Next Chelsea Manager

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

I don’t know if I want another season with Conte.

We could be in for another sh*t season with him if our signings don’t work out. You can’t hold it against Chelsea board for signing Morata and Bakayoko, these two were the most highly rated players in Europe and yet they didn’t really work out.

I think Conte will moan again even if we have a fantastic window. There’s no guarantee the signings will work. Look at Sanchez at United.

We may perhaps look at someone younger without a proven record to take the project forward. I'd add Segio Conceicao from Porto to the list. Apart from the loss to Liverpool in the CL. He is having a top year.

I wouldnt feel confident hiring a "potential" from a foreign league. At least a potential like Eddie Howe or Wagner has managed in the premier league.

Well that's the decision really. For me I'd prefer someone who has had success but can adapt to England quickly.

Hence my preference for someone who plays solid and physical football like Simeone or Allegri over a Sarri or Enrique.

Conceicao is interesting. His Porto team play 4-4-2 with a strong press and overlapping fullbacks. But 4-3-3 in the big games. Ferguson style football. They got shown up by Liverpool with a few key injuries but he is probably going to win the Portuguese league for the first time in three years after selling Neves and Andre Silva and buying no one.

Not saying he should be the next manager but he's worth keeping in mind. Was the preferred candidate of PSG's technical director for their job.

You would rather be bored to tears by Simeones dogsh*t Burnley style football because you think only sh*t defensive football works in the Premier League? If the Premier league really can only have sh*t football then why are we even watching it?

Simeone is a great manager but he is like Mourinho on steroids. Even more defensive and boring. I'm not interested in watching it weekly.

For me style of play is only one aspect and not as important.

Has the manager won trophies?
Do they promote young players
Are they tactically flexible?
Are they willing to change their approach in matches?
Can their idea of football work without changing our whole squad?
Can their idea of football adapt to England?

On the basis of all of those things I would prefer Simeone or Allegri than Sarri or Enrique.

I also think your comments do a disservice to Sean Dyche and Simeone. This notion having a solid defensive setup means you're boring to watch is a bit tired in my view. Not sure you'd find many Atleti or Burnley fans who agree.

Allegri and Simeone are very different. Allegri is much more attacking then Simeone whose side is about as defensive as you get. On your basis Enrique should be chosen ahead of them all.

You are boring if you sit back and defend 1 goal leads scored from set pieces all game. That's Atletico's go to tactic and it becomes dreadful to watch every week. Their fans like it because they over perform. It's fine for a smaller club to adopt defensive styles as expectations are lower thus higher league positions mitigate the need to be entertained more. Chelsea have too high expectations for defensive football to be accepted by the fans because a league title at this point is not considered an over achievement.

Also, adaptability to the league is not a point against Sarri/Enrique. Sarri managed to make his football work in the most defensive country in the world. Guardiola and Klopp are taking offensive football and seeing success here. Even Pocchettino at Spurs has managed to push them into the top four using attacking football. It's weird that fans think you have to sacrifice style for success.

Some rumour updates. If true, sounds like the club are trying to get things organised and sorted.

Luis Enrique will make a decision over his future in the next few days and is closer to joining Chelsea ahead of Arsenal (Sport)

Chelsea have already met with Luis Enrique to weigh up the pros and cons of him joining. It's obvious that Chelsea need to remodel their squad and it seems that the coach will have the necessary resources to be able to compete with the best teams in Europe. (via @sport) #CFC #AFC

If Enrique comes it will mean a lot of changes. All will have to be comfortable in possession of the ball and brave to accept the ball in tight areas. Just think if we had done that in the summer last year we wouldn’t be talking about a new manager now.

He does not want to talk about his future, his contract and the 8 million clause to be exercised to take him away from Naples . But Maurizio Sarri continues to please many European clubs and the rumors about his stay or not on the blue bench continue to circulate.

