Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

I know plenty of people who go to games who know or care little about rivalries, and plenty of people who don't go to games who are very passionate about Chelsea. It's not necessarily a factor.

The forum has been through this debate before, Standup, so it's a bit unneccesary for the same stuff to just be trotted out again.

Apologies mate. Didn't mean to stir things up. I just took exception when someone questioned my decision not to applaud Cech when he turns up in his Arsenal shirt! And then kept saying I should applaud him. I'm old school and I don't like Arsenal and can't bring myself to Cher him! At the same time I can't and won't boo Cech either.

The Thing about cech that's different to say lamps, is that lamps was on the wane where as cech could potentially go on for another 5 seasons being a top keeper, also lamps didn't go to a direct London rival (ish).

....Also what annoys me is this 'he wants to stay in London because of his family' crap, I'm pretty sure even those of us who were born and bred in the capital have to move on at some point esp if you were their for work in the first place!

..Sell yer house and find new school places for your kids, everyone does it! oh the tragedy that a multi millionaire has to send his kids to a different ridiculously expensive school and find another mansion whilst he could still constantly visit London etc! he could buy his whole family their own houses along the Thames ffs! jee wizzers, some Chelsea fans must live on the moon!

fact is its a bloody travesty and the club look like right mugs pandering to the 'needs' of another player.

the only positive i can think is that its almost a propaganda exercise, showing other clubs/managers we will sell players and maybe in the future they can sell us theirs.

I find myself agreeing with this sentiment....

I think Big Pete has seriously tarnished his 'legacy' with the club.

But as some have said, i wouldn't boo him at a game, but after the original 'welcome back' applause, until he's retired or leaves Arse that'll be it from me..

Sad attitude i know.. But for me Chelsea come first, and always will.. sorry.

f**k all to be sorry about

Does Cech even live in London? I thought most of the Chelsea players lived in leafy Cobham. Trying getting from there to Islington in less than four hours on a weekday!

No. I'm not. No idea who he is? I only come on this forum every now and again.

Yea, its kind of a forum ritual to check with all new members if they are Blue Daze. Once happened with me as well.

I'm glad Cech is going to Arsenal.

I'm more of a patriot than most on here I guess and think of it in terms of:

- It's good for English football that a great player remains here, bringing the added bonus of maintaining domestic and foreign public interest in the league meaning continued revenue streams for all clubs.

- It's good for English football in giving Arsenal Cech means they will be more likely to actually do their bit towards the Premier League's co-efficient in Europe for once, meaning that we don't lose our 4th spot to Italy.

- It paints Chelsea as a club which can look past rivalries to do what is best for a player and his family, the kind of act that creates a "great" club aura around the world and makes us a more attractive proposition to future incoming signings.

- He didn't go to those arrogant new-money self-deserving Frogs.

If giving Arsenal our backup goalkeeper means they will suddenly beat us to the league title then we didn't deserve to win it anyway.

I've got to agree with Barry, for players like Cech & particularly Lampard as you've mentioned, playing for Chelsea for over 10 years should be more than just a job, especially with things they've said about the club & fans relationship over the years. You or I moving jobs is completely different, I don't have 40,000 people singing my name each week as I work away at my desk. I don't have supports who I've built a relationship with in my job. I am also not a multi-millionaire.

As Barry said if they view it as only a job, why should we treat them any different like you say, if we were drawing parallels to normal people, if we walked back in to the office of our previous employer of 10 years would they all applaud us? I highly doubt it.

I'm not having a go at you Val but I think Cech & Lamps both knew what they were doing, and if they weren't aware it would leave a bitter taste in the mouth of some fans, they've dug their head in the sand. I wouldn't go as far as to say either have tarnished their legacies but it does leave a bitter taste for me & leaves a small black mark on their time with us, the likes of which Drogs, JT & Cole, done have.

A footballer's job is indeed different from mine (and probably yours), but so is a market salesman, a doctor or an engineer. What I meant was that they go to work and view their jobs just as other people with jobs (so not scousers) do, and have a similar sort of "transferable loyalty" (for lack of a better description) to their employer as we do. Most people put themselves and their families first, and in my view quite rightly so.

I can't help but wonder if Cech's kids will wear an Arsenal shirt on the last home match when parading on the pitch, they have worn a Chelsea shirt all their lives for that

This is a wind up? Surely!

He's nowehere near the GK he was though.  Although it does make Arsenal a much stronger unit now.

I think they'll challenge next season, they've got quite a good squad in the making.  I still don't think Wenger is the man to take them to title though.

Pretty gutting, looks like vidal is going there too for 20m. As much as everyone says arsenal won't win the league with wenger still there, I think they are a real threat, wenger has built some fantastic teams before.
