Christian Pulisic - Official

Rumours have it the new owners want to secure long term deals for Mount, James and CP as their first priorities.

That will be like winning the UCL then signing Lukaku all over again.

Sigh...

My issues with Pulisic...

1) He holds the ball too long

2) He can't/doesn't dribble

3) Finishing has become rubbish

4) Doesnt strike me as a winner

and then....

5) Even when he manages to address 1-4 for those few games every season, he then gets injured and appears to be so fragile.

Simply cannot be relied upon to be a top quality and consistent EPL player.

I’d personally rather keep Pulisic than Werner, Ziyech and CHO. But that isn’t saying much because they’re all toss as well

Yeah that's exactly where I am.

Think we all knew deep down that Pulicic would never be as good as Hazard. But there was a period where he put in some good performaces, scored some cracking goals and folk were posting "he's gonna be better than Hazard!"

Alas, that seems a long time ago and he continues to frustrate. And there lies our main problem this season and it is a wonder how we did as well as we did, when Pulicic has been bang average but many of us would keep him ahead of CHO, Werner and Ziyech, who are even more average!

Not for me, Pulisic would be first out of the door if it was my decision for a few reasons.

1. Callum and Ziyech have more natural chemistry with the player we should be building this team around (James).

2. Both players form from the Autumn (in Callums case) and January/February (in Ziyechs case) is above any run Pulisic has had in the last two seasons.

3. Pulisic is the one attacker we could probably get a significant fee for as he seems to have adopted the Willian trait of convincing rival clubs he's a lot better than he actually is (rival supporters and even people I know who work in football don't believe me when I tell them how sh*t he's been for two years).

4. Werner even when struggling to tie his shoe laces can still be some use with his pressing and runs (as we saw in Porto), Pulisic is a ghost 90% of the time.

Oh Argo, I see you are still clinging on to that hope that CHO will come good!

I would love it if you are right. He is one of the best players I saw at our Academy and a really exciting prospect. But that's a while back now and I have seen nothing to suggest he is going to rediscover what he once had. Maybe it's the injury, maybe it's the lack of hunger, maybe like many youngsters, he's just failed to improve and step up. But I don't see what you see. Instead of that exciting young academy player who used to tear oponents a new one, I now see a player who just plays safe and within himself. We have too many of those in the squad and it is time to make way for players who cause opposition trouble constantly and can open them up and create. Not saying Pulicic is a whole lot better (nor Ziyech), it is just that he he still my pick of the (bad) bunch.

I really hope the new owners don't insist Pulisic has to be picked on a regular basis.

They won’t. The bigger issue is I personally think like the forward options he isn’t been applied well. Might sound a bit crazy but I reckon Tuchel has a glut of options in the forward role compared to other managers, which makes it a difficult balancing act.  7 players; Pep has 6, Klopp has a trusted 5, Arteta has 5, and Conte has 5.

I think there is a brilliant player inside that can be unlocked by the right manager, in the right system. It doesn’t help when the manager has you playing as a CF, RWB, LWB, AM, RF and then drops you after an average position in one of those positions that is less than ideal for the next 4 games. Next time he subs you on it’s to play in one of those less than ideal positions again.
Sounds like he will push for a deal, and I reckon this is best for both parties as he is one of our saleable assets. I feel he will kick on in a different environment where he plays as a LW.

If the new owners plan to see Chelsea on top of England and Europe Pulisic should definitely NOT be any part of those plans.

That is a very difficult dream to achieve and requires a ton of investment and smart investment at that. We don't have a squad or first 11 good enough to win the title.

Pulisic should not be a part of a team trying to be on top half of PL.

Nothing to do with him being an academy player, I wrote off Ruben's chances of being anything more than he is now when he was still a teenager.

If we look at this season alone he was our best attacker (bar the wingbacks if you class them as attackers) during our best spell of the season which included him absolutely tearing Juventus a new one and producing the assist of the season for Ziyech at Malmo amongst other things . Then after being (unfairly) sidelined he was majorly involved in all our goals at Villa Park and ran half the length of the pitch to set up Ziyech vs Spurs.

If he got the chances Pulisic and Werner have got (especially on the right in tandem with Reece) and still wasn't breaking through to another/the required level (or we found two players like Duff/Robben) then I'll be the first to say fair enough, but the reality is he simply hasn't been and he's still done better than them with what he's had this season.

Hello, First post here, wanted to talk to my fellow Chelsea fans during the summer as I won't see the people I usually go to the bridge with and it's bit of a negative one I'm afraid.

For me Pulisic should be the 1st player out the door this summer, he's as poor an attacking player as I've seen at the club since Roman bought it. He's been better for us than I think anyone who watched him at Dortmund would have expected (He'd already been benched by 2 younger more talented players when we signed him) but the fact remains if he had a different nationality he'd never have been considered a potential signing, He's massively out of his depth. He's played 7 seasons of top flight football and hasn't managed a single decent season in his career.

He's a really poor finisher and has been for 7 years, pathetically weak, Isn't creative,  can't cross, offers nothing outside the box, doesn't work hard, loses possession constantly, Isn't reliably fit, disappears completely most games, doesn't link up well with anyone at the club and no longer even seems to be able to go past people (Not that he's ever been a good dribbler) He's always been the head down and into blind alleys type. I genuinely don't know a single thing he does well.  He has a direct style of play which I like but I'm not sure if that can be seen as a positive given how abysmal his numbers are over his 7 year career.

It's tough to evaluate him because we didn't sign him based on his footballing ability and I don't know what impact he'd had commercially but if the new owners want to make it clear they see us as a sporting project Pulisic should be the first player out the door.

He's got 2 years on his contract and we don't want another player running their contract down,  He's not good enough, will never be good enough and because of his nationality and commercial value we could still get a decent fee for him.  I don't see any reason why we shouldn't sell him and get a much needed upgrade in.

Edit - There's some kind of myth I've heard and read where people think Pulisic is a good finisher or at least decent and I'm just not sure where it comes from given over his 7 year career he averages 4 league goals a season and has underperformed his XG in 6 of those seasons while missing multiple big big chances in important games.  He's the only one of our forwards who has never scored double figures in a league season at any point in his career.

With 2 years left on his deal, now is the time to sell him for a decent fee but aside from his Marketability I don’t see why any top side would sign him. There are links to Juventus, I suppose since their transfer policy is absolutely bonkers and a policy which saw Vlahovic signed, despite him being totally incompatible with them, there is a chance.

Would be ironic if he is sold as one of thr first acts of our American owners.

We should be getting players with 2 or 1 years left on their deals to either sign or sell them.

There's probably a good player hidden deep inside him, but that isn't going to come out at Chelsea. Juve, CSKA Moscow, one of the many dodgy clubs Dan Petrescu has managed, I don't care, just get rid.

Juventus would make sense as their transfer strategy is a total mess under Nedved and co, probably just looking at his market appeal, I mean despite Pulisic doing next to nothing here he sells the most Chelsea shirts (2nd behind Messi worldwide in 2020).

Pulisic has removed "Chelsea FC" from his Instagram bio - apparently anyway, according to some Chelsea YouTubers.....

Odd thing to do since we cannot sell or buy players.

That would make so many here so happy...but we would lose Tim.....
