John Stones

Featured Replies

I'm not even sure £40m will get him in all honesty. And bidding beyond that would be ridiculous.

I think we just don't want to sell him under any circumstances, and we're confident he will retain or increase his value, so there's no imperative to sell. Martinez spoke at the weekend how he doesn't want to follow the Soton model of selling and reinvesting.

Obviously we're not naïve enough to think he'll always stay with us, but I am really starting to think we're just not going to sell in this window.

Get Aymeric Laporte and everyone will be happy.

The Everton Board and manager would have to be off their sh*t to not sell stones for 40 million, it' impossible to turn that down, do you know what 40 mil can do to improve a side like Everton...35 with add on's and like the special one said he will be at Chelsea

@oneclubinlondon, point taken mate. What you say makes sense.

But we feel, with another season and more development, and more international exposure that we could probably get £40m or more off City or Utd or you guys next summer. And I think that's a relatively logical position (barring catastrophic injury).

I've already accepted a bet from one of your fans who said he would be signed for £32m.

Honestly £40m wouldn't be that big a deal because Barnsley have a 25% sell on, so that's down to £30m for us and then we have to buy 2 CBs, and clubs would know we've got money so we'd be getting quoted silly money.

I really think our manager would just rather keep him for now, and if he has to be sold in the future, deal with it then.

Stones can also play RB and, potentially... DM? £35m with add ons and Stones will be at Chelsea.

As an EFC fan, and anyone who has watched him play RB would probably agree, he's terrible at right back but I can imagine him being useful as a DM.

Either way there's more chance of Hazard being involved in the deal than him going for £35m

Rather buy Laporte, Abdenour or Gimenez better prospects at around the £30m mark

Laporte is the only one that can even be remotely spoken about in the same sentence.

He may be more naturally gifted as a player than Cahill, but that doesn't make him a better defender at this particular moment in time. What has he accomplished so far? Cahill won everything there's to play for at the club level both in the UK and Europe in his two-and-a-half seasons at Chelsea and it wasn't down to some luck, he played his part. I know Cahill's limitations, they're well documented but he clearly has got mental toughness that is required to play at the highest level. Remains to be seen if Stones has it in him to deliver on a big stage.

I didn't say he was, I said he will be. Cahill has 8 years on Stones.

Cahill's a solid defender, and at this point in time is better than Stones. Same can be said for Jagielka, who I do rate slightly more than Cahill but not by much. But Stones is almost at that level already, is what I'm saying. And it's clear as day that Stones will be able to handle it, for me at least. He just doesn't get phased by things. If Cahill can handle it, I'm sure Stones can given a few more years. But at this point he needs game time for a full season, without injuries.

So it's taken us exactly a month to go from 20m to 30m and finally, get it rejected again.

Exactly, and the WHOLE WORLD knew that 30m would be rejected.

What a strange way of doing business ???

I don't think Chelsea's strategy has been that strange really. You've put in a series of bids that you knew would be rejected, but each one increasing, so it creates a transfer narrative that plays out in the media. Presumably the idea being that eventually Everton accept one of the bids, and it creates the illusion that the clubs have compromised and met in the middle, when in reality you paid roughly what you expected to pay in the first place.

It's an old one, and we're onto it.

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace: "We have no interest in selling Saido which is what I have told Daniel Levy."

What Kenwright should do ^ but he hasnt

Kenwright is very sick mate. Hard to get details but supposedly quite serious. We haven't heard much from him about anything and word is that Martinez has final say. So when Martinez says "not for sale" (which he has -- a lot) it is effectively the chairman saying it by proxy.

I know you are a Chelsea fan and you don't think from other perspectives. We have a lot of good players. Some great. Players who are better than our current squad that will actually sign from a team not in the CL are few and far between. See my post on the last page.

Martinez does not believe sell to buy works and neither do most Evertonians. Sorry mate but we're not buying the lie any longer. Doesn't work. 40m? We'd get maybe 25m left over for transfers. How does 25m help us bridge a gap of a billion pounds? 25m is what they're quoting for Ashley Williams for crying out loud! You think we get better replacing John Stones with Ashley Williams?!?!? What would help is keeping the players you lot (you, City, United) usually buy from us. That's what would help.

I wouldn't sell for 50m mate. The money doesn't help when players worth 20-30m want CL. Go ask Spurs and Liverpool how well they progressed after selling their best players.

I'd be absolutely livid I was an Everton fan and the sell on is 25%.  I don't think it'll be that at all.  Infact I'd be amazed if its above 10-15

Did not know that. Fair enough

Now that I agree with, cast iron 10000000000000%.  But £40m would, IMO, be seriously considered. It'd have to be as lets say for instance the Barnsley % is 15, that's £6m to Barnsley and 34 for Martinez to replace him.

Devil's advocate here but do you think perhaps there is a fee you'd take, but that particular fee has to be after Barnsley get their %.

So say you wanted roughly £35m in your bank for Stones, £40-41m would have to be paid by buying club altogether?

Cahill is not average.

That myth really annoys me.

He's not world class but he's one of the best centre backs in the league.

That's not a massive compliment, there's only a small handful of very good defenders in the league. Terry, Kompany, Koscielny. Everyone else is at best quite good.

All leading up to the inevitable sell to United or City for 25m next summer.

And at that point that's on Everton.  They are just pissed that we bent them over the table for Lukaku.  Bunch of bottom feeding babies.

And to think, I used to like Everton as a club.

We're not 'pissed' at all. We really like Rom, and we're happy with what we paid.

We've just got the player under contract so we're entitled to ask for whatever fee we want to, it's nothing personal. If you don't agree with our valuation, there are plenty of other excellent defenders you can get.

Its one thing defending for a mid table team & a whole other thing defending for a league topping side.

He's a big fish in a middle sized pond at the moment, can he be a big fish in a big pond!!

You could say it's the other way round mate, if you defend for the likes of barca madrid bayern or city, then you will spend less time defending than if you play for a team who has less possession of the ball.

That's not a massive compliment, there's only a small handful of very good defenders in the league. Terry, Kompany, Koscielny. Everyone else is at best quite good.

Isn't that the case in most leagues? There's generally only 3 or 4 top CB's in each top league.

Do not think 40mill will be enough and, in all honesty, has the lad or his agent even hinted he wanted to join us? Maybe he wants to go to United or Liverpool in the future rather than us.
