February 24, 20179 yr Fantastic in-depth article. Cheers for the link cRyptic. Some real insight in there. I've posted in here before about my very high opinion of Lewis Baker, and this feature simply adds to that. If anyone deserves to achieve his ambitions at Chelsea, he does, and it appears that the club are doing everything they can to help him make it. I remember reading that we didn't go in for Dele Ali because we felt Baker was as good a prospect. That indicates that the club is prepared to put its faith n home-grown talent when they feel it's genuinely warranted. Edited February 24, 20179 yr by Backbiter
February 24, 20179 yr Like the effort he's gone too but he does come across as a bit of a fanboy enjoying a bit of access and not very impartial...so while I like the positive review, some perspective is required...he makes out baker is zidane or something Edited February 24, 20179 yr by The Brit
February 24, 20179 yr One of the rare only, literally two footed players around. There is him, Cazorla, Pedro, Lallana but Baker is just a joy to watch. Look at two clips I found from when he was playing for our U19 in next gen series. The first against AC Milan is absolutely brilliant. He scored a brilliant free kick that game, as well I remember. But that 40 yard strike was just brilliant. He was excellent that season for us and his performances earned him his debut. The second was a free kick with his left foot against Schalke in the same comp that season. The likes of Leroy Sane were playing for Schalke then. Look how far he has gone since then. But enjoy those two clips. Hope he can fulfill his potential and make it here. Has burgeoning talent, this kid.
February 24, 20179 yr Do t get me wrong, like with all our young players I hope he makes it...but he's on loan at the graveyard that is vitesse...nowhere near the first team squad
March 2, 20179 yr He did it yesterday! Scored the 2 goals in the semi final of the cup which brings Vitesse to the final for the 4th time in history. First goal with his left, from 25 meters. Second one after a nice attack over the right side, with his right foot this time. Never won the cup with Vitesse. Hope he can help us again in the final!

Hope he can help us again in the final! 14 goals for the season. That is brilliant for a CM. Should not be surprised of his goalscoring capability really as when he was playing for our U21 around 2-3 seasons ago he got over 20 goals. Brilliant talent. Hopefully he goes the extra mile and brings home glory.
March 2, 20179 yr Bring him back next season and send RLC for a year at Vitesse. Edited March 2, 20179 yr by ForeverCarefree

And I am pretty sure, we will be looking to buy a world class CM. Baker will be 6th Choice for 2 positions. Also, not sure if Conte views RLC and Baker as players for the same position.

March 2, 20179 yr One of the players that I'd like to see playing for us. One of the best players in the Eredivisie.
April 26, 20179 yr Still got high hopes for Lewis. Great technique with both feet. Great set piece on him. Can score from long range. Really hope he impresses Conte in the summer.
April 27, 20179 yr What a player, it would be a travesty if we never integrate into our team. I think he's done more than enough to deserve his chance this season. He's the closest thing to Lampard we have
April 30, 20179 yr Just won the Dutch cup with Vitesse. Hats off to him, Nathan and Miazga for the win and Europa League spot they have now. Baker especially should be a heavy favorite to stay with the first team next season. Between him and Nat that should be enough cover if we stick with 3-4-3.
May 1, 20179 yr AC Milan apparently set to go 'all in' for Fabregas this summer, if he moves I wouldn't be surprised if Baker takes his place next season.
May 1, 20179 yr i don't think we can replace fabregas with baker. we would be weakening the team unless someone of similar ilk was to come in as a replacement for fabregas, which there aren't a lot of players out there to do that. however, baker is a player i would really love to see with chelsea next season. i feel he brings something different to our squad, and is certainly the closest comparison to lampard we have at this current moment in time.
May 27, 20179 yr Not sure how we can integrate him into the team considering even Chalobah is having a hard time getting games but we need to bring this lad in somehow. He's the same age as Bakayoko who we're looking at. Any chance Monaco take him on loan?
May 27, 20179 yr I think his time for loans is over, hes 22/23,its now or never and personally id have him ahead of Chalobah and RLC
May 27, 20179 yr he is different to chalobah. chalobah is more of a defensive cm it seems, whereas ruben i'm not sure. it's a weird one with loftus-cheek because he doesn't score enough goals, but he doesn't contribute much to defence either. he reminds me of a yaya toure, but without the goal scoring capacity. lewis baker is more in the mould of lampard, and at a similar age as lampard when he joined us. i really hope to see him in the squad next season, though of course we can never hold our breath on these things. for me, he and christensen are the two most talented players in a our loan system.
May 27, 20179 yr By no means a measure of his ability but (for the 17/18 season) Lewis was ranked 40th by Squawka's Eredivisie player rankings. He has the ability to score 'world class' goals and his set piece delivery is second to none, but (as his Squawka ranking suggests) his all round game still needs a lot of work if he's going to make it here. Sadly I don't think he's anywhere near Lampard's level at 22 Edited May 27, 20179 yr by the special one
May 27, 20179 yr I'd just like to see us give a couple of these guys a real go. I can accept not doing quite as well in the league if we blood a couple of these prospects in.

Personally I think he's best suited either as an advanced playmaker (in the mould of Fabregas) in a three man midfield with Kante/Matic (3-5-2) or advanced #10 (3-4-2-1). My gut says we play some 3-5-2 next season. Gets rid of the problem keeping Costa and signing a new ST presents and fits our CMs, Baker included, better.
