Needs to improve. Nothing is else to say

If he doesn't improve, he'll be getting the dead wood label. At Chelsea, that usually means you serve out your contract and bugger off on a free. Should a buyer (preferably from another league) come along and offer a reasonable amount, I'd say sell him.

Maybe Rooney will have a nibble.

I see him as a good squad player but ideally not a regular starter unless he improves. However as others have pointed out his current competition is probably CHO and Werner, neither of whom have convinced. So unless we sign another first choice winger he probably still has a decent chance of getting regular starts this season. He may yet fulfil some of his potential here, but I feel as though he will probably move on to another club in the next year or 2.

Agreed -- this is what I have always thought of Puli. He has one, fairly elite, trick if he's put in the right position -- dribbling and agility with a poachers instinct around the 5 yard box.

Ideally, he would only play the last 20 to 30 minutes of a match as an inverted left-winger when he gets to run at tired legs. I think he could be highly productive in that role.

The issue is he is not really a system-fit. He had good run in Lamp's 4-3-3 but, has been average to below-average in Tuchel's  3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1.

So, if Chelsea can get a reasonable fee, I'd sell him. But, I don't think he's deadwood either. Just a niche player.

Good points. This system doesn't fit CP. Like to see him move somewhere that does, as most Americans do. Until then, will keep rooting for him when he sees his limited playing time.

His main competitor is sterling

Dude, you have problems with Americans? Or are you an asshole to everyone?

I love Americans, Y'all are awesome.  I've spent a lot of time in America and I like both the people and 15 out of the 16 cities I've visited.

If the Internet was full of Vocal Italians crying everytime Emerson didn't get a game, saying he needs to leave or pretending Emerson was a superstar they'd get the same thing.

I'm just saying if Pulisic left Chelsea today and it wasn't announced it would be at least October by the time the average supporter at the Bridge realised he'd gone.

He's been such a none entity for almost his entire time here the only mark he's made at either of his 2 clubs is the strange cult like level of patriotic hype he has off the field.

I bet the one you didn’t like was Hershey, Pennsylvania.

You hate players because twatter fans hype him up? That say's a lot about you.

Why are you so obsessed with twitter?

It's really cringe worthy seeing when certain old people demonise twitter.  Just sad tbh.

Like I've said I don't hate anyone, the difference between Pulisic and every other player at the club is that he was signed solely because fans (his own countrymen) hype him up.

If you even partially believe that then you're an even bigger idiot than I thought....

You're not a smart guy so I'll make the question really simple so even someone like yourself can understand it.

Do you think we'd have signed Pulisic for 58m if he had any other nationality?  Yes or No?

Bonus question - Can you recall a player who had flopped at his previous club and was benched by 2 more talented teenagers getting a big money transfer to a top club?

You're one of those strange people that criticise Tuchel for not getting the best out of our attackers but ignoring his post lockdown purple patch in unusual circumstances Pulisic has just had the best 2 seasons of his career under Tuchel.

Tuchel has improved Pulisic massively but the talent has to be there to perform at the top level and you can't polish a turd like Pulisic.

Yes, of course we would, his nationality had absolutely f**k all to do with it. Anyone who thinks otherwise is can idiot.

🤣

I genuinely can't believe you're that stupid.  Even given your constant drivel I really expected better.

The reason we signed Pulisic is the exact same reason we and many other clubs spent this pre season in America and just as a hint for you it wasn't to give ourselves the best opportunity to win football matches.

Edited by HazardousChoice

As ever so often the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The club didn't just splash out 58 million on a player because he is american. They also saw potential in him to be a great player. However I very much doubt that his nationality had nothing to do with us getting him and it probably also led to us being ready to pay more money than we otherwise would have for CP.

Pulisic will stay , he's American , plays for the national team.

Todd  wants to grow the American market and see Pulisic as the catalyst for that.

before I attract the  wrath and name calling of a certain poster, the above is from an article I read.

Could have some merit perhaps ?

So why don't we sign an Indian player, or a Japanese one, or a Chinese one etc...

The same reason our pre season tour is in America and not India, Japan or China etc

The American consumer is the most powerful in the world,  the sport is rapidly growing there, Americans are known to spend big money on supporting sports teams and the vast majority of Americans currently do not support a football team and have proven to be the most individualistic people on the planet when it comes to sports. It's very common to support a particular player rather than a club. All these factors were at the forefront of our minds when we signed Pulisic.

America has never had a top class footballer,  Clint Dempsey, and Tim Howard being the best.  The first genuine top class American footballer could be worth Billions commercially to the club that has him.  Think Michael Jordan, Tiger woods, Tom Brady style hype

We took the gamble that the most Hyped American young prospect would bring us commercial value.  Maybe it has I don't know his financial impact and it is certainly true it got more American eyes on us as a club

But as a player there's no suggestion anyone would have paid 58m or even 18m for what Pulisic shown at Dortmund, he clearly was nowhere near the level there and was already getting the "where did it all go wrong for Christian Pulisic" articles before we signed him.  There's really no argument that his nationality and off the field reasons aren't the primary reasons he's here

17 years old here. But yeah, we signed him because of his nationality. Sure.

Ah the old Youtube highlights.

No doubt scouts particularly like youtube highlights of 1 game a player played 3 years before we signed him when assessing if we should sign a player.

But that's Pulisic in a nutshell isn't it? He's been awful for 90% of his time on the pitch, has never had a good season but people will still point to purple patches or the odd game in which he performed as an example of his talent.

As someone else said a player that has 1 good game in 10 or 4/5 good games a season for 7 seasons in a row isn't a talented or inconsistent player he's just a sh*t player.

That's not the clip I meant to post actually. I recall seeing one where he was running rings around Real's defenders but I can't seem to find it now.

It's not like the guy who benched him at Dortmund is tearing things up at Man Utd now is he?

We've seen what he was capable of post-lockdown under Lampard. Yes I know that was a long time ago and shouldn't be used as an excuse to keep him at Chelsea for that alone, but how many players have you seen perform like that for us since Hazard?

We signed him due to his potential, not his nationality.
