Oh, Ronaldo given a second booking for diving, then he pushes the ref

Was it an actual dive or did the ref make a mistake? I can't see the match right now but the live ticker commentator says he's pretty sure it wasn't a dive.

Not sure, but what i am sure of is that it was less of a dive than the one Suarez got a penalty for.

Scott im curious to know if you are in favour of VAR system (video replay) ?

its been on in the MLS for 2 weeks now and its works very well so far

I'm really curious to see how many of the people who criticize referees or complain about refereeing decisions are against VAR. Given that everyone on the forum complains about decisions and several are (were) against VAR, there are surely some. Please do stop one or the other, don't be hypocrites.

I like the idea of VAR, but i don't like it in it's current state. I don't like the power being in the refs hands when it comes to VAR. Using it in the Confederations Cup was a complete failure. Even with VAR, the refs were still making mistakes. Mistaking identity even after using VAR, sending a player off wrongly when using VAR, refusing to use VAR when a penalty should have been given. There's a thread on here about the Confederations Cup where i pretty much went over every decision and there was a lot of mistakes, all by the ref. All it did was put me off VAR a bit and made me think that the real problems were the refs after all.

I would like Football to copy Cricket's rules. In Cricket, if you feel the Umpire has made a wrong decision, the captain will ask for a review. It's nice and simple. In Football, i think each team should get 2 or 3 reviews and the captain or manager should make the decision to review or not. After the Confederations Cup, i don't trust the refs to make the correct decision.

yea the confederation cup experience was truly awful but at the same time it was the first time they tried it so of course it wouldnt be perfect but the referee didnt gave any signal or when the play stop we didnt know what was going on.

Im just really tired of seeing dives being awarded (or the opposite in Ronaldo s case) , personally i wouldnt mind the game being 2-3 minutes longer if we had the correct decision but i think thats the key here , the referee watching the replays must take the decisions fast.

i also dont understand the people that says its a part of the game thats why we love football so much and blah blah blah , we have the technology now and theres so much money invested in it that it would be stupid to say that referees makes mistakes and its like that . Every sport now has it , im not really familiar  with cricket but there version seems fair and i really enjoy the rugby version when we clearly hear the referee conversation and he actually explain what is going on why they took the decision .

It took Mourinho a fair amount of time to start using Mkhitaryan regularly last year and the fact that United were trying to get Willian over the summer suggest to me Mourinho doesn't fully trust Mkhitaryan and I certainly would have Willian ahead Mkhitaryan.

I wouldn't put any trust in that Willian rumour created by tabloids.  Mkhitaryan all the way for me - better skillset, decision making and end product.

From the horses mouth and Mkhitaryan didn't exactly show either a better skillset, decision making or end product in the Premier league last season, he showed it in 2 out of his 3 seasons at Dortmund but we are yet to see if he can consistently do it in the BPL.

Ronaldo one was not a dive, Suarez was and he deserved a card for that.

Referee once again helped Barcelona, and yet again they lose !!!

It can`t be more fun then that.

He's been great towards the end of last season and has started well. Took him some time to get used to the EPL but his incisive runs, crossing and end product in there to see.

Long time lurker, first-time poster. It hurts seeing Matic in a United shirt and him playing well for them, but I honestly don't think Emenalo, Marina, and the board are to blame for him leaving to a rival. They just seem like the easiest ones to point fingers at since its hard to point fingers at the owner after all he has done for the club. Roman is the one that allowed the move and it seems to be in the same vein as when Cech left, which is him saying "You've helped the club so you can go where ever you want."http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/21/nemanja-matics-50m-man-utd-move-sanctioned-roman-abramovich/

Whiles, it seems like a nice and humane thing to do I feel like it interferes with CFC operating as an ambitious club. None of our rivals would have sold Matic to us if he was on their team. And this makes me scared for the future especially since if a player like Hazard says he wants to leave, the club would make no effort to keep him because Roman might sanction the move because he was a good servant to the club. If he can be ruthless with managers I honestly think he needs to be a bit more ruthless with how we sell our players.

Welcome Frankie, I've liked your post yet will also put another perspective.

It might just be by treating players kindly in this way will encourage others to join us, as they believe we will treat them with respect if a bigger club comes in.

To give an example in the 90's, 36yr old Hoddle was without a club after leaving Swindon and asked to train with Spurs, they refused and Ken Bates stepped in and offered Hoddle the chance to train. After we signed up Hoddle.

Hoddle signed Gullit, Gullit then signed Vialli in our most successful time since the 70's.

When I went to Spain in the 90s to learn language I was talking to the cab driver on a 90 minute trip (flight was late and I missed the last bus), I asked the driver about football and said I supported Chelsea.

"Chel....sea, Chel...sea, ah Gullit!"

"Yes Gullit plays for Chelsea," (or Si, Gullit juege Chelsea).

Gullit put Chelsea on the international map and it all seemed to stem from Bates offering a friendly gesture to Hoddle.

Oh well get ready for the dipper w**kfest :laugh2: they managed to beat Hoffenhiem 2-1 in the 1st leg of a CL qualifier so that probably means there gonna go all the way to the final now...:good2:

The refs in PL are far too scared to explain each and every decision. Imagine the Burnley game, how does he justify awarding Arfield a yellow and Cahill a red when the tackles are eerily similar.

I completely agree with Ronaldos ban for pushing the ref, but does anyone remember when Messi pushed a ref a couple of seasons ago? Didn't result in a ban for Messi then, it seems La Liga is just as inconsistent as the premier league. Seriously, it it to much to ask for some consistency?

I am wondering when are we going to see referees banned for a few games after the big errors they make. Craig Pawson is refereeing this weekend after his performance at ST last Saturday, and De Burgos Bengoetxea won't probably get any sanction after last Sunday Supercopa match (and Zidane will probably get a sanction after talking about the decision to ban Ronaldo for five matches).

Matuidi is joining Juventus just for 18m... what a great signing for this price!

Paulinho costs 40m, Sigurdson costs 45...

juventus always seem to buy for low prices. however, matuidi is sub par and at 30 it's a suprise juve are targeting him with their already aging side.
