June 28, 20179 yr Yeah, he really struggled to make an impact this tournament. Yesterday in particular was poor and lost possession easily and nearly gifted a goal to Germany. Hopefully he is still has a future here however yeah most certainly will be going out on loan. A shame about RLC being injured as he would of been very useful and could of showed a lot of potential PL suitors what he is capable of. Edited June 28, 20179 yr by STATS
June 28, 20179 yr He's had enough loans. At his age he needs to be properly starting his career. He'll be sold.
June 28, 20179 yr Yes, disappointing as I was expecting a lot from Baker and I'm sure he'll be more disappointed than anyone that he wasn't able to step up and catch the eye. Shouldn't judge a player on one tournament of International football - look how terrible Harry Kane was in the Euro's last year - but feel he has perhaps missed a chance here.
June 28, 20179 yr ward-prowse and baker are too similar, and it's obvious the u21 manager prefers focusing the midfield around him, so baker will never have the impact with ward-prowse in that team. you can see this by how much he hogs the set pieces. baker is a good set piece taker too, but didn't get a single look in that regard. it's a shame as i would like to see him do well. hopefully conte gives him the chance next season with an impressive pre-season around better players.
July 4, 20179 yr There is talk in the rags of a new deal, with another 2-year loan spell in the PL. He'd be about 24 by the end of that... Surely he'd prefer to move on and find himself a stable career somewhere, but who knows.
July 4, 20179 yr Should have gone on loan to a PL team last season instead of spending another year at Viteese. I don't think he's really improved to be honest and don't rate him as highly anymore, sell him along with RLC. Edited July 4, 20179 yr by Remodez
July 4, 20179 yr So frustrating how our young players are failing at the final hurdle. Wether it's our fault or the players aren't good enough I'm not sure.
August 7, 20178 yr any clue to Baker's status? I guess he is on the way out as well? Don Antonio has no faith w/ the CFC youth. Very sad :(
August 9, 20178 yr 2yr loan to the smoggies https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2017/8/9/16120996/lewis-baker-set-for-another-two-years-away-from-chelsea-on-loan-report Edited August 9, 20178 yr by charierre
August 9, 20178 yr Well that's him done then, he'll be about 25 by the end of that i think. Good luck to him, move onto the next one.
August 9, 20178 yr Seems pointless to go back out to holland, had it been a top team in Germany or a prem team I'd be more optimistic but if this is true he's done
August 10, 20178 yr Damn I really thought he could have made an impact this year. One of the better players in the championship now.
August 10, 20178 yr Saw him a couple of times for Vitesse but imo he never looked anywhere near ready. What he has going for him is his two footedness, can take a free kick and has a good long range strike on him. But his overal play has always looked below par to me.

August 10, 20178 yr We just don't have a clue how to nurture youth. I understand him going to Boro. If he went to a PL side he'd struggle to get regular games. Midfield is such a crucial area of the field and it's rough and tough in there, you don't get a lot of time. You have to be good. It would be a massive leap for him. At Boro he'll get games you would hope but the real travesty is the amount of time in Holland. Boro has come a little late for him you would feel. When you look at many of our youngsters, such as Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek, they're just way behind where they ought to be, and you can't really get that back in terms of your development. They've played too little games at the level required. Loftus-Cheek has basically wasted the last two years when he should have been playing. Shame, because he was the stand-out performer in a really good youth side, and was rightly made captain.
August 11, 20178 yr not gonna lie this is disappointing. out of 39 apps for vitesse (in league and cup) he got 15 goals and 7 assists. it's not incredible, but those numbers are still very good considering he was playing for vitesse. it's just a let down to constantly see promising young english (or otherwise) come through our ranks and never get a place, but instead we want to go out and buy players all the time. i understand the need to compete for trophies, but is there seriously no place in our squad for a couple young players? i am hoping boga doesn't go, but i'm really not sure.

To be honest he wouldn't have got many playing minutes here - he's re-signed again so we still hope he can step up in the future. Good luck to him at Boro and hope he can shine in a decent Championship team. Edited August 11, 20178 yr by Parisian Blue

I had hopes for Baker and actually thought he had a better all-round game than Chalobah and RLC. But this move doesn't looked to have worked out for him and at 22 this is a key time for him to be kicking on otherwise he'll be in danger of slipping down the leagues.

Which part was he proven right in? The part where Chalobah and RLC have made senior England debuts or the part where Chalobah and RLC have made senior England debuts.
