The Brit Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 And by my calculations, you can attend the player of the season by default awards at £210 a person (website says £175+vat presumably to somehow lure us in quoting a cheaper price than is actually the case)... We all know Willian is going to get it and atmosphere will be as flat as stale bubbly...who would seriously want to go to this? http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/04/awards-night-date-and-ticket-news.html
ShedEnder91 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Willian probably should win it because he's been the best of a bad bunch, although Costa was excellent after Christmas and was key to us (still can't believe I'm typing this) avoiding relegation. 11 goals and 6 assists over a period of 15 games was remarkable, especially when you consider Willian has managed 10 goals and 6 assists all season. But he's done a lot of running too so he'll probably get it. Personally though, I'd be amused to see the fans have a protest vote and make sure someone like Papy or Falcao or Pato wins. Let the board know that they've f**ked up. Maybe that's a little unfair on Willian but like you say, it's a pointless award at a pointless event at the end of a pointless season. Or maybe a better idea is to make sure everyone votes for John Terry. Rather than use it to point out their failings in the transfer market, maybe we should use it to show them just how much we love the man and want him to stay. Someone should create some hashtag bollocks so it 'trends'.
andy Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I don't share your points of view.... it is a little like out seasons over brigade. We could be mid-table dwellers again for some years. We are not scousers. We have no divine right to trophies or top 4 and we all know success is cyclical. What should we do ? stop celebrating our seasons ? stop appreciating our players ? we should celebrate this season like any other.
ForeverCarefree Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I don't even think Willian has been that good this season.

What should we do ? stop celebrating our seasons ? stop appreciating our players ? we should celebrate this season like any other. Open-top bus then? It'd be raking over old arguments but which players deserve appreciation this year? Personally I think that when you're paid to do a job, the bare minimum is that you turn up prepared to do it. What I appreciate is when players go above and beyond and we've been lucky enough to have a lot of them. Who in this current crop fits that criteria? The young lads perhaps. Willian for running a lot. Who else?
ShedEnder91 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I don't even think Willian has been that good this season. My honest view is that he's been as good as he was in recent years. I think he's the average looking girl at the end of the night. In previous years he was surrounded by beauties so he didn't stand out. Now they've all buggered off home and Willian's left at the bar alone and you start to think maybe she's better looking than you thought. She isn't. There's just less competition for your attention.
andy Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 While they wear the Blue they are Chelsea players and deserve our admiration good or bad season. We moaned about players in the 70's and 80's and there were dark years. But I never remember it being like this. "What players deserve our appreciation" outrageous talk !

What should we do ? stop celebrating our seasons ? stop appreciating our players ? we should celebrate this season like any other. Our season has been a disaster. No point trying to pretend otherwise. We sacked a manager, we got chucked out of all competition while spending the most of the season languishing at the bottom of the table. It's not about not winning trophies, it's about having a squad that romped the league last year chuck it and put in pathetic performances to fleece the fans. It's certainly not like any other season, it's actually unique in that there has been very little at all to be positive about other than the season is nearly over and we have announced a new manager. For Chelsea, for the squad we have, for the money we have invested and for the ambition of the owner/club there is nothing to take from this season at all other than a few games for RLC, Traore and Kennedy. It's not glory hunting mentality either, I couldn't care less about not winning anything it's the way in which we have gone about this season that irritates me. We should award the team for clearly downing tools and not putting in the effort despite being paid millions a year? I'd be all for it had the team not treated the fans like mugs. drjonesy1994 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 People seem to think it is nailed on for Willian to get it, but is there not an argument for Costa to win it? Willian was great in the first half of the season, and has trailed off since the new year. Hasn't scored in the league since the game against Palace shortly after the new year, and since then has only scored against City in that FA cup game. On the otherside, Diego was awful first half of the season but has picked up massively and in my opinion has been our best performer of the second half of the season, and as ShedEnder91 mentioned - scored 11 and set up 6 in 15 games. Just food for thought but I don't think it should be nailed on for Willian as most expect it to be.

What are you appreciating them for? This isn't the same crop like Didier, Frank and that lot who left everything on that pitch and had a real connection with the fans. I'm sure I sound spoilt but I had far more admiration for the likes of Wisey, Spencer, Erland Johnson, Frank Sinclair etc. who didn't have half of this bunch's talent, got paid a fraction of the money but would kill themselves on that pitch. Sorry but that's my view.

BenCFC19 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 If Costa doesn't win the player of the year and the Ballon D'or for 2016 then there's a real problem, because to play as well as he has the last couple of months at the top of a 4-2-0-1 formation is nothing short of miraculous.
axman2526 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Willian has had maybe what? 2 or 3 good games since guus came in? Costa has been great since then but mostly rubbish before it. Sadly I cannot think of a player who has been consistently good for most of this season. Many constantly bad but none good. I cannot think of one player deserving of praise ahead of the others. So I guess, by default of having good half seasons, either Costa or willian.
bluegraham Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Willian for me when everyone else was playing sh*t with heads down Willian was giving he's all.

While Player of the Season is often equated with "player who contributed most to positive results", there's nothing intrinsic to the award that says it has to be entirely results based. When you have a disappointing season like this, things like attitude, leadership, etc should be considered in the award. That's why I agree it should be either Willian (attitude and effort the entire season) or Costa (combination of contribution to positive results and passion shown as the team recovered). As it's a tie in my mind between the two, I sort of hope it goes to Costa because it might convince him to stay. Special mention to Azpilicueta for his attitude and effort and JT for his leadership and positive impact on developing younger players.
The Brit Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 My dig was more aimed at the club, who have fcuked up royally and played a huge part in this season being a complete turd..now they ask for fans to fork out another £210 each to celebrate their handiwork...yes, it's harsh on the player who should get an award like any other season, but in my 30 plus years of supporting the club, few have been as depressing as this one
Armagh jose Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 They are the Chelsea at the end of the day and we support them in good AND bad. Think there will be a jt tribute for his 700 appearances whether he stays or goes

The website says something about purchasing a ballot for £25. Does that mean you have to pay for the chance to buy a ticket?
