Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

Featured Replies

Got give him a lot of credit, superb Penalties under pressure, did a lot of the dirty work to cover the defence, and carrying an injury doing them all. He's putting his boot through the PK instead of just dinking it, made it that much harder for the GK to get a hand on it. We are a much poorer team without him, it's beyond debate.

You know that guy that you walk up to and ask about where can you find the manager and then he tells you that he's the manager? That's Jorginho.

And to think some wanted him off penalties 😂 9 from 9 this season

Strong rumours that the San Francisco 49ers want to bring him in as their kicker for next season.

But Jorginho has said he wants to start as a defensive tight end.

Nah he will play qb with 90% completion rate but wil average 1 yard per complerion

No denying his class, but does he slow us down too much?

I think it’s a lot easier to play quickly when you’re not playing against a team that plays 11 men behind the ball like we usually are 😄. I definitely think there are games where a Kovacic and Kante midfield is better suited but there will also be a lot of games where we need to control the midfield where we need Jorginho to play

I think some are getting a bit carried away. Kante and Kovacic were very good today, but at the same time, we gave Liverpool a ton of chances, more than usual. If there is one area that Jorginho's game has improved the most, it is his defensive positioning. I also don't really think Jorginho slows us down too much, that is more of a team problem than a Jorginho problem. It's not Jorginho's fault that the attackers approach the penalty area and decide to take the safe option and pass backwards, that is on them. Also, before Kovacic and Kante got injured, we were creating and scoring a lot of chances, playing at a good tempo and not conceding goals. We shouldn't forget that earlier in the season with Jorginho, we dominated Liverpool away from home before James got sent off.

He's getting on now. At some point it may happen that Jorginho is out for a month or two. Be interesting to see how we would fare without him for a prolonged period.

I believe we'd be OK.

Need to find another penalty kicker though.

We do seem to need to put down a player in order to praise other players don't we?

For me each of Kante, Jorgi and Kova are top top class at what they do when they are fit and at it. You can make an amazing midfield combo out of any 2 of the 3 or you could play all 3 together. We have never done that for a prolonged period. If they could all be fit to have Kova and Kante bomb on and win the ball back high up while Jorgi backs them up it could be a thing of beauty. Would just need the front 2 to make it work, in an ideal world a Zola and a Drogba.

Anyways I am grateful all 3 are our players and we are lucky to have them.

It is hard to defend Jorgi when his fans keep defending him like he is a unicorn.

Jorginho will always slow you down. That is what he is very2 good at and that is not a bad thing especially under Tuchel.

Jorginho is very2 good at intercepting the ball and position himself. Nothing new here but under Tuchel he only need to defend small area of the pitch.

Jorginho one touch passing is fantastic but his passing in general lack power and he doesn't have the skill to manipulate the ball to create different angle. So Jorgi is a player who can only give what the defense give you and that is perfectllly fine.

So in some games where we are completely dominant, jorgi actually can be better than Kante. With 3 cb at the back, kante ball winning skill can be redundant in this kind of games you already winning midfield battle before the game even started. I much rather have a holder who is comfortable distributing the ball than kante.

Yes I agree, there is no need to spit on one of our players while praising another. All 3 have proven to be class players that changed our style in one way or another, what each of them brings to the team is a high level of game understanding and a certain special skill and when all of them are healthy it's rather difficult to choose who gets to start the game. Only that 1 season with Sarri all 3 of them played at the same time.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Kovacic produced a great performance, he had much time to rest and recover and to come back to perform on a very high level which shows that the quality is there but that other factors sometimes stop a player to show his full potential. Also during his absence Jorginho was playing non stop and at times through injury as well so at times he didn't look as stable as he could have been otherwise.

Both clearly give their all for the club and are decent members of the squad, when they don't play you never hear anything bad and Kante being the best out of the 3 is known as a very down to earth person that flies all over the pitch so at having Lukaku's situation in mind, I think that despite many have said that in the recent years we haven't made good signings, that this trio of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic have been shining brightly, without them our scouting would have looked pretty bad.

My question was more out of curiosity and not to put him down. It’s no coincidence teams he played in won so many trophies. Was just a thought.
Reality is we always need two of the three (Jorginho, Kante or Kova) depending on the opposition. Just not always sure the slower passing helps, particularly against a low block.

But he's not just a slow passer. Just check the situations yesterday when he was on. Solving a couple of pressing situations against us with simple but perfectly timed and weighed one touch passes out of the endangered area to e.g. our RWB. Yes, it's a sideway passing game quite often but creating space for others to run into with or without ball to a) secure our possession and solve dangerous situations centrally in front of our box while also b) initiate our own attack. I'd say he's the best of the three to do these things consistently so a very important part of the puzzle. That said, when he's not fit like right now or exhausted mentally and can't do these things 99/100 times like we have seen in some of the last games then he should rather be rested like yesterday.

IMO, Kanté and Kova is a pairing that I'd potentially would use when we play a very high line of defense with very agressive pressing while I loved the Kova / Jorgi pairing when we sat deep, absorbing oppo attacks and playing it out from very deep to set up runs of Timo or Havertz (or James or Chilly - you name it).

There was a situation 2nd half yesterday. Liverpool broke and it ended up with Salah 1 on 1 with Kante. No other defenders behind and covering. Kante came away with the ball. If it had been Jorginho in that same defensive scenario, 99 times out of a 100, Salah would do him and score.

Jorginho has two real qualities for me. Recycling the ball and penalties.
