Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

Maybe I'm missing something, but how can he take a pay cut if he comes on loan?

His deal with Monaco is set in stone, they have to pay him that amount regardless..unless it's torn up, which isn't going to happen as he's a multi million pound asset to them. And Monaco sure as hell won't agree to paying 60 or 70 per cent of his wages while he plays for us.

I am pretty sure the pay cut talk was if he was transfers to us permanently, but then there is the small matter of the 30 or 40 odd million transfer fee.....

I could give you a couple of half-baked theories based on my very limited knowledge of football finances, but honestly, I have no idea how it would work and I didn't really think about it. I just assumed it would be a loan because there's no hint of a transfer fee mentioned anywhere, and that's usually the first thing you see in these sorts of reports. I also assumed it would be a loan because I don't think I can comprehend the idea that our club - or any club - would be willing to discuss the possibility of signing him to a permanent deal after the season he's just had (even at half the price Monaco were originally asking for).

He can't, only option in that regard is for Monaco to pay a % of his wages.  I'd offer them a small loan fee and 50% of wages until January, where we then reassess whether to keep him until end of season with a view to a permanent deal. If we take the option up to keep him past January we pay Monaco another small loan fee which makes the buy option legally binding.

That sounds absolutely mental reading it back to myself but it isn't beyond all possibility

It's a nice theory :-)

I'll still feel sick paying him the 150k a week 50% Wages though, going on last seasons form.

I think there's something to this Falcao rumour. We signed one useless Colombian, might as well sign another to keep him company.

And Roman does like his washed-up strikers: Shevchenko, Torres, Eto'o, Drogba Mark 2. Why stop the rot now? Besides, it's official club policy to have an over-the-hill striker on the books.

People are saying it's fine if he signs because he's only going to play the drogba role as third choice striker.

This season drogba featured in more games than Costa. According to sky sports anyway.

At least drogba is a big bully who can give defences a headache with his presence. Falcao does not offer those characteristics and will be a f**king disaster IMO.

Would in no way feel confident going into a crunch PL game with Costa and remy injured, knowing that we had falcao leading the line. This just makes no sense, at all.

The question is...who else is there?

None of the young strikers are going to be 3rd choice.

Get Falcao in on loan and have him and Remy battle it out for 2nd spot.

How much will this cost? 40m? f**k that. What on earth are they thinking?

Hope this doesn't drain the funds from other potential targets. Don't see anything wrong with having Remy as a backup -- and I don't think he'll fancy playing 3rd choice.

This could be a loan though...

So sky sports are now reporting it....genuinely staggered by this one if there is substance to the reports...

After Torres....well. I guess we'll see.

Maybe we could bring Sheva out of retirement and bring Torres back and we can have a real dynamic trio up top. Eat your heart out Barca.

That would be a dream come true.

This would be a totally bizarre signing. Four goals last season is a poor outturn, I cannot understand why we're going for him.

SSN are saying that this will be a transfer, not a loan. If so, how much will his transfer fee be? £30m? £40m? Anything more than £25m would be criminal in my view. Also there's his wages, isn't he on £360k a week as it currently stands? Hazard is our highest paid player on a reported £200k a week so for Falcao to join here as a backup he'd need to take a lot less than that.

I'm very worried that this has Torres mk 2 written all over it.
