The reality, is that he has admitted in no uncertain terms, that he made decisions determined & driven entirely by his anticipation of how he would be portrayed as a result, not based on what was correct within the laws of the game. Not once, not twice, but three times- at least. 

Referees are literally paid to do the complete opposite of what he did that night. 

It's an insane admission of guilt that makes him out to be an unprofessional cowardly idiot at best, and a symbol of modern day corruption in football at worst. 

I think it's the former, but why on earth he has decided to smugly pipe up about this, as if that night is one of his 'greatest hits' is beyond me. 

He should be remembered as nothing more than a disgrace to refereeing, and one who was stupid enough to later boast about knowingly making wrong decisions to ensure he didn't get a backlash as a result.

It's actually funny that he's obviously said all that thinking people would applaud him and be amazed by him, when the exact opposite is true. It shows just how deluded and arrogant he actually is.

So he admits he failed to send off 3 Spurs players who should have been sent packing, and then follows up with this gem :

'But I don't regret what I did in that match. I thoroughly enjoyed the match. I came off the pitch knowing that I hadn't influenced the result, and that was the most important thing.'

The man is as stupid as he is cowardly.   What then, Clatty-boy, would influence a result if not keeping a team at 11 mean instead of 8? 

Gob smacking idiocy and if anyone finds a petition looking for him to be banned by FIFA, charged by a court for match fixing (it's illegal, no?), or for some resolution with the FA/PGMOL etc please let me know.  As CFC fans I think we'd be very remiss to let this just slink away into the media as it appears to be doing.  Had this happened to certain other clubs Im sure right now it's be a topic in the Parliament or what not.

Dermot Gallagher is live on sky sports talking about this right now. Saying a lot of what’s said here, he should of just followers the rules, the players were out of control because he let them etc.

Not sure how he has not influenced the result, clearly if he sent off the deserving players we would have most likely got all 3 points rather than a draw?

My post was pretty clear, you're neglecting the fact that Clattenburg did it for a reason. I'm not saying Clattenburg wasn't selfish or very unprofessional, I made it pretty clear what I think of Clattenburg in my second post on this thread. The man is justifying his decision and doesn't understand what he has done wrong, so no I can't respect him, also he was a sh*t referee. 

But what he's said is bound to be on the mind of every referee who officiates big Premier League matches, they can't withstand the repercussions from top managers and the media should they do something wrong. I'm not sure how that is so hard to understand, it's pretty obvious and everyone in this thread knows it. 

So as for your point, video technology would completely contradict the referee's decision, the referee can't simply say the ball didn't go past the line when the video technology proves otherwise. So yes you could pretty much say it would solve issues like Clattenburg's blunder at the "battle of the bridge". 

It's actually quite funny.

Clattenburg is actually stupid enough to tell the truth. It just shows that the ref (even the so say best ref in the world at the time - CL finals as such) was unable to do his job properly, and let his own agenda decide how he would officiate the game.

Some of our players could have been seriously hurt - or on another day they might have taken some back and them some on Spurs having seen that the ref was turning a blind eye to everything.

It's genuinely shocking and casts into serious doubt some of the reffing we've seen over the years.

 

Needs looking at in detail to be honest.

I was pleased to see Dermot Gallagher deliver a pretty damning verdict of it on Sky Sports News, showing that even fellow proffesionals think he's lost the plot. 

As Gallagher said, it's the fact that he has tried to glorify his role in it which really is baffling. 

It's almost like his comments were intended only for his audiance in Saudi (where they probably lap up anything he says given his European 'pedigree') and he didn't realise it would get back to Europe. 

 

Attention seeking hole who couldn't make it as a player, but trying his best to earn some as a referee. Maybe he could kindly explain what he did the other year when he sent Torres off for diving, and allowed a clear offside goal by United?

Exactly I was at that game, and his reffing was a travesty. If anything Evans should have been hounded, he knew he caught Torres, but Torres got a second booking for diving. Then little pea scored a clearly offside goal and nearly caused a riot with his celebrations.

 

As for the Spurs game, Clattenburg should be made to reimburse the fine we got for "failure to control our players". The failure was all on Twattenburgs part.

Spuds were a disgrace and so was Clutterbuck (w**ker) This and the infamous Barca game were the most corrupt refereeing i have ever witnessed.Sometimes football stinks.

Yeah I remember that game against United back in October 2012 as well, thought at the time what an arrogant so and so Clattenburg was with shockingly one-sided decisions as ref that night, took a dislike to him then, so was not the biggest surprise to see him again distort a game with his poor decisions (or lack of decisions) in the game against Spurs in May 2016. Glad he is off in Saudi Arabia now, and won't be able to ref our games again.
