Media trying to destabilise Chelsea?

Featured Replies

‘The mood around the place is dark, the atmosphere sombre. There is something sinister going on at Stamford Bridge. Something is very, very wrong around here. Never in the history of the Premier League has the after-glow of a title win worn off so quickly’ – The Sun’s Neil Ashton, August 14.

“I think there are cracks which are appearing. I think there’s a power struggle. I just wonder, with these 11 days left in the window, whether Conte is going to last at Chelsea. Things aren’t right at Chelsea, they’re absolutely not, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Conte isn’t here in two weeks” – Chris Sutton, August 19.

“They can almost finish Chelsea’s season. That would be two defeats on the bounce if Spurs can do it” – Martin Keown, August 19.

Traditionally, most national newspapers London offices had football writers/Journo's from the east of the city who had a bias against us and others from different parts of London.

Their opinions generated in to copy which sold well and that still continues long after fleet Street has gone.

It's not that long ago certain members or the press were happy to buy drinks for fans and goad them to cause trouble.

Never forget, all journalists have a duty to get a story no matter what.

Scum.

Now in my 7th decade I have witnessed the appalling dumbing down of the media especially since the dawn of social media which has in itself become a repository of deranged tripe that is treated as verbatim by its readership.

The 'traditional' media simply follow suit and play to the same audience.

Even well established news programs such as News at Ten have become a joke-fest and hence unwatchable.

Just have a listen to the drivel spouted out by presenters on Radio One during the daytime and that gets the tweeters and texters into a knicker wetting frenzy - today we had about an hours worth of Matt Edmonson (spelling?) in a self indulgent piece about a tweet he'd sent to 'Grimmi' about French Fancies - cue tweet frenzy etc.

And we wonder why football and our club have dross written about us.  Lies and vacuum filling claptrap are de-rigueur nowadays and as such appeal to the braying masses who delight in gossip and scandal.

I think the same about the media and feel it is getting worse, I recently stumbled across an article on the internet naming British Banking family members having very senior positions in a British tabloid and thought straight away surely that is a conflict of interest.

I check out alternative sources and one was getting concerned about the UK MOD taking business from UK military contractors like BAE and Rolls Royce and instead giving the work to the US. This would mean we had much less of an independent military. Now the point they made was the US F-35 jet was over budget and plagued by problems and the US about a decade ago bought up our Harrier jump jets.

Now I recall growing up recalling a huge parliamentary row about Westland helicopters yet nothing in the mainstream press about these recent happenings.

Also just some of the 70 year secrecy notices I have noticed in my time you chaps might recall more:

  • Dunblane killings
  • David Kelly death.

I partly blame social media, because the way people get attention these days is to say and do the most outrageous thing. It's not about right or wrong anymore, it's about getting retwitted or being watched.

Jeez I'm immune to a lot of this.  Don't do face blog, twatter, don't tweet, twat, don't give a rats arse what any 'celeb' what ever they've done to aquire this status in society has to say. Don't read the news, don't give a carp about politics, don't care about much any more. Not gonna bore you with the way I've been let down by the 'system ' but I do love my club Chelsea and the 50 yrs. I've been going there. So basically I don't give a sh it

For me it's a number of things.  1) British Media absolutely hate anyone doing well or being successful and in turn will do anything to disable it.  2) Social Media demands are so high for "News now" that they simply make up stories just to ensure they've got "news" out there.  This also leads to non professional "news outlets" also having a "mouth" which they can spurt any nonsensical dribble they like.  3) There's hardly any Ex-Chelsea players working continuously for major media outlets (They tend to be guest's more often than not), meaning that we're an easy target for ex players who fear "slagging off" or "talking down" their old clubs.

I get bored with much of the "reporting" on us, it's the same every season.

Great post, thank you. I'm 40 years your junior but agree with every word.

Opinions delivered as facts. I didn't know the pundits are Nostradamus and mindreaders

Like in Conte thread there's rumours on Tuchel replacing Conte, apparently he has fallen out with the board so is being sacked.

Why does the media keep trying? Are they desperate to see us fail or what?

Clickbait - pure and simple.  Click the bait, up pops an ad', buy a watch, car, plane etc and the host gets a cut.

Sacked after winning a league title and just after beating spurs away?

No f**king way - if anything Conté will walk, he's been known to when he doesn't get what he wants.

It would be unbelievably stupid to sack him and bring in some patsy from Germany with only a week to go in the transfer window.

Gutter press can f**k off.

As supporters worldwide similarly believe about their club

I wish you were right, I might have agreed with you, but these latest reports of Conte being sacked and replaced by Tuchel, more or less confirm that the press have it in for us. They are trying desperately hard to destabilise us.

This is their job, for crying out loud. Emenalo and Granovskaia are the ones that destabilise CFC. Not the media. They just smell blood.

Full stop.

Incredibly hard, and pathetic really.

After the Burnley Game "Conte has lost the dressing room, hence the shambolic display" (Absolutely no mention of our captain being sent off after 14 mins, which would disable any team)
After the Tottenham Game "Conte is at loggerheads with the board, and will be sacked" (Absolutely no mention of our win over Spuds, and even when mentioned it's more to do with Wembley)

Without sounding all "tin foil hatty", it's abundantly clear that the media have it in for us!

How do we, or the media know what Emenalo and Granovskaia are up to? They're scapegoats, it's not the journalists job to destabilise us, after a positive win on Sunday I fail to see how they've smelt blood.

Haha, I was listening to 5Live when Sutton said this, the in studio commentator (his name escapes me), was like "TWO WEEKS?" with complete and utter amazement at the ludicrousness of Sutton's drivel! Sutton tried to back up his statement, to which the response was "Two weeks? Erm..I'm not so sure, so we'll agree to disagree" which was the most professional way I ever heard someone call someones opinion moronic :laugh2:

They're just trying go sell newspapers or offer clickbait, so their ads get read.

Chris Sutton's punditry plumbs new depths I thought we'd never live to see.

Yeah, he's definitely one of the worst. He always sounds so angry when he talks. It's like everything around him is pissing him off.

The media rarely touch on Emenalo or Granny pants so they've hardly been scapegoated. By us fans they've quite rightly had the finger pointed at them, given that they and not the manager select the transfer ins and outs. Weight that up against the signings that saw the end of Jose and the willingness to loan out any potential depth we have, with no sign of replacements and we have the smoking gun.

As for the media they have a job of selling papers. Not printing stories based on truth or morality, literally just sh*t that sells. They see a club where stories are currently being printed about the manager is kicking off with the board, the club missing signings left right and centre, the main striker being fat, annoying and in hiding and then having 2 players sent off (one of which was its captain) while ending up 3-0 down to Burnley before the end of the first half in their first game of the season. Seems like plenty of blood in the water to me and if you think one game will change that then your sorely mistaken.

Why would the media want to do this other than to sell papers? Simple fact is old money hates new.
