Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

Looking like a disappointing summer at the moment. Losing cech to arsenal, and not really looking like we are in for any top players. Reminds me the summer we lost Robben and signed malouda, Ben haim, and sidwell.

Hopefully we pull something out the bag, because the likes of song, alderweirald, and Austin, aren't gonna improve us much if at all.

Cech to arsenal doesn't sit right with me, but I'm already over the initial anger and disappointment. He's still a legend regardless.

I just hope jt goes out the right way with us. It's been a pity the way lamps and cech have left the club, neither given much of send off, and neither being wished well with their next club.

I really hope we can persuade begovic to come, and maybe he may consider being a number 2, if it means he finish his career with a medal or 2 on the mantle piece.

Comments of it being a disappointing summer are premature.

The season has only just ended and like most other clubs we haven't bought or sold anyone yet.

Who knows what could happen between now and the start of the season? Mourinho is no fool, he's not going to be content going into the new season without strengthening the squad and I have full faith that's exactly what we'll do.

Let the gunners have their little victory. They were no where near us last season and cech going there isn't going to change anything. They've slowly turned into Liverpool with their history talk and the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle.

Like I said previously, my only concern is this affecting mourinho and roman's relationship. As long as we have Jose the gunners will never be a threat to Us. The board should now concentrate on placating mourinho cos I'm sure he's seething right now.

Many differing points of view. This is bringing up differing emotions in us all.

Think the best word to sum up the whole situation from my point of view now would simply be disappointing.

I think it's simply gonna hurt more than it would with some other players, say if Ramires went there (as good as he's been fo us) he isn't a legend like Cech. To lose so one like Cech to a team we absolutely loath hurts, not to mention we know this is an area they have needed to strengthen for over a decade and we all know how good Big Pete is.

If big Pete is happy, I'm happy.

A legend who wants to keep his family in London where they are happy and settled. I agree it's unfortunate, but to call him pathetic or disregard him as a legend is nonsense. I would much rather see Pete happy and playing for a rival rather than move to a different country and not be settled.

Arsenal are going to be top competitors but we're still better than them.

Think the club doesn't wanna be seen as holding players 'hostage' when they want to leave, and want to appear like a good place for players to go because the club has demonstrated they will do what's best for the player including not keeping them against their will when they want to leave. Ever since the Malouda debacle we have just let players go when they wanted like Mata, De Bruyne, Schurlle

I think this is exactly the situation. We don't want to sell Cech to Arsenal, and would much rather he went abroad, or at least went there in exchange for someone who'd really add to our squad while weakening theirs. But we know we can't keep him here as No2 (because he's still good enough to be our No1, and good enough to be No 1 at practically any club in the world).

But we don't want to be seen as a club that clings on to its players against their wishes, and our recent sales prove that.

I also think Cech is pretty much a special case, for being such a fantastic servant all these years. We'd much rather sell him to PSG or Real or anyone, but if he wants to keep his family in London, we're not going to go against his wishes.

Something that isn't mentioned much is I think Cech wants the Premier League record for clean sheets. He didn't get to where he is right now without being extremely competitive. He would not only want to beat D.James's record, but smash it. I honestly couldn't justify (in my own mind) Lampard moving to Man City, but when I view Cech's position from a competitive aspect, added with not wanting to uproot his family, then I can completely understand doing what he needs to do to go down in history as the greatest ever Premier League goalkeeper by a substantial margin. He won't get that sitting on Chelsea's bench and playing in cup games. That's what I'm telling myself (sounds logical to me at least) and it's making me feel better in this s*** situation. I love Chelsea, if it was possible to bleed blue then I probably would, but in Cech's position, knowing that he would not be half the goalkeeper he was for us without that extreme competitiveness, and so close to the record, well I would move to Arsenal too (I may never forgive myself for typing that.)

True, Staying in the premier league will only help him beat, and then make unbeatable, that clean sheet record.

Yes it's a massively dissapointing Summer as League Champions isn't it?

Yeah that comment made me spit my tea out nearly.

The off season has barely started, no transfers happened yet, and people are 'disappointed'....righto.

Nice to take things out of context.

