He's just issued a statement on twitter denying it and looks like he and the Foundation are beginning legal action against the Mail.

If that's so I hope he takes the mail to task.

I'm hoping the information by the Daily Mail is incorrect but this isn't unheard as other well- known cases have shown.

For example, well-known cricketer and legendary spin bowler Shane Warne had a foundation in Australia that aimed at helping disadvantaged children in the community but it was found much of the money that was being donated toward the foundation was being used for his own interests or those close to him rather than actually being used for what the foundation claimed it was intended for.

I hope this is wrong, but if Didier is denying these accusations then I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until a proper investigation is undertaken that proves otherwise.

Obviously I'm going to be biased, as is everyone on this forum, but it isn't remotely difficult for me to choose the more believable party here. Daily Mail feed off sensationalist stories and have a blatant disregard for morals and ethical journalism. It would not surprise me one bit if they completely fabricated this. Hope Drog gets a few more million quid for his charity off them scummers

I know who I believe between Drogba and the mail. In fact anyone and the bloody mail, disgusting "newspaper" that constantly ignores the truth to sell papers.

Got to say there's a whole lot of hyperbole and sensationalism in that article.

Constantly referring to the hospital/clinic in inverted commas implying that it may not even be that.

Buried deep in the article it says that the clinic is due to open in "the coming months".

So starting from scratch the foundation started up, raised funds, bought land, built the clinic, is hiring staff and equipment and is due to open within six years.

How long did projects like the millennium dome take?

Yeah, f**k the Daily Mail. Bunch of c**ts.

Edited as I had not read the entire article or more was added later by the Daily Mail. Honestly it does make grim reading. I truly hope its BS

'Benefit of the doubt' over that f**king slimy rag? How very big of you.

Just because some Aussie cricketer is on the take doesn't mean they all are

We don't know the truth either way.

There's no need to be aggressive! I don't believe it's true in my personal opinion.

I've just read that Didier has issued legal proceedings against the Daily Mail.

Certainly makes me very confident that nothing untoward is going on.

I stand by what I said about the Mail, aggression wasn't aimed at you in any case. So don't be so sensitive.

Maybe I read you wrong but giving begrudging benefit of the doubt whilst presenting an example of another top sportsman ripping people off, doesn't strike me as you being anywhere near impartial? Apologies if I got you wrong though.

There's no need to apologise.

I do wonder though apart from the obvious of wanting to sell newspapers what prompted the Mail to write such a news story to begin with? It just seems rather odd.

They find out some facts twist it and sensationalise it to flog papers. Probably still make a profit when settling with DD out of court for their libelous article

For many years now the Daily Mail has run a campaign against providing aid etc to developing countries etc. The paper's criticism of aid isn't, sadly, limited to Didier's campaign.

It's a bit rich coming from a paper whose owner avoids paying tax and if I remember correctly was the journal which accused the Milliband brothers' father of being a communist and having no respect for the U.K - this despite being him serving in the Royal Navy. Sorry, I know i'm going off subject a bit but the Daily Mail makes my blood boil.

Hmm? Love Drogba to bits. Really hope this isn't true... Personally, I don't trust many charities. Very rarely do significant funds reach those who are actually in need of aid.

Truth is that if this story didn't involved Didier then I'd probably be inclined to believe it has substance going on personal experience, and I'm probably not alone in that. Hopefully it's not because he has always been one of the good guys in my view and I see no reason to doubt that until there's been a proper investigation.

Ha ha, someone edited the subject heading I provided and deleted me saying 'hope this is bollox'...anyway, still hope it's the case...as for his statement, of course he and his pr team are going to deny it, what else are they going to say, so that can't be taken as gospel either...hopefully if there is an inquiry into the figures, someone can prove its all legit...
