Why would Kante be making key passes/creating chances when he's a defensive midfielder?

Do aerial duels include defending set prices? If so due to Kante's height he isn't given that role for us.

Stats are fine but they can easily be manipulated to tell a certain narrative.

I think we need to do a true comparison. Whats there saves stats like, and throw ins accuracy. Until I see them then Im just not interested.

Can you include blocks, interceptions and clearances? Not picking fault i'm just genuinely interested.

According to Whoscored

Kante has 17 tackles, 8 interceptions, 6 clearances, 1 block, 6 dribbled past, 9 fouls.

Gueye has 31 tackles, 6 interceptions, 3 clearances, 2 blocks, 8 dribbled past, 4 fouls.

Dont think these stats are far off, but honestly wont expect kante to have many key passes, chances created or aerial duels won. Except for tackles/tackles won, Kante seems to be doing a better defensive job, which is also his role.

It's interesting that no one is rushing to claim that Jon Stakes has been vindicated in his argument that Gueye is far more talented than most people think.

We're only a few games into the season, let's come back to it around the mid-way point and see.

Agreed, I think Djilobodji just needs some time to settle in tbh, Sunderland will be mid-table by Christmas.

He's been terrible though, I've yet to see him have a good game.

Sunderland are a woeful side, no chance they will be mid table.

Me too - those stats do look distorted somewhat.

I like Koeman and it looks like Everton have made a good appointment there - folk are already saying could they be this seasons Leicester? But it's early days. So Gueye has had an impressive start but we're only 5 games in FFS. Let's see how he's fared with a few more (and tougher) games under his belt.

How can they ever be considered a Leicester with the investment they have had over the past few seasons.

Think he was being sarcastic.

I'm sure I've seen him make more than 9 tackles.

I was going to say the same, he made about 9 tackles in his first game for us.

I hate these stupid stats websites, too often people are using them to judge how good a player is these days. You can play terrible in every game but if you make one or two tackles here and there or get a goal and assist now and again, your stats can look impressive.

Some stat sites have a very strict definition of what they constitute a tackle.

Some only count successful tackles as ones where you fully retain possession afterwards. So if you knocked the ball out for a throw in for example they won't count it.

Don't blame stats websites if you don't understand how stats work.

I understand perfectly how stats work actually, i would just rather watch a game with my eyes than look at the stats.

If you understood perfectly you would understand that they are exactly the same thing except that your method is less objective. You make observations as you watch and the frequency of those observations allows you to draw certain conclusions.

The source of the data you use to make your judgements are statistical observations whcib are clouded with personal opinion bias. This is an unavoidable circumstance.

Statistical methods allow you to make conclusions based on more objective data. No one seriously argues it's perfect, especially when it's done as poorly as usual, but it's less subjective than "watching with your eyes".

These stats are stupid. Defensive stats have to be normalized at least by the amount of possession the opposition had. Or the number of passes the opponent attempted. Or anything that makes these numbers remotely comparable.

United just looking so so so ordinary against a mediocre League 1 team.  Just like watching Chelsea under Jose's last year....full of possession but no idea in the final third. Rooney looking like a 3rd rate player. United very pedestrian and hardly any movement going forward....this might be a great big banana skin...

Apparently Lyon were keen on signing Adebayor until they actually met:

“We had a place in our squad for Manu, so I arranged to meet him for a coffee in Lyon," [coach Bruno Genesio] is quoted as saying.

“But, to my surprise, when he arrived he asked for a shot of whisky in his coffee. He also had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth."

Genesio admitted the interview "began badly" before he decided not to pursue a move for the ex-Manchester City and Tottenham man.

I think we should offer him a contract. He seems like my kind of guy.