As I alluded to in my post, the targets available to us this summer look like an underwhelming list. It's not a buyers market this summer imo. Add to the fact we are losing drogba and cech, it's shaping up to be a disappointing transfer window.

Not sure what that has to do with us being champions.

As I've just said to bjd. Not many big players looking available this summer. Considering most people had a bale/pogba/varane/rues in their summer wishlist, i'd say they will be disappointed. Don't think it's actually that strange a statement. Certainly not one to lose swig of your Sunday morning brew out.

If the markets thin on talent this Summer, then that benefits us surely?

We are the Champions, and have a squad that befits the Champions. The others are playing catch up, if we aren't able to sign top talent, the same applies to everybody else.

In any case, players who are in the headlines now as players possibly on the move aren't the be all and end all of it. Money talks, and if the team go hard after a player with a chunk of money in hand, I am pretty confident we will land him.

I think it will benefit us in the league, although I would argue that the type of player we need to improve our first 11 is much rarer than for example arsenals. So I think it will result in the chasing pack closing the gap next season.

I know the window isn't open yet, but in the last 3 seasons we had already tied up our big deals like costa, fabregas, and hazard. Last summer there were a lot of quality players on the move, fabregas, costa, sanchez, suarez, James, kroos. I don't think that sort of quality will be available this year. I see that as a disappointing window.

We could be waiting a move to trigger some action, or we could be keeping our money in our pocket until the right player is available in january or next summer.

I get what you are saying but lets be realistic. Lets look at some of the names you mentioned. Varane ? I mean where did that come from ? Hes a Real Madrid first choice defender, as if! I never understood why that name was being banded around.

Pogba ? Thats a £70m transfer. Rules us right out. He is only going to end up at 1 or 2 clubs, maybe 3 if you inc PSG. Never going to happen.

This Summer was always going to be about adding some strength in depth. Anyone thinking otherwise prob need to reassess their expectations. Whats wrong with Song or Alderwield in that respect? They would be perfect. We all want the big superstar names but that isn't where we are at the moment. We cant act too spoilt.Things are very, very rosy. We are the luckiest fans in the world.

Not got an issue with Cech so much on this, obviously he's going to want to prove himself at the highest level for as long as he can.

The club should be doing its upmost to either stop him from going to Arsenal though, or at least making them pay over the odds for a player that will significantly improve their team.

I'd also agree with those saying that ultimately team affairs, the buck should stop with Jose, outside meddling is not what is needed.

EDIT: We've had to pay over the odds for players for years, so if Arsenal want to come to the party, it's time they did as well.

I've come to accept this deal as happening now. I am no longer angry about it. I can forgive Petr thus move, but am left disappointed by his choice of next club. I understand his reasons.

TThat said window is long and we are in no rush. Am sure Petr will respect we want the best deal for him. So let's get that price up. 20mill or arsene keeps waiting.

Too early to say if the window is disappointing as a whole imo.

Getting Bertrand traroe back could be our best signing.

What really annoys me about these Gooner idiots is that their obsession with Mourinho has led to their egos becoming so inflated, that they just make up things he supposedly said and does constantly. You go onto the forums and all you'll see is "Mourinho is seething about the money Cech's being given", "Wow, Mourinho absolutely furious that Cech being paid to leave the club", "Mourinho extremely angry that he has no control over the players destination"

Unless these fools have secret jobs in the sky sports buildings then they are seriously demented

You should actually be enjoying those deluded idiots rather than getting annoyed. Dippers and them are a constant source of entertainment.

I read it can be as low as 7mil and as high as 14. I don't think there is chance arsenal will pay 20mil for Cech

Depends how much of a hard ball game we play with them. While many on here are supported of Cech wanting to stay in London, I doubt many will be supportive of us letting him go to Arsenal for a peanuts fee like 7mill.

Wenger cries himself to sleep every night with images of Fabregas lifting the PL trophy in his head. Hot off the heels of his 2.5 year long insomnia spell after we won the CL.

This is fun

Reports this morning thay Cech has agreed personal terms but the club's are a long way off agreeing a fee.

That's better Chelsea, make them work hard for him.
