A detailed statistical analysis of dozens of right-sided defenders led #Chelsea to withdraw from the Jules Kounde chase and turn to Wesley Fofana.

Looks like big Todd’s approach is starting to take shape.

Seen that reported a few times. Unlike Raphinha we were not snubbed by Kounde, we changed targets, even Sevillas DOF Monachi admitted that.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake have been conducting a review of every department of the club, a sporting director will NOT be the only hire within the coming days and weeks. (@TheAthleticUK) #CFC

Good, they need the support of the right people, with experience, helping them to run the ship. Think we need to have patience with them and givem them a few years to get us back to competing at the top.

Some interesting bits in an Atheltic article today:

Speaking anonymously as they were commenting on a private event (Todd’s dinner with PL executives) , one executive who attended told The Athletic: “The one thing I took away from it is (Boehly) absolutely loves sport and has got a long-term love affair with football. He didn’t claim to know everything about the game, but he certainly talked passionately about his interest in it.”

Boehly and Eghbali have thrown themselves into this new world with total commitment, real enthusiasm and plenty of advice — but the learning curve has been steep and far from seamless. Tuchel also later admitted that his initial transfer wish list had been “pretty unrealistic”.

Boehly and Clearlake are also understood to regret spending so long chasing Jules Kounde, a player Tuchel was less than sold on when he was presented as a target by the old Chelsea regime

The new owners are business-minded with long track records as disciplined, calculating investors; it has not, they insist, been a case of Boehly playing Football Manager, as Gary Neville claimed.

One of the under-reported details of the Mendes meeting is that Boehly was accompanied by academy director Neil Bath; his expertise, and that of assistant Jim Fraser, has been utilised with Chelsea’s new owners sanctioning big bets on Chukwuemeka and Casadei in part on their recommendations.

Boehly and Clearlake have shown a greater willingness than the old regime to jettison players with negative transfer value

Only after the Southampton defeat did the ownership align on the need to add Aubameyang’s clinical finishing ability to an underperforming squad.

Chelsea insist the final price for Fofana was £69.5million, well short of the world record for a defender, and that they only ever valued Everton’s prized asset Anthony Gordon at £40million, not £60million

So essentially these guys are passionate business men who use facts not opinions to make decisions, who would of thought that!!

That surprises me that his position even existed 😅. Changing subject was that Todd’s Mrs he was with today or his mum?

Boehly has to take responsibility for this sh*t show we find ourselves in. There was no reason to let go of Marina , buck and especially Cech. Boehly has no clue about football and would have been better served watching from the shadows in the first year and then stamping his imprint on the team. When Roman came in he didnt make any radical changes until his second year when he fired Ranieri and brought in Mourihno along with peter kenyon. We have spent the most this season and somehow our team looks weaker than last seasons team

I imagine Boehly is reminded why he let them go every time he sees Ziyech, Pulisic, Havertz, Jorginho and Kepa in action on the pitch ... or the fat lump in Italy come to that ... 🙂

They are the same people that bought Hazard , Mata, Salah, Oscar , Diego Costa , Thiago Silva, Kante, Mikel e.tc. The point is they know football and Marina won the football director of the year 2 years ago and most importantly Cech was a big ally of Tuchel and also a Chelsea Legend who could connect our past with our future .

He didn't let them go, he actually wanted to keep them but they left of their own accord

Honestly I feel bad for Todd and Co. They have clearly been working very hard on this, had all the important people of the past board decide to leave, tried to back the manager, invested heavily and this is what they see?

Shocking performances, losses to 3 poor sides, awful football and lucky to win the games we have won.

Exactly the sentiment I was going to post. Honestly they can’t be pleased. Have fully backed the manager but the results and overall level of play will not be meeting their needs. It’s not good enough and I envision more difficult conversations are commencing as the honeymoon period fades.

How have they fully backed the manager if the manager has to do a stupid PR tour in the US which looks like it really cost us and didn't have a DoF in line so made the manager work on stuff he initially openly said he's happy that he's not concerned with these type of duties so he can concentrate on his work as a manager.

Let's hope Boehly has actually really someone in line already - not like all the rest that appears to be super clueless in retrospect.

Couple of good points there, in hindsight.
