deal either. That deal put all of our eggs in one basket and put a block on how much we could spend in other areas. If Falcao doesn't work out,we still have Costa as our first choice.

It's closer to the Sheva deal, except this one seems to have more to do with José and Mendes.

Just going to throw this out there, but in his successful periods at Porto and Atletico were they possession based teams like United or were they closer to us?

Costa wont he title and scored 30 odd goals before he joined.

This is not the same thing, not even close

My reply was more in general than aimed at your post. The outcry of this thread seems to suggest that Falcao can't kick a football and earns 500k a week and is expected to be our main man up top.

When in fact he's probably going to take a massive pay cut to join us because he probably wants success and has a lot of former team mates around him. He will be joining as a 3rd choice striker maybe a 2nd, who knows. Diego will always be number one judging on last season. He will probably be here for 1 - 2 seasons top and that will give the chance for the likes of Bamford and Solanke to gain Premier League experience. If we sign the likes of Benteke (32million, which is his release clause) for example then he will be an expensive signing sittting on the bench, a lot more expensive than Falcao and he will hinder the progress of Bamford and Solanke.

Previous clubs have done this, Utd signed Owen, they signed Larsson. Both come up with important goals, we signed Drogba at the age of 36/37 and he was no where near his former self but he still came up with important goals. This has Jose written all over it and we should have a little faith in the manager.

Before falcao went to utd he had a decent goal ratio in the french league with Monaco. He had 17 apps and 11 goals. He can score goals with the right team + set up.

I am for it to be honest - but only IF we get him on the cheap (by comparative measures).

Ok he's been rusty and isnt anywhere close to 100%, BUT Jose could revive him. We have good medical staff and Jose is Jose. Van Gaal didnt actually play him very much.

He is still capable of being ridiculously good. At times for Utd I thought he was unlucky, other times very poor. But he needed time.

Now is the time to get him when his value is down. Test him for a season, behind Costa and Remy.

Part of the problem being van gaal not playing him very often, yet he will be revived by getting minutes as a third choice behind Costa and remy?

A lot of chat on here about how he wasn't played in the right system being the reason for his misfortune. When chances came his way he made an arse of it most of the time, exemplified by his atrocious scoring record for the season. Van gaal picked the system, formations, approach etc, but can in no way be held responsible for a player missing chances when they fall. That comes down to the player, and falcao, for me, looked absolutely f**king dire last season.

There is no chance someone earning what he will be is coming in as 3rd choice.

It's Remy who will suffer and that's hugely unfair since he scores goals whenever he is picked.

He'll come in as one of two backups and Remy has probably played as much football on the right wing in the last few months as he has striker. Considering we'll begin the season without Willian or Cuadrado that could prove useful.

It's going to come down to whether they'll allow another loan or permanent.  If it's the latter he will go elsewhere. If they will do another loan, he will end up here probably.

Wrote him off ?, the only worry we had was his disciplinary record and his injury, hardly writing him off and totally different to a player who has show ZERO form for near on 2 years.

Some expressed doubts about him that went beyond his disciplinary record.

As for Falcao, we're losing a striker who scored 4 goals and looking to bring in one who got 4 goals whilst coming back from an injury. That puts us in a stronger position doesn't it?

Being pedantic but Drogba's goals per minute was still a fair bit better than Falcao's. I do highly doubt that Falcao will be third choice though. His agent has gone on the whole season about how he will go to a club where he is first choice.

The chance are it will weaken us because we had better options.

We could have a young, fit and very hungry player, who costs nothing, and will be on a fraction of his wage.

Not fantastically so, but Falcao also contributed more assists so in terms of direct goal contributions Falcao was out in front.

Ignoring the stats, I'd expect Falcao to be a better player than Drogba was last season.

Who? Bamford? Maybe but he'd get less minutes than he likely would elsewhere which may not be ideal for his development and is he actually happy to be third choice here? I've heard he isn't.

Picture of them at atletico reminds me, Costa played wide right back then right?

So, in theory, chasing a game winning goal in the champions league we could see Jose have a number of kitchen sink options. Given remy being versatile as well.

Such as;

Costa---hazard---remy

---------Falcao
