Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

I don't think Jorginho did have a decent run through to January under Sarri though. We were grinding away before then and he wasn't playing as well as he was at the beginning of the season. By January, things got so bad for him that the fans started booing his selection in the team. Will he be as bad now? I hope not, he has been playing in England and football long enough now, he should be able to avoid these mid season slumps, but his games against United and West Ham haven't given me much confidence.

When your style of football is built around a certain player, that players form can't dip for prolonged periods, it will just kill any teams chance of success.

But the form has dipped regardless of whether he has been in the team or not. Thats why i dont think its fair for you to single him out as to a main reason why.

Its always the same with Jorginho, people dont want to criticize him in isolation, they like to make sweeping statements about his whole game, or in this case his whole chelsea career.

He hasnt even played badly in these 2 games, he has made 2 errors that lead to a goal, one of which couldve been prevented by mendy, and the game he didnt play in between, we were absolutely dreadful.

He's been far too slow to get the ball moving, and his passes are nowhere near as clean as they were only a few weeks ago. He's bobbling them to his team mates instead of his usual one or two touch passes that are cleanly hit towards a teammate. This is why he is making the mistakes he is making, it's because his touch and passing isn't at the level of what it is at his best. I'm also not singling him out, I'm just saying that when you have a system built around certain players, when their form drops, it's much more of a detriment to the team. They can't afford to lose their form because their influence on the team is so great, which is the same for our wing backs and why it's so noticeble without Chiwell right now. If that player suffers slumps in form, then that player isn't worth building a team around.

You literally came and posted in here to single him out. His passing has been fine, bar the one he underhit today, in general it has been okay. It isnt going to be as fluid in the midfield when RLC is replacing Kante and Kovacic, the little quick one twos, and the at times telepathic understanding those 3 have, is always going to be missed.

You mention Chilwell, which is a good point. Would you not put down the last 3 performances to missing Chilwell and Kante, and trying to adjust to a less dynamic setup, eater than it being Jorginho annual winter blues?

Thiago Silva made 2 mistakes today, which couldve lead to a goal, Mendy passed the ball to Fred, is it not more of a case of the whole defence and midfield having to adjust to not having its usual personnel? There has been an unusual amount of individual errors in the last 3 games.

The incident in the first half when Jorginho was simply out-muscled in the middle of the pitch, grabbed the ball and was booked, summed up his performance today perfectly.

Even Declan Rice acknowledged that that was a free kick just so that was an odd example.

Jorginho is an easy scapegoat. Doesn't look too fancy, hasn't outrun anyone in his entire career and may lose a physical duel or two. But he does make us tick and he's absolutely one of our most important players. Even if we lost today there was a massive difference in terms of controlling the match as we did for almost the games entirety. That's what he brings. He's our metronome and he's largely been excellent at that since Tuchel arrived 11 months ago.

Poor display. Very disappointing.

I agree. He was struggling with fitness just a few days back so it shouldn't be a surprise that he isn't at his best right now.

Mount for example had some time to rest and recover, now that he's playing again he's delivering, sadly Jorginho doesn't have that luxury he's needed at all times. If only Lampard was given Declan Rice last January, who knows how things would look now.

Lost his sharpness or edge that was there end of last season and through the Euros.  Reports of carrying an injury, and it shows.  Just no the standard we expect.  The mistakes are simply careless and very irritating.

If he needs rest give him rest or you sacrifice his season for the short term. If you have to play players out of place or call up academy boys do it.

I find it so short sighted and silly to play injured players.

It looks like his injury has been bothering him. He has been good this season but in west ham game especially after Bowen scored boy he was awful.

After bowen goal the game state changed completely,West Ham clearly were comfortable with the 2-2 result and sat deeper. We needed Jorginho to move the ball faster to destabilize defense but not only he failed to do it, he kept hitting underhit pass that slow down the offense plus he kept blocking passing angle for switch play. It was total nightmare.

If we had the other guys available, he wouldn't have played on Saturday. We were awful without him against Watford, despite not being 100% we played a lot better on Saturday as a team. Rest him mid week, hopefully he's ready for the weekend.

Shock another game Jorginho isn’t available for and we got overrun in midfield and the defenders looked terrible. Still baffles me a lot of people still don’t see his true value in this team.

Fabrizio Romano just told a story about why Man City and Napoli don't speak at all for years now.

Jorginho to Man City was a done deal, Napoli destroyed that verbal agreement because of Sarri coming here, because we both both in a package and since then Man City officials haven't been in any contact with Napoli at all, probably the worst relationship between two clubs.

Sarri wanted him, he wanted to stay with Sarri, Napoli wanted compensation for Sarri and we would not pay it directly, so added it to Jorgis fee.

He's got a great mentality.

Not phased by pressure, plays through pain for his team and is a leader on and off the pitch. Everyone should give him his dues for that as far as i'm concerned. The ability to be available is an underrated ability and he trumps Kovacic and especially Kante in that regard by a distance. And he is as such, a hugely important player for us.

The decision to take the second penalty to the opposite side and low shows that he knows what he's doing when he's taking those kicks.

Now we have our answer @Gol15. First time him and Rom on the pitch together and we get a pen. He is primary Lukaku the back up.

Really good captains display. We need to help him out though. Kova and Kante will never stay fit for a season again so we need more reliable backups than RLC and Barkley.
