December 13, 20178 yr I might start a flame war here but in Norway's Chelsea forum we had this discussion and thought it would be interesting to hear people's opinion about the subject. I say nothing about my own opinion for now.
December 13, 20178 yr Author Have you ever placed a bet against Chelsea or is that something you would never do It does not even need to be a bet. Imagine a competition over a season where U just did what you thought where realistic to win it.
December 14, 20178 yr Author I know it might be easy to come forward if you never bet against Chelsea. This discussion started as one in the Norwegian Chelsea forum put a question to and did not believe that some guessed results against their own team before the match. Again this is just a matter of being realistic and not about money or does it dig deeper? Who is gonna believe in your team if the fans of it doesn't? Some said if they put a bet and if Chelsea won it did not matter about the money lost and if they won the loss did not feel as bad. Edited December 14, 20178 yr by Nikos
December 14, 20178 yr I don't gamble at all but I'd feel a bit sleezy, in the back of your mind being somewhat happy for a loss so you can win money as I suspect you'd have made quite a good return on say, the Palace result. Eventually you could find out how much money it would take to hope for a loss lol
December 14, 20178 yr I'm not sure how i feel about it. Every time i bet on a team to win, they lose, so by placing money against Chelsea i'd actually be ensuring we win thank me later gents
December 14, 20178 yr I bet a lot on football, mostly 'in play' now and have had some good returns. I like the in play betting as you can read the game and bet throughout the game. I never directly bet against Chelsea but bet around them, if you know what i mean.
December 14, 20178 yr I mean, occasionally I will have a player or 2 in my Fanduel lineup that is from the squad playing against Chelsea, but that's usually the keeper, as I'm expecting a lot of saves and a few goals against :)
December 14, 20178 yr I have done a few times, don't see a problem with it. If we win, I'm happy. If we lose, at least I have some mild financial compensation to make up for it.

I never tought about it like that but kinda makes sense :) I guess it is no real good or true answer to this topic. I learned long time ago to never bet against your own team and never did. I know now that it does not have to mean I'm a better or more faithful supporter. In some cases if could, but in general not. Edited December 14, 20178 yr by Nikos
December 14, 20178 yr All I know is, the rare occasions when I've bet on us to win, we've f**ked it up.
December 14, 20178 yr I never bet, but don't see why betting against your own team should be a problem. Betting and hoping your team loses does not affect the real result in any way whatsoever, and if they do lose, the money won would make up for your sorrow for the team's loss. If you lose the bet, you wouldn't feel so bad either because your team won. So I would say it's a win win
December 14, 20178 yr Done it loads of times. As @Zeta says, it's a win-win situation. Haven't done it lately, though. The league is too hard to predict these days...

I always believe in Chelsea no matter what. I can not be realistic in that sense. It is also against my principles.

Some high moral takers would sure come out with the name calling, but seriously don't see the problem with it. As fans you always hope your team wins, but in betting you have to be realistic, trust your gut/instinct. Moreover as a fan, you have the most insight into your team which helps. I won a heck lot of money when we beat Bayern because after watching the games against Valencia, Napoli, Barca, it was almost sure we would lift the cup no matter what. Similarly, against spurs this year, I bet on us after watching conte's presser. All throughout the pre-season and even before the Burnley game, conte kept complaining about the squad. But the spurs presser was different, for once he looked like the previous year's conte. Similarly before the Roma away game, I bet against us. I honestly don't see a problem. The number of people on here who feel the same way should be an indication that it is quite normal. If someone feels it's not so, it's fine, it's your opinion, but it should hardly be a metric for defininig your love for the club or if a person is a "w**ker" or not.

December 15, 20178 yr Remembering very well what happened last time we met Barca AND had a norwegian referee, I would certainly bet against ourselves if a norwegian is appointed this time too. With another idiot like Mr Overboe refereeing we just can`t win, and after all I do not mind free money.
December 15, 20178 yr Author Yes that f...er we all hate that ref.. Back to topic it is good that we at least kind of understand and respect eachothers opinions. That was not always to case in the Norwegian Chelsea forum. When someone question the loyalty and respect for the club it can dig deep into our feelings. I would say in general we just have a different thinking about this topic. Edited December 15, 20178 yr by Nikos

December 15, 20178 yr Never have, never will, even when it's a match I thought we'd probably lose. I've lost money but I've made money. It's football.
December 15, 20178 yr I bet that there wouldn't be more than one goal in the West Ham match. It won me a few quid but not in the way I was expecting. I rarely bet on football but when I do it tends to be on things like first team to score, first goal scorer, etc., rather than win or lose. I don't object to others betting against Chelsea but I wouldn't feel very proud of myself if I did it.
