In all fairness, who gives a f**k what Sky are reporting. Their breaking news reports used to have some merit, but they have been talking bollocks all summer.

Well a couple of days ago sky breaking news states Chelsea 'want' Auba, despite no official sources, then yesterday the breaking news was Auba has '7 days to transfer', again with no evidence, and now today all of a sudden Auba isn't available for transfer. They've done it with multiple stories too.

Totally true, Sky treat Chelsea interested in Aguero as breaking news but clubs are probably interested in a host of players so the breaking news would be endless.

The rumour mill news circus conjures up some salivating mind pictures of exciting permutations and then falls apart until the next set come up again and in the process we sign one or two medium profile players ( Rudgier and Bakayoko) and hope they will gel with the final big purchases before the window closes.

 

It's mixture of fun and torture and guaranteed to blow your mind 

 

ITKs found out that Twitter is just as valid a source as the print media thus convoluting the circus. Pre-Twitter the red tops still had valid articles but now they have to compete with writers and ITKs from various places and countries as well as the clubs themselves that they cling to every story they hear and report every story as breaking news. Sad really

Could be Batman up top by himself with Llorente (or insert -any aged available & economically suitable striker) as cover, I'd be ok with that, he - Bats, seemed to earn the manager's trust after WBA away, had a run of games and scored one or two (was an issue as Conte wanted points total record). Let's face it if he had stayed an extra season in Marseille and banged in a lot of Ligue 1 goals then he'd be on the rumours board right now with an asking price of $60 mill euros plus !

BD has confirmed through German Kicker magazine that all PEA negotiations have ceased...not surprising given that there was sod all interest in him...€70m bullet dodged I feel...

reports suggesting that Chelsea is not interested to splash the cash for PEA or any striker for that matter. never cease to surprise me. board unwillingness to spend is why we were never considered European elite alongside Madrid Barca and the likes. this is the reason we never break into the next level. if the board insist on buying the Lorrentes and Bentekes of the world, opting cheap but average player, then that's the level we're gonna reach. i'm hoping we don't turn into the next Arsenal

Unwillingness to spend has been the reason people don't consider us European elite? Either thats heavy sarcasm or you are confused about which message board you're on

Well you are right in the context of where we were and what we have become but in the context of the big clubs in Europe our windows have been a bit flat as of recent..we could do with a couple of big names to throw down a proper challenge in the CL

IDK if thats down to unwillingness to spend money or the big names not being available to us for whatever reason. 

This window especially we didn't seem to have trouble ponying up for Sandro or matching what United paid for Lukaku. Supposedly we offered more than double what Milan paid for Bonucci last summer but we know the reason he wouldn't leave Italy.

Yea but what's the point of being the close but no cigar negotiators, we are willing to go 75 but not 80, for example, were willing to over pay by 40 million but not 45 million it seems strange to be in for that many big players but not close

Were we even seriously bidding 70m? Looking at the facts, we are about break even on spending over the past 4 years. I would say that means we only really want to break even in the transfer market. We probably went in at 70m for Lukaku (the only confirmed bid we have had over 50m ever) just to save a bit of face! Once we realised Costa was only going to net us 20-25m we most likely gave up on Lukaku on that basis. 

We will probably make 60m for Matic + Costa so means we have 60-70m to spend on a full back and a striker. I reckon we will get a decent right back (Danilo at 25-30m or someone I've not heard of) and a Llorente/Benteke type striker (20-25m).

 

If you ignore all the rumours and focus on the facts (one bid on Lukaku, no bids on players made available to us, Conte not signing an extension, our historical spending), that is logically where we are at.

Well we apparently bid over 60 for Sandro, I think we want to come close to breaking even but the funds are there to spend, for me it's our negotiating coming up a bit short