Ciro Venerato , journalist and market expert of Rai Sport during the transmission "CalcioeMercato" has taken stock of the situation by unveiling a very interesting news: "A few days ago the agent of Sarri was seen in London and I do not think he went there to go shopping. The rumors about Chelsea are always much more important, the Blues also point to Luis Enrique, but with the Spaniard there are difficulties in the negotiation.Sarri is a very good alternative, especially if it were to win the Scudetto with Napoli " .

According to Tuttosport, Sarri's agent met with Chelsea executives in London and Roman is ready to offer Sarri €5m/year as well as pay his buyout clause. Chelsea are also trying to sign Hysaj (more likely) and Koulibaly as some sort of sweetener to the deal.

I must say if we were to choose a new manager I would definitely prefer Sarri to Enrique as Enrique totally flopped in Italy and he has big demands according to reports and that doesn't work out so well with us at the moment, look at Conte.

Where as Sarri' s Napoli play outstanding football with no real superstars. Higuain left for Juve the only real superstar they had. He took Hysaj from his old club Empoli for only 5 million euros and turned him one of the best right backs around not only defensively but he is almost like a playmaker with his passes/crosses from deep.

The only negative point I can think is that Napoli play direct quick football which I love but they have the players for it a bit like when Chelsea had robben and duff (i would take them over any other wingers atm when they where at their peak, beautiful to watch) where as now we have William and Hazard which are not that direct and have a different style.

Also, he hardly rotates his team unless he has to due to injury and not sure how he will integrate our talented youth.

However, I would still prefer we kept Conte and backed him up with one or two quality signings as he has shown he is a winner, passionate and I have no doubt ampadu and odoi will get more chances next season and probably loftus cheek too if he can stay fit.

Conte would have to move away from this 3-5-2 formation first. Hypothetically if he was to stay, he would want more defensive reinforcements when the real problem is further upfield if we go 4-3-3. Personally prefer a new face who plays quick attacking football.

I think Sarri might be the next one.

I suspect rightly or wrongly Van Ginkel will come back and we will splash the cash on a defensive midfielder to complement Kante.

His instructions will likely be to get us back into the top four and keep us there a la Wenger at Arsenal a few years back.

Conte won't play Odoi or Ampadu and he does not like Loftus-Cheek. His refusal to even try to integrate youth players is appalling.

Also, Sarri's teams don't play direct as such, they play one touch pass and move style of football. His players don't have to make long runs but short bursts of sprints as they interchange with each other. Basically how Hazard constantly tries to play at Chelsea but with much greater purpose and organisation.

it seems that if napoli win the scudetto the desire from roman to bring sarri to the club will be higher than it already is. i thought them winning the league could hamper our chances, but if it means roman will give him what he wants to bring him here, then i'm all for it. i am intrigued to see how his "vertical tika taka" can work in the premier league, seeing how pep's "tika taka" style has worked so effectively. also, sarri would be doing it with a higher quality of player.

I read that the club are not interested in sarri, because of his recent comments about a woman which were of a sexist manner.

?

Ed001's Note - I don't believe there is any interest in Sarri because of his issues. He has made a number of comments of a racist and sexist nature that would not be tolerated. I should have worded that better, I know he was ruled out and I believe that those issues are why. I hope that makes more sense. Apologies I am very tired and struggling a bit to think clearly.

Who is this guy? Is he one of these people that claim to be "ITK" Because from my experience 99 percent of people who claim to be "ITK" don't actually have a clue

Also I doubt the fact that Sarri being slightly controversial is going to have much bearing on if we appoint him or not, from what I've read the most controversial thing he has said is calling Mancini a "Faggot"

We employed Mourinho on two different occasions and he is one of the most controversial managers in the world

There's a rumour about Mauricio Pochettino which i think is very unlikely but would definitely be my choice

Barring that, I think Simeone would best fit us

Apparently he said to a female reporter "You're a woman, you're beautiful, so i won't tell you to go F*** yourself".  He has had to come out and apologise for it.
