Hopefully a win for us and a far better performance than we had at the FA Cup Final v them in late May.

That,isn't too much to ask.

hopefully not

Tibo

Rudiger Luiz GC

Azpi Kante Bakayoko Alonso

Willian Morata Cesc

Subs: Willy, Tomori, Andreas, Pedro, Batshuayi, Boga, Musonda

Pedro should not be starting this one. Its a glorified friendly and no need to risk him, in my opinion.

Azpi Kante Fabregas Alonso

Ideally wouldn't want Azpi at wing back but with Moses out its our most defensively sound option. Willian's work rate should also be able to help Cesc out in the middle.

Even If he had Maka to partner him, I would still not want Cesc in a 2 man mid against a good team.

Not sure how many other options we have. Bakayoko hasn't trained with the team yet so might struggle to be ready and the youth players aren't up to scratch. I'd like to think Willian would be able to drop deeper when needed to help cover for Cesc. Luckily Arsenal only play with 2 midfielders and Ramsey - Xhaka aren't a massive worry.

Could always bring SSB into midfield and have a back three of Dave Cahill Rudiger

I've been breaking my head for weeks over this abbreviation: WHO IS SSB ?

Feels like the season just ended, so it's amazing that the new season is almost under way already.

I think this is a significant psychological test for the playing squad.

Our Community Shield loss to Arsenal two years ago was one of the early signs of the downfall of our title defence, and with our lacklustre FA Cup performance back in late May I think the players will have a lot to prove here and will want to assert themselves for the season ahead.

Fabregas in a 2 in midfield is a worry, however I think if we start well and get a good hold of the game early, we should be ok. We're especially vulnerable with Fabregas when the opposition's midfield is going to dominate. Thankfully, Arsenal's midfield isn't of the same quality as Tottenham's who would/have overrun us in the middle of the park.

From both games against Inter and Bayern, it seemed as if we got hit on the break a lot and it looked very easy for them to do so. Trouble with our current midfield is that Kante is a ball winning midfielder: hes everywhere and doesn't sit in front of the defence like Makelele used to do or even Matic on occasion, and also with Fabregas, as we all know when he hasn't got the ball at his feet he's not the most useful. It's not hard to realise why we get countered so easily when all it takes is one ball through the midfield and they're through to the backline.

Hi All,

Fabregas is a brilliant player in the Pirlo mould, and I think he can have just as much of an impact for us as Pirlo did under Conte at Juve. What I find strange is that Conte always used to give Pirlo protection in midfield, which would usually be Pogba and Vidal. They'd have the legs and would allow Pirlo to weave his magic. Conte isn't giving Fab the same luxury though and keeps persisting with him in a 2 man midfield, when he plays him. I'd like to see Conte utilise Fab in the 'Pirlo' role more this season, being supported by Kante and Bakayoko. This would mean playing 2 up front with Hazard roaming behind.

What are your thoughts?

Cheers,

Danny - first time poster

It would make sense to go with a 3 man midfield, but the problem is that means not having any attacking players out wide, like we do with Hazard and Pedro at the moment, and relying solely on the wingbacks for width, which is quite a change we we've tended to have wide attackers for a long time, so it would take some getting used to. But I can see Conte trying a 5-3-1-1 sometimes, e.g.

Courtois

Alonso
Cahill
Luiz
Azpilicueta
Moses

Bakayoko
Fabregas
Kante

Hazard

Morata

A lot of confusion around this. I am sure Moses is available to play this game as it is considered by the FA as a 'friendly'. So Moses will be able to play this Sunday, however will be suspended against Burnley as far as I understand.

I find this game more than just a friendly game, losing or winning is not the matter, I just want us to improve from our last games and show different football. I think we should play with the lineup of players that were in the best form this pre-season.

--------------- Courtois ------------

--- Azpilicueta - David Luiz - Cahill ---

Tomori ----- Kante ---- Fabregas --- Alonso

---------- Willian ----------- Boga -----------

------------------- Batshuayi ----------------

Using Rudiger, Morata, Musonda, few minutes for Bakayoko. The score here doesn't really matter, we would like to watch some enjoyable football and seeing an improvement.
