Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

Featured Replies

Poor mistake by him in not seeing he had been left alone with United having the 2 speedsters going at him. Should have cleared. Poor on the back 3 leaving him isolated.

It was an easy ball to control and the two runners weren’t that near, about 3-4 meters away. He miscontrolled the ball by a meter giving their runners an advantage. And he struggled most of the game. He’s a good player, just not world class as some make him. And against opponents that press with intelligence, he can easily make costly mistakes.

That was a schoolboy error by Jorginho but it was made worse by everyone making schoolboy errors of leaving one guy at the back.

I think that error that led to the goal is going to mask the real issue here. It's somehow expected that the opposition won't have a single chance throughout the whole game.

This reminded me of Lampard, opposition has 2 shots on target while we have 3 times more and we still can't outscore them, also it reminded me of Kante last season when he was also left like that as the last man to recover the ball, he gave it to a Man City player and they scored from the counter.

Jorginho made good interceptions and good passes throughout the match, he lost the ball in the first half twice and twice in the second, one of those 4 mistakes led to the goal but it could have been anyone or anything really, even Mendy gifted them another goal, they just didn't take it.

So now instead of talking about our terrible finishing, Tuchel will think that there is no issue with our attack and that we simply must avoid individual errors and problem solved.

Wrong player to be the last man. Need someone with pace, is why Kante is often the one there or Kova is.

Only mistake TT made was placing him there. Should be Reece.

I think maybe a reason why he was alone there is due to RLC's height for the corner, Kovacic stays back but RLC can be a threat and he should have scored from 1 corner later on.

Even so, Jorginho was there first and positioned well, it was his first touch that failed him, not any lack of pace.

It was however if Reece makes that same poor touch he has both the pace and strength to shut down Sancho and that goal never happened.

We usually leave one player covering the corners, sometimes it’s Chilly or Kante (who slipped against Arsenal btw), but today wasn’t about leaving one player, he had all the time and advantage to get the ball to the ground and he miscontrolled it and past it to their runner. His mistake led to their goal, simple as.

Fair point. We do so to try and have as many bodies around to create a goal. So if the one back makes a really poor error we are likely letting in a goal.

Not sure about that, Sancho is already running so the only option is to foul and that's a potential red card...

Reece is a big lad, don't think Sancho gets around him. If he does Reece catches him, so he would need to play in Rashford quickly.

Unless he can stop Sancho from getting to the ball first I don't think he can outrun Sancho that is already running, that's a great disadvantage there since he would need to turn and start from 0, I mean it could happen since it's James but he would need huge effort for that. He has real acceleration unlike Jorginho so he could tackle or keep the ball before Sancho gets there after that first touch, but that's a big if. It's all theory...

Yeah it is. I think only Toni or Reece has the pace and power they could do it. Maybe Trev.

Edou is the best keeper in the world this season and his mistake was just as bad if not worse.

Sh.it happens.

He did get really lucky with that for sure. Almost like with these mistakes and our awful finishing we were trying to give United a boost.

To look at it positively he showed massive bottle. Coming off big penalty misses for Italy and then the awful error leading to the Sancho goal he still cooly slotted home that penalty.

He never hides, big player mentality.

Could be wrong, but usually Kante is in that last defender position, or at least a defender, putting Jorginho there was just asking for trouble, even he headed the ball it would be a weak one for the attackers to collect. We do have the tendency to over commit numbers in corners, and yesterday the quality of the delivery has been very poor.

TT blamed the ball being so high and the lights blinding Jorgi so he could not see the ball properly.

I agree with you though wrong choice of player to leave back. As I said earlier in the thread I would have it be James, especially when you have Ziyech and Alonso on the pitch to deliver set pieces.

Finally someone's figured it all out. So from now on, no more individual mistakes. We can rest easy now.

This^ yes we need to cut out the individual mistakes but I agree the lack of cutting edge in the final third is hindering us, TT has shown he does have some form of meritocracy so I would like to see us go back to the tried and true which are the players that actually put the ball in the back of the net consistently the fact there isn't many of those players in our squad from a fwd perspective remains an issue. False 9 imo is the best weapon we have, Lukaku remains our best finisher yet we have failed to utilise him properly.

Good luck tonight @Gol15 hope you bring home the big one.

Would be well deserved. Been superb.

Would be a crime if mendy does not the keeper award, and the golden ball has to go to Lewa, Kante or Jorgi. Of it goes to Messi is a joke and token award cause the argies did not bottle a second rate competition  for a change.

I think Messi is winning it. Which means I'll have to wait till Billy Gilmour wins it for Chelsea in some years...

Will be a disgrace if he does. Taking off the Chelsea bias both Salah and Lewa were far better than him.
