Things I have taken from today.

1. Better (ish)

2. Any defence with Terry, Cahill and Ivan is so lacking in pace it has to affect the whole team.

3. Ivan particularly is exposed for pace again and again.

4. Matic bought nothing. Time to look at DM options.

5. Mikel had a good half.

6. Willian needs to work on his left foot. His unwillingness to even try simple passes sometimes with his left makes him a bit too predictable. He could be amazing if defenders were less sure.

7. Costa......

8. Any manager is going to struggle without injecting a bit of fresh blood, especially in defence. Can we get Ake back in Jan?

9. Hopefully now Guus has seen the multiple problems he will address them.

sad times when i'm not really dissapointed at all with draw versus watford at home

really happy seeing costa back to being aggressive and smart with his positioning

I'd like to see two up front, it's working for Watford, trouble is we only believe in having three strikers.

 

You mean one striker. But yep, I wouldn't really be averse to trying a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 at this stage.

Which is why pep said we need atleast 10 replacements in chelsea to be competitive. Though it is exaggerated we need a centre back replacement,fabregas and oscar..We should have won 3-0, if oscar had scored, matic didn't try to protect his face, there was no deflection on the second goal.But we got 1 points, period though we played much better... Its a sad evening for us.

Thought we played pretty well and deserved a win despite 2 individual errors.

Matic has given away 2 soft penalties and a had a poor sending off this season. He has been poor for a long time.

Costa seemed to get some confidence after his 1st goal.

Seeing the way Matic and Fabregas played today pretty much explains why we've been so poor this season.

 

If the answer is Mikel, then we're just plugging holes and hoping to get away with it.

 

Can't be arsed with Oscar or Pedro anymore. Couple of lightweights.

Most infuriating aspect of the play is the ponderous attack down the right between Willian and Ivanovic.

When any type of cross eventually gets played into the box, the opposition players have had enough time to do a couple of laps around the pitch then jog back into place.

What's more, you know, if you're lucky, there's only Costa there surrounded by about 5 players who are all waiting to easily clear it - and other Chelsea midgets and weaklings either nowhere in sight, or incapable of making any sort of presence felt.

I don't care what anyone says Ivanovic has to stop appearing at right back.

The players always seem to play this silly little trickling pass down the side to get from a semi-promising situation to an arguably worse situation, and most of the time they don't manage to pull it off.

Complete waste.

Put Azpi in his place and Baba on the left.

At least you're likely to get some quality ball into the box from both sides.

Well played Obi Mikel, actually played with a bit of class and composure, though you feel if he was to get a start he'll do something to remind you why you never want him to start in the first place.

Well played Costa, too, for the goals and a bit more hunger.

Why oh why didn't he take the pen to complete his hat trick?

Not that bad of a performance but inferior to that sunderland game.. probably came with a lilttle bit unprepared due to christmas eve maybe..

 

surprised that oscar took the penalty, his shooting is mostly weak and lack control but that's not the reason why I was surprised, it's on why diego costa didn't insist on taking it considering he's on a hattrick.. I thought he's the biggest ego among the players, no? I still prefer hazard to take it tho, he's more composed..

 

In a summary, unnecessary handball, deflection, missed penalty and a couple of missed good chances by costa that prevented us from victory.. *sigh.. better luck next time.

Rebuild shattered confidence? That's exactly why the clueless and incompetent Matic was a liability today. When you're trying to rebuild confidence the last thing you need is someone giving away needless pens and Fabregas who frankly was a f**king passenger.

Bet Emenalo still blames 'the individual'...two points above the relegation zone, wahey...season summed up by Costa finding some form but now suspended for man Utd

 

We won and drew since he'd left. Unlike most games under Mourinho this season, we actually deserved to win this one. Under Jose, going 1-2, we'd have lost. Instead we were Oscar's penalty away from winning it.

 

Most importantly, the overall team performance was better in both matches. We were trying to win it instead of just falling apart at the first sign of trouble.

2 games without Mourinho - 2 penalties.

No campaign though.

Im confused, I thought the campaign was against Chelsea? Was it against Mourinho?

Main frustration is that if Oscar scores that pen and we secure a rare come from behind win, you just know that would have given this fragile lot some belief...instead it's just more negativity and dropped points all of our own making

trust us to give all these minnows points. pisses me off.

That is harsh. Mikel when he came on for Fabergas gave a solid cover to our back 4 esp with both of Watfords strikers being a physical menace. Mikel does the dirty job, does not venture of leaving the position exposed and is happy to be a backup. Also, he knows that the position of DM is un-glamorous and does his duty with no fuss. I dont know what more can u ask from a disciplined DM. Trust me if Arsenal had Mikel as their DM instead of Flamini then they would be very very solid in defense. 

 

What is clear though is that it is high time we drop Matic and Fabergas. Mikel and RLC need to start more if we are going for the 2 man DM.

He makes me so irate, I swear he's lined up to do every single one of our games.

Our players continually look half a yard behind anyone we play recently. Watford today, and recently  Stoke, Bournemouth, Leicester,  Spuds and at times Sunderland and Norwich. Other teams are closing us down with a high intensity and it results in sloppy mistakes from our boys, who at times seem unable to control a ball or pass with any accuracy.

 

Some have mentioned we should have won, but I am not sure with that. to my eyes Watford fought harder than us and had chances to win.

Considering where we are in the table, Where Watford and Sunderland are on the table, I would say it was a far superior performance. We nearly defeated a team that is in great form. We could not win only because of some bad luck due to individual players snafu's. I expect us to win against Manchester United based on this performance. We just need to reinforce our DM - which means not playing Fabergas and I think our defense will be stronger. I see enough positivity in our attack to show that we can create something and we can trouble United.

So were gonna play 4-2-3-1 with pretty much the same people.

What if we move fabregas uptop and play willian and rlc or ramires.
