Lewis Baker- Could he make it?

Recommended Posts

For me he's the best of the bunch... just needs to be more prolific. I honestly think he can be as good as Thomas Muller at Bayern. Baker strikes as the 'Mata type', someone who can't be relied upon to contribute anything defensively but will always be a threat from set pieces and 25 yards out...

You could be right, Muller doesn't look very talented in my opinion but he'd probably be an asset to every team in world. I hope your right but I just don't see it. I agree with you on Baker though!

Surprised people think he will get anywhere near the team.

He's 21, should be playing regular games in the championship or lower prem sides already if he wants to make it.

Age shouldn't be the reason he's not in the team. 21 ain't that young anymore

If youre good enough, youre old enough. Age is irrelevant.

He did. More important he played a solid game too! Looks like he's earning himself a regular spot on Vitesse's midfield.

I don't see a topic on Nathan. You guys do know he's Chelsea too, right? Played the first 45 minutes and didn't really convince anyone so far (although he did score a few times in the preseason and in the first match of the season).

Another class player who deserves a chance with us next season. Hopefully with Conte giving the likes of Aina, Chalobah a chance it bodes well for Lewis, he's certainly proven himself! I would have liked to see him loaned to a premier league side this year as opposed to another year at Vittesse but he's certainly stepped up since last year which is good to see.

I have to disagree on this. I don't think he earned himself a loan for a PL spot based on last year. He's doing a great job this year, but there is so much more to improve for him. It's good for him to be another year at Vitesse, before going back to the UK.

If I'm honest I only saw bits and pieces of his time last year. Assuming by the name you watch a lot more of Vitesse than I do so I'll take your word on it!

However with all due respect to Dutch football (which I do rate highly), as proven with the likes of Memphis Depay, and other players in the past a successful season or two in the Eredivisie doesn't mean they could walk into a top level side like Chelsea. I'd love to see Baker with us next season but I think he needs a season of consistent Premier League football before, because a 22 year old with no top level English football experience is unlikely to get much time at a top club such as Chelsea.

Fully agree. I do think it would be good for him to go to the UK and play somewhere else for 1 or 2 years on PL level before he can be helpful for Chelsea.
