I'm sorry but why exactly are United favourites ahead of Chelsea to win the league next season???

Featured Replies

Bigger spending power, the 'power' of Mourinho, a team that will gel better for next season? I don't think they should be considered favourites over us necessarily, but as a punter and a bookie, it's really tough to gauge this league.

All the odds are very similar, anyway, as it should be 3 months before the start of next season.

Because they will spend another sh*t-load of money on major signings and they may well not have CL football as a distraction.

I would still have us as favourites, with City a very close 2nd. TBH I don't think United have improved since last season under LVG.

On average the bookies make City favourites;

For me the Manc clubs are favourites, but it depends who they sign. If United sign the likes of Romagnoli, Ghoulam, van Dijk*, Semedo, Verratti, Lukaku etc they'll be a different proposition next season (irrespective whether they have CL next year). Same with City (who just imho need two quality fullbacks, van Dijk*, and a fit Gundogan to be up there). If Arsenal sign Morata or Mbappe (to replace Giroud) and keep Sanchez I've seen enough of them in recent weeks to suggest they might be up there, and if Kane continues to be as prolific Spurs can't be ruled out either. Liverpool are the dark horse for me, if they sign van Dijk and a top CF (i.e. Kalinic/Mandzukic) I can see them finishing top 2.

*another reason I think signing van Dijk is critical to our chances next season

I don't have a problem not being favourites. I embrace it. City and United were favourites ahead of us this season and look at the margin we finished ahead of both. I prefer not being favourites.

Mourinho also has an excellent record in his second season I believe. They'll spend loads in the summer, we'll have Europe and possible (hopefully not) motivation issues like 15/16.

Despite that, I still think we're overpriced at 7/2.

I think all the bookies differ. Heard city favourites with one us with another etc. Just depends on how they gauge it. Makes no sense United getting tipped though. They finished nowhere and it's hard to see them challenging.

Aren't betting odds partly driven by customers? If lots of punters put massive money on one team, the odds will naturally come down as the bookies look to minimise their exposure. Doesn't make them more likely in reality.

I just don't understand it. How can they have United favourites over us when they finished 24 POINTS behind, unbelievable.

It's propaganda! Just like they would all have us believe Rooney is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I honestly think it's a conspiracy theory that he's regarded as such a great player, he's terrible! He's destroyed 10 years of our national team. I know John Terry is a central defender, but he would have played so much better than Rooney in midfield, you can't just ping the ball about from left to right and pretend you're a midfielder! The only reason he scored that goal from the halfway line was because he was too scared he was going to have to run against someone!!

Since taking over at Porto, Jose has won the league in his second season everywhere he has been.

I think that is going to change. Even with a lot of signing, they have to bed in and they're just too ordinary at the moment. The magic of Mour is well and truly buried.

I really hope you are right goose!

I think player recruitment in general is going to be a bit of a nightmare this season, so many options for players these days. I am just glad we won it, you'd like to think we'll be in a good position in the queue.

Coming out with some BS there. Blame the national team on Rooney which also had players like Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Cole, Ferdinand, Neville. Rooney was a great player in his peak and would still do a good job for most prem teams now.

That's just it.

Bookies look at trends and what's gone before. Jose has more money than anyone else in Europe arguably to spend so the Bookies ar expecting them to bring in 4 or 5 world class names as money isnt a factor. Then you have the Jose second season syndrome which they will be banking on too.

Reality wise it's impossible to say as 4 or 5 clubs are right in it and it will be one hell of a fight for the title unless the 3 or 4 other clubs have a mare.

Does that answer your question?

And how funny would that be?

United and City will outspend us surely, however we already have a very good core and additions will just improve the squad. The Manchester teams need big changes that will require big money, and their new teams will need time to gel like every team does. So yeah let them be the favorites the pressure will be on Jose as he will have to win the title next season.

I think we need 2 or 3 top players to keep the title, teams will work us out more next season and will be better prepared.

We need to keep them guessing
