Papy Djilobodji

Featured Replies

Most of us would be glad to be made to look like a fool if he turns out to be a great signing. I'm not Hoping for a player to be sh*t just to say I was right.

It's just annoying that everyone has their opinion of a player ready before he's even played for us. Of course every chelsea fan hopes he turns out to be a good signing.

Depends on the player, some like Ake prove far more in the few games they get here than they do out on loan.

Not a center back but I think we should have held on to him, but I guess Jose has picked RLC

Never a good sign when a player doesn't even look good on youtube. Alright as a stop gap i guess but thats not really what we need.

Djilobodji's career began in the peanut-trading town of Kaolock, on the Saloum River where he was part of the youth academy but was not an automatic pick for the first team. He only found his way into the XI after allegedly faking registration papers and posing as a player who looked like him.

To be fair piss taking aside, he is 6'4, quick and experienced, he is actually not bad and had a brilliant free kick on him, he mightnot be such a bad stop gap.

Whilst underwhelming, I actually think this is a very sensible signing.

Clearly the clubs first choice was Stones. Having not got that man I'm glad the club haven't gone into panic mode and thrown the big money at another expensive alternative.

It's pretty clear they thought Stones was in the bag and had no second choice lined up.They have decided to bide their time, not rush into anything else and go for a cheaper stop gap and this fella fits the bill, he will almost certainly not be a long term player for us. Jose wanted another defender and he's got one, an experienced player too.

Yes we would all like to see a youngster like Kalas in the squad but id actually prefer these players playing matches, something they won't be doing if they were included in our squad, apart from the odd domestic cup game or European dead rubber which I'm pretty sure barring an injury crisis are the only times we will see this new guy.

I just think it's funny to see how far our sights have fallen this window....from the likes of Griezmann and Koke to this guy. I'm hoping he'll do it for us but I just think the window has been a shambles.

Time might move on and things might change but I personally find it refreshing when one thing stays the same.....a good old fashioned power struggle for control of transfers by Mourinho and Emenalo. Rolls back the years!

From the official site ..

"Chelsea Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Senegalese international defender Papy Djilobodji for a transfer fee of 2.7 million pounds sterling, beating off competition for his signature from other Premiership clubs as well as other famous clubs from around Europe.

Djilobodji is 26 years old and has been at Nantes for the past 6 seasons, having enjoyed great success there while seeing his reputation soar. He was a key member of their side which won promotion to Ligue 1 in 2013, the same year he won his international debut, as a reward for his impressive performances. Earlier this year Djilobodji played in both his country's matches during the African Cup of Nations, and was unfortunate to see his side exit at the group stage.

Chelsea fans familiar with the Senegal Premier League will be aware Djilobodji started his career with ASC Saloum, before moving to France to join US Senart-Moissy.

With a tally in double figures for career goals and having played nearly 170 games for Nantes, Djilobodji had entered the final year of his contract and was unwilling to sign for any longer. Once aware of his potential availability, Chelsea Football Club wasted no time in entering into negotiation with Nantes, today securing his signature on a 3 year contract.

As a sought-after international entering his peak years, Djilobodji is set to become an integral member of the squad and a firm favourite with the fans. Everybody at Chelsea Football Club would like to wish him the best of luck."

Have to admit some of that is pretty funny.

I mean give him a warm welcome of course but that is a similar write up I would expect for signing someone like Sergio Ramos or the like.

They would be way better recruiting one of our guys here to do the official write ups some of the stuff published on the official site is comedic, the report on the city game was so comedic that they published it in the tabloids taking the piss, mind you I'm certain their sh*tty writers come on forums like this to get fan opinions and were only made aware of it by us...

Meh. He's pacey, strong and a goal threat. Might be okay. For the money he came for he has nothing to lose. Who knows he might turn out to be a coup. Lets not rule him out until we see him play. How many people thought Ivanovic or Azpi would turn out like they have?? Obviously I'm talking about Ivan in his prime not the sh*t Ivan now! Give him a chance! KTBFFH
