Dzeko the Gecko

Or we arent prepared to give a 32 year old a 3 and a half year contract. We'd be stupid to do that

That depends on what your options are. Are there younger and better strikers than Dzeko out there? Yes. Are there many? Not really. Are any of them available? Some are, if you're willing to massively overpay for their transfer, offer huge wages, bonuses and scandalous agent fees. When have Chelsea ever done anything like it? Here's your answer.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. Yes, Dzeko's almost 32 and by his last year of the proposed contract he may be of no use to us. But if he gives us a solid striker option upfront for the next couple of years, I'd say this is a great deal, given our financial situation and the reality of the current transfer market.

We should ban these mugs from sky sports from here. They are one of the worst sources these days, absolutely shocking journalism from their part.

Hilarious that you use Bayern as an example when they do the exact opposite of what you are trying to argue.

It wouldn't be so bad mixing players in their 30's with the younger players in the 1st team. I didn't highlight your entire post because it had nothing to do with what you assume I'm trying to argue.

Alot of fans usually tend to let a players age cloud their judgement undermining their performance and what they can actually bring to the table. Right ?? I used Bayern as an example for those reasons.

At that price would he likely become a waist of Romans money?

£26 mil isn't what it was even a few years ago, sure it's still a lot of money but given how much players are moving for these days then it's not quite so bad.

Carlton Cole on a free ......

We'd have to buy him from the Indonisian club he plays for. Reckon Marina's standard £35m should do the trick.

I wonder if the club are planning on fudging the ffp cost of dzeko but putting his transfer down as a free, and amortization the combined €50m transfer fee over Emerson's longer contract? Maybe explain why that one seems to be held up by this deal.

True but really is it worth it to us? I like dzeko and all he is a good but not great player but what we are talking about is a long contract on high wages for a player almost 32. There is little immidate benefit to this season, especially if things go wrong tomorrow then he could only play league games, with the league title already out of our reach.

He is hardly bashing in the door to join us either so sounds like he would only join us for big money otherwise he would rather stay in Rome. Do we really want another player who would only want to sign for us for big money?

You sound like an Arsenal fan. I would say it different way - 3 years of decent performances and probably some trophies in the sack. In 3 or even 2 years - thank you for your services, good bye. This is how the things are getting done. Stop this dreaming, no one is willing to give time players. Hazard came extremely talanted but he was also integrated in the team immediately. Same for Neymar, Dibala, Sane and so forth.

All that matters is quality. In this particular moment, Dzeko is at higher level than Mitchy and Morata.

Not sure how that makes me sound like an Arsenal supporter. Weird dig.

There's a pretty big chance Contes going to walk at the end of the season and what if the next guy doesnt need an ageing dinosaur type CF?

It seems a pretty short sighted move to me. But hey that seems to ge our MO at the moment.

That does make sense, the only reason we are in for Dzeko is because he is the best realistic target of what Conte is demanding, but we do have to back him now as he is manager now, we can't just write off the rest of this season.

Worst case scenario is yes Conte gets sacked and the next manager does not fancy him and he will end up an unhappy unsellable player.

But I think he will have an impact here and now and 1 or 2 seasons later transition into a dependable second or third choice striker for us.

Something isnt quite sitting right with me and the reports that we wont give Dzeko a deal until 2021 and will go to 2019 or 2020 whatever.  Clubs do not pay best part of £30m for 18months of service. (unless said player flops and is sold on during a long term deal)

I know we have this over 30's policy... but in this instance; i think the price of the deal has to be taken into account.  It does not make sense to spend £26-30m and he signs a 1 and a half year deal.  If we are prepared to pay that sum, we will be prepared to give him 3 yrs.  Surely

I feel like we’re in a little bit of a “beggars can’t be choosers” scenario here. He does hold all the cards for sure.

I mean we are but why, Bats was brilliant in the French league, which for me is the league we have most success buying from, not just us PL clubs in general, he can come on and grab a goal, why can't he start and provide some relief. It's not the coach we have this issue always, strikers don't seem to do well with us, unless they are beasts like Drogs and Diego, which bwt is why I was so against Diego going, in on teh pitch football terms, politics aside, we need to see why we keep having striker trouble...

Dzeko's potential move to Chelsea reportedly has broken down. It's all over folks. Batman is here to stay lol.

Having watched his last 3 or 4 games if we bow to Contes pressure to get this done and give him multiple years we are crazy.

Would rather keep Michy for the rest of the year.

form is temporary....

He is bound to be performing below par given he has no idea wtf is going on with his career right now
