John Stones

A Lose/lose situation for us, We either pay a ridiculous fee and being forced to play him week in week out ( you don't pay 35M man on the bench), and jeopadise Zouma's development along the way. We fail with the final bid and Everton has a morale boosting win over us in the transfer market. We should have stopped at 30M, told them they are dreaming about the price.

But hes good enough to play week in week out for us. If I was him I would be looking at our back line and being seeing that a starting place is right there for the taking. Its not a lose/ lose situation its a win/ win situation for both the player and our club.

If Ivan apparently does not like the idea of a 1 year contract then throw him in the deal and give them 5mill on top, that way they have a replacement CB, we have our future CB and we can play our RB where he should be playing, and play our new LB where he should be playing instead of pissing around playing players out of position....getting annoyed now with this supposed deal....tell them to piss off and don't deal with them in the future.

Nah it's alright ta. If you want him, pay an astronomical fee. We don't want any part-ex's cos you have fell out of love with Ivanovic due to his bad start to the season.

I don't understand why certain Chelsea fans are antagonistic towards us for rejecting some bids, and not rolling over and having our bellies tickled.

He's our player, under contract for a long time and your bids haven't been substantial enough to force our hand. We're entitled to say 'thanks but no thanks'.

Not sure where all this 'don't deal with them in the future' nonsense comes from.

I think we'll go for one more bid and see if it is enough. BTW didn't you buy Stones 2013? So he is basically like any of 'our youngsters' we have bought when they were 19. Nathan, Kenedy, Piazon, Traore, DeBruyne, Lukaku, Courtois and the list goes on. Seems like that is the way clubs operate. We are the ones getting all the sh*t because we can't integrate them to the first team. Not easy when 2 other international level players with more experience compete for that spot as well...

Yep, we got him at 19. Moyes beat Martinez (at Wigan) to the signing, They've got a 25% sell on (rumoured anyway), so they'll be fine. We've just bought another one of theirs, Mason Holgate, aged 18.

I don't think there's any harm buying kids in to supplement your academy, as long as your academy is functioning properly still, and providing potential first team players in the long run.

I realise it's harder for you guys because of the immense squad competition but it shouldn't be that hard to play one or two kids in your team throughout most of the season. Ok, so maybe not against City and Utd etc, but the vast majority of your home games you're going to win 2/3-0 or better. There should be space in there for genuine youth development.

We've made a new £30m bid, just seen a story on the BBC's twitter feed.

Edit: It's their "gossip column" and the story comes from the Daily Telegraph.

It does't matter what the bid is Everton will want more. The papers apparently know the bid in advance and also know its going to be turned down no matter what the number is....I wouldn't bother wasting my time dealing with that lot, especially gob sh*te Martinez....why the f**k we put our two brightest central defenders on loan is beyond me..Kalas and Christensen are as good as Stones any day of the week.

We are acting like a bunch of amateurs this window.

Either bid what they want or find someone else, there only a few weeks left.

Yeah, nothing shouts amateur more than actually negotiating a price rather than just piling in with an over the top offer.....

40 mill for a Stones who is only 21 and has over 50 official games for Everton.I mean the potential is huge but 40 mill is way too much.

Don't think he's worth it but Jose seems to want him so might as well pay them what they want.

I dont think most of us begrudge Everton holding out for a big fee, its more of a built up frustration with the lack of action from our board

Yeah, nothing shouts amateur more than actually negotiating a price rather than just piling in with an over the top offer.....

Its negotiating and then theres just waisting time. A 20, 26 and 30 million offer is just that. Waisting time. Come up with an offer that has a chance of being accepted or look elswere

Certainly its amateur to leave your business to the last minute, on the other hand recovering from a slow start is also the hallmark of gifted management.

In my line of work we love those kind of people, we call them the cream.

I hope we just flip a switch and start an Aymeric Laporte train.

Awesome player, top three young FRENCH centerback along with Varane and Zouma.

35m release clause, 5m lower than Everton's asking price on Stones.

Yeah, nothing shouts amateur more than actually negotiating a price rather than just piling in with an over the top offer.....

Yeah instead we just offer an amount we know in advance they will not accept....

That's great business that...

All the noises coming out of Everton are they will not accept unless it's over £30 million...we are just wasting time like the Rooney situation.

Yeah, nothing shouts amateur more than actually negotiating a price rather than just piling in with an over the top offer.....

If there is one thing you can say about this transfer window, it's that it has been a disaster and pure amateurism from the board/Mourinho.

They have to give their fans the impression that they don't let their players go without a tough negotiation and with great reluctance in which they prised maximum fee for the player.

Can you imagine the reaction if we offered 30m and they said straight away 'yes, okay'? No club likes to give the impression they're a pushover.

I mean it's taken us a whole summer to agree a deal for a little known left back from Augsburg - a team no-one's ever heard of.

I doubt that we, as a club, give a rat's arse about what Everton need to do to appease their fans. We have to worry about our own interest here. I don't think City were starting their bids for Sterling at 20m. I know they overpaid, but they knew what they wanted and were willing to pay the price. Our transfer negotiators should have had some idea about how much it would take to prize away Stones before we even registered our interest (and if they haven't they're stealing the living), so why bother with this low bid nonsense? All it does is irritate Everton and make things harder for us.

You know you have to pay way over the odds for the young English talent, that's how things are. I haven't even seen Stones that much but if Mourinho feels he's exactly what we need, stop f**king about and pay what's required. Or if he's not worth the money they're asking, move to another target.

Actually city's opening bid for sterling was £25m and they had more offers turned down before agreeing £49m...only difference is they started the game a month earlier than we did with stones

I personally have no grudge towards Everton for holding on their best players. Not at all. If they'd fold like house of cards it'd mean they are not trying to compete with us.
