I'd certainly have far more City players heck whist I'm at it I'd probably even take more Spurs or Arsenal players. It's not fantasy football so he's not going to ever get a squad of galacticos at United. What he did crave was a enforcer who breaks up play and he got it in matic. He got the creative dynamic midfielder he wanted while at Chelsea in Pogba while adding a goal scorer in Lukaku. Add to that Lindeof it's pretty much the squad he craved when he took the job as his comments suggest this and last season.
August 13, 20178 yr Got to give it to the board, they managed to give Mourinho and United the one piece they missed to be genuine title contenders this season for a measly £35 million. All the while we have had four months to replace the guy as still haven't managed to get close to anyone. Well done chaps, well f**king done. Matic has bossed it for United today. And will continue to do so in this system for them.
August 13, 20178 yr lets not get ahead of ourself guys , we were like 6th in the table after 5 round and city was top with like 3-4 points more then the 2nd place , its a long season but ManU sure do look better Edited August 13, 20178 yr by DidierDrogbalala

August 13, 20178 yr Long time lurker, first-time poster. It hurts seeing Matic in a United shirt and him playing well for them, but I honestly don't think Emenalo, Marina, and the board are to blame for him leaving to a rival. They just seem like the easiest ones to point fingers at since its hard to point fingers at the owner after all he has done for the club. Roman is the one that allowed the move and it seems to be in the same vein as when Cech left, which is him saying "You've helped the club so you can go where ever you want."http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/21/nemanja-matics-50m-man-utd-move-sanctioned-roman-abramovich/ Whiles, it seems like a nice and humane thing to do I feel like it interferes with CFC operating as an ambitious club. None of our rivals would have sold Matic to us if he was on their team. And this makes me scared for the future especially since if a player like Hazard says he wants to leave, the club would make no effort to keep him because Roman might sanction the move because he was a good servant to the club. If he can be ruthless with managers I honestly think he needs to be a bit more ruthless with how we sell our players.

August 13, 20178 yr I hope whomever let Matic go gets the sack after we finish below the mancs this season.
August 13, 20178 yr Bloody hell 4-0 United, they are going top of the table tonight. Early days, but feels a bit ominous for prospects for this season - especially since this should massively help United's confidence to smash a team like that at home, last season they had so many lacklustre home draws, including only managing a 1-1 draw in their Premiership home fixture against West Ham last November. Even more thinking now this season it is likely to be between City and United for the title, unless we make some more significant signings in the next few weeks to bolster the squad, and quickly turn it around on the pitch - otherwise we risk getting left behind this season with too much to catch up.

August 13, 20178 yr We were in a terrific situation at the end of last season. Won the league comfortably and with a few reinforcements we could've built a squad capable of challenging on all fronts this season. Instead the board decided it would be a good idea to strengthen our rivals and weaken ourselves. Hats of to them, I doubt anyone else could've done a worse job if they tried.

August 13, 20178 yr Matic should have gone Juve or no where, yesterday's loss pretty much worth 40 million there and then

It's so f**king frustrating, only Chelsea would do this to themselves. All summer we've been able to see the signs, but were constantly told it's only July, it's only August, there are weeks left, there is a week left, the window is still open we'll be fine, stop overreacting.
August 13, 20178 yr It's a long season but you can't help wondering if we've had another bad summer transfer window, just like the last two times we won the league. Fair enough we've signed big money players in Boko & Morata, but what's really improved about the side overall? The end of last season Moses was tiring, our width wasn't as strong, yet we've signed no wide players to help with rotation. Why is this? Manchester City has spent another 200 million this season when they barely needed to improve. I can't help but fear the inevitable for Conte if we don't get at least another 2 signings before the window closes. Edited August 13, 20178 yr by Slojo

A lot of us knew this was going to happen when Matic was sold a very weeks ago. He would strengthen Mourinho's title and cup ambitions seriously. It's all about keeping the net transfer spend down - that's all it matters to the Board. As for buying players over the next 2 weeks or so, don't put too much hope into it as I can only see f**king Drinkwater being bought for probably the same price that Matic was sold. Lol!

Basically, we're becoming arsenal Well, to be correct, it's the old Arsenal. Wenger has been spending a bit more cash lately. I expect the club to spend more like Tottenham once the new stadium project begins. However, the expectations from Roman and the board remains the same - win the title and challenge in the CL otherwise a big boot to whichever manager is in charge.

August 13, 20178 yr A good start for United, no doubt about it. I won't worry about Lukaku until he becomes consistent, however. If he scores in his next outings, I may revise my view. However, Matic is more of a worry. He's brought a coherence to Utd that they've missed in recent seasons. He wasn't cheap but by God he looks great value for money. An ok start for us. It's hard to gauge how good we are as Newcastle are not the strongest opposition. I feel a bit sorry for Rafa tbh; North East clubs still struggle to attract players.

For me that's not the issue, Matic was a good transfer. He wasn't compatible with our system, he was by far our worst performer last season. The only issue was Fabregas was/is lethargic, but the issue is getting a replacement for him. It's unfortunate Boko is out, but I'm not keen on his transfer anyway, he is a much more solid defensive outfit than Matic is, but I think he's a poor footballer from what I've seen of him. Regardless I still think we lack too much depth to compete with the Manchesters, that for me is the sole issue, Matic good transfer, that can all be forgotten if we make it worthwhile, so far we haven't.

Mata I am not sure but Rashford did play himself into Mourinho's good books as he likes hard working runners with an eye for goal.

Drinkwater is about to come if you believe the rags. Many months to prepare and that's what the board can come up. I didn't know Football could have such classic comedy scripts.
