Soft drinks and food stupid prices at the Bridge. £3.30 for a bottle of coke 1.40 for a small mars etc.  I buy it in a super market and take it in. Although you have to play the stupid game of putting the bottle tops in your pockets before going through the turnstiles

I read that article, I don't believe it. It feels like the sun is pushing a headline out from very little

I imagine the club would kick up a massive fuss considering all three Spanish clubs were allowed to sign players. I don’t think it would be worth the hassle for FIFA to do it differently for us.

Going to be interesting, i understand it as the rules have been reset since the Spaniards broke them, so we have broken existing parameters?

I dont even know how it can be enforced considering the appeal as the risk for FIFA would be huge. Imagine if we were banned from signing players and we won the appeal in October....what compensation would we be due

Interesting article on finances I saw posted on Chelsea Reddit.

https://financialfootballnews.com/chelsea-fcs-2019-finances-sarri-ball-sorry-losses/

We absolutely need CL football. We will likely see a few sales this summer. The money the club have wasted on average player is insane.

We need smarter signings. Maybe our precarious financial situation is what led to the youth promotion and Lampard signing.

I may have the wrong end of the stick on FFP, but I thought the whole point of it was that over a rolling 3 year period, you can't lose more than 30 million Euros (£25.5 million or so).

So if last year we made a significant loss (and I'd take the club's official figures of £96.6M rather than what is posted in that article   https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2019/12/31/chelsea-fc-financial-results  ), then surely that has to be balanced out by a £71M profit in the other two years that are counted in the 3 year period ?

Net net, I just don't think that we are going to be spending the sort of money that most people think we can in the next transfer window ... and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see player sales exceed player expenditure.

This is why I think we may only strengthen certain positions because of the money, I think even the Spanish giants are now being careful.

I agree. I think we'll sign a left back, a striker and possibly a central defender, and that will be it. One of Alonso or Emerson will be sold to Italy, Giroud will leave as out of contract, and we'll have to sell one of the centre backs if we are going to be signing a new one.

Here's our official accounts (apologies for the huge link LOL) :

£60.4m of player trading profit is included in the loss for the year of £96.6M.

How can Man United spend 200m every summer when they don't play CL anymore? We should be able to spend 200m easy this summer, specially since a lot of players will be leaving.

Agree on the Left Back, think a forward player rather than an out and out striker (Tammy gets another season to impress). Think Alonso will stay for the formation change possibility so Emerson will likely leave. Think Giroud will stay as he is proven at this level just look at Higuaín or Falcao by contrast. The last I think is a goalkeeper unless Kepa is very good between now and May. So don't think we will get a new CB this season nor an out and out striker.

Would be good if we did get all these just don't think it will happen.

I think Willian will go and Pedro might stay another season as cover.

With all the injuries occurring recently and also under Conte it makes you realise you need decent squad players which is why I am happy to keep Barkley.

That last graphic is the most depressing.  How many of our top 10 transfers  turned out to be any good?  I pretty sure Danny Drinkwater isn't too far from a top 10 position as well.

Looking at this list there must be some truth to the notion that when we want to buy selling clubs inflate their prices. Best investment strategy is to develop youth and accompany this with some purchasing of experienced players. Our current model brought about through the transfer fan could develop into something quite testy.

This is interesting from Swiss Ramble. It analyses the funding from Roman over the last 5 years. It seems we've benefited  more from the funding than other clubs during that time.

How does that make any sense when it says City have barely had any financing? They should be easily top of the list

You do indeed mate. Last season I took my youngest to the Sheffield United game and went in the family section. About 30 Sheffield fans were just ahead of us singing and enjoying their day out in the smoke. Stewards completely bottled it, no checking of tickets etc. I rock up with my 12-year-old son and we are stopped, asked to present our tickets. I get it, a dad with his son is obviously high risk. Once we get through this layer we are then asked if we have soft drinks on us by another layer of security. I get it we look high risk, a dad and his son. Meanwhile, next to me I can see our stewards opening up to let the away fans in with as much convenience as possible. Once inside the ground my kid asks for a drink and call me tight but I begrudgedly buy him a rip off Pepsi or whatever. For the rest of the season if he ever came with me, I took in my own drinks, hid the lid in my pocket and smiled at our well-trained stewards.  Football clubs are that strange hybrid of profit-making company. They have a commitment to their local community and supporters but compete in the leisure industry. I get why for the club generating revenue is so important but just occasionally it would be nice to not feel we are being ripped off or that as match going fans, we don't represent an inconvenience to the club.

City make more in commercial revenue than any club bar united. Significantly more than us, arsenal, Liverpool etc.

They do it against the rules of course, all of these sponsorships they have are from friends of their owners.

We are funded through the front door rather than the back.

I don't know. To be fair, they've mostly kept a stable team for a few years. Meanwhile we've been changing our midfield and attack almost every season. You also have to think that us missing out of the CL for two seasons in those 5 years affected us financially, along with expensive and mediocre signings who don't play for us and we cannot sell hasn't helped our finances.
