Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

It's ironic because the "you only rate x player because he's a fancy name" is often trotted out but there's nothing that can convince me Rice would be a desirable target let alone the favourable one had he not been a Chelsea fan who has a bromance with a current fans favorite.

It's worth signing Rice just for the fact you'd have a full time job on your hands picking holes in him. Before he had even kicked a ball.

Would be funny if he came here and was actually good. You'd have a cardiac!

There was (rightly) outrage at the mere thought of signing Anthony Gordon at his rumoured price yet likely twice as much for someone totally unproven outside of sit back and counter football is largely being well received.

Under Potter we already had 600+ minutes without conceding and under Tuchel we had a similar crazy good defensive period as well.

So basmatiRice has nothing to offer, if he wasn't Irish turned English but Spanish or Portuguese playing for Valencia nobody would spend 3 seconds looking at him.

The irony of that bolded part is delicious.

Sad to say I won't be following your lead, if I'm wrong I'm wrong, it's not that deep. I don't think I will be though for reasons I've already stated (a McTominay clone who lacks the elite mentality). I may get it wrong like I did with Chilwell, or i may get it right like I did with the Covid restart, replacing Lampard for Tuchel, Lukaku, James, Kante's minutes needing careful managing, to name a few.

I certainly wouldn't double down if he say for example wins the UCL for us and follows it up by delivering the Euro's for England 40 something days later, all while being the only regular starter in both.

I'd have personally given it to Kovacic but Jorgi was brilliant tonight and got MOTM

I guess we have to file that alongside all the other coincidences that put him in a good light.

Had Kovacic stayed he gets it. RLC coming in made this happen

UEFA made him MOTM? Off course they did. After all, they don't get much wrong.

Huge stuff up, I mean surely Pulisic was man of the match for his 5 yard pass to Havertz to score a worldie from outside the box

Easy for Jorginho to play in that Man City team, all lanes open for passes all the time, no wonder Pep got mad when he didn't sign him. If Rodri was here he would also be seen as a sideways passer and just as a squad player by all that deem Jorginho as such.

Last season absolutely, jorgi would have been very good for City. This season, with Haaland no way.

I have never complained about Jorgi being sideway passer. Playing sideway pass is good and important.

600+ minutes is all down to Kepa. We're leaking chance after chance every single game with most teams just walking through our midfield. Same happened again last night several times.

You love falling back on the notion that Pep once wanted to sign Jorginho as the basis of him being the lord and saviour of Chelsea football club. Pep has even more recently come out and said that Rice is an exceptional player and that he admires him. Does the Pep treatment not work for Rice?

James? Kante? Lukaku? Covid? What were your stances here because i'm pretty sure a 5 year old could have told you Reece James was world class from day one and Kante needs his minutes managed.

Doesn't suit his agenda though.

The irony. Anyway like I said I hope I'll be wrong and unlike you, just and Co I won't double down if I am. However i don't think he's suited to a possesion based team and i don't think mentality wise he's suited to an elite club.

In 2019 it was considered in many football circles that Trent and Wan Bissaka were the top two young English RBs.

Kante I said it from 2019, when the thought of not picking him no questions asked when fit was blasphemy.

Covid I said the restart would be safe to do when nearly everyone on here was arguing for a void.

Lukaku I called an obvious stylistic mismatch with our football, pretty much same way I am with Rice.

Exactly! If, as some like to suggest, Italy won the Euros because of Jorginho, does it also mean they failed to even qualify for the World Cup because of Jorginho?

If we're going down that route, the guy you want him replaced with has never qualified for the UCL.

He got 98% pass accuracy last game and captained his team from the age of 21 while being one of England's best performers in the National team. Seems quite good with possession and mentality.

Pretty sure all Chelsea fans waxed lyrical about James.

Kante's injuries have been prevalent for years.

COVID was a myth, people wanted it voided to stop Liverpool winning the league.

Lukaku hasn't changed from his Everton days, people were just desperate for any striker.

So one game where Rice has a good possesion stats shows he's good in possesion but Jorginhos still a defensive liability despite breaking defensive records with two different sets of teammates?

Got it

As for mentality, I'm glad you brought England up because he made that ludicrous excuse about scoring goals in training to defend England not scoring an open play goal on 5 games. He also celebrated an equaliser against a non league side harder than Kai and Drogba did in the UCL final.

Also he'd have likely had a chance to prove me wrong by now if he didn't decide to sign a ludicrous new deal at West Ham that made it impossible to get him out for his entire early 20s (so basically he's had to watch his best mate become a European and World Champion instead of potentially being involved due to his own poor decision making).

Are you comparing qualiflying for ucl with West ham to Italy qualifying for wc? 😱😱😱

Rice chose to sign a long new deal there knowing how hard if not impossible it would then be to get out for the foreseeable.

Why shouldn't footballers be held responsible for poor decision making? I say the same when people make Harry Kane a victim of his trophyless career.

Okey never mind then, if our vice-captain doesn't fit in there... the logic is clear I mean Zouma didn't stay with us cause he's not as good and he's a star in West Ham.

BasmatiRice already lost half of the matches he played in, he's overcooked nobody is paying 100m for a 40m player anyway...

Its not an isolated game though. Rice consistently has better passing stats and chances created than Jorginho. More assists, xA, open play goals, passing accuracy, interceptions, blocks, clearances tackle win %, dribbles etc. (https://one-versus-one.com/en/compare-players/Jorginho-Frello-Filho-vs-Declan-Rice#:~:text=Frello Filho Jorginho has a pass completion rate of 29,for passes into the box.)

What do you want him to do, publically bash his attacking team mates for not scoring? Its incredibly common for captains and managers to protect their team mates in the public eye then lambast them behind the scenes. I'm sure it would have been great for morale for him to tell the world he thought Kane and Sterling were w**k. God forbid he celebrates a goal either.

Player signs contract, once again not a shock. He has to think about income for himself, what if he tears his ACL and isn't the same player after with only 6 months left on his deal? I'm sure he recognises that now and won't be signing any new extension.
