From what I caught on TalkSport it was decided when he was in the States. Apparently win , lose or draw last night he was going to be let go anyway... although to me that seems strange because why wouldn't they have talked to someone else then rather than now....unless they had spoken to Potter previously on the QT and today is going to be a formality and a lump of dough to Brighton.

We have done some made things in our time, but this has to be up there with the best of them....typically Chels...nothing gets done easy around here.

I'm not sure how anyone can be so surprised, Tuchel didn't last any longer at PSG or Dortmund.   He has a well deserved reputation of being so prickly that he is next to impossible to work with.  What I do not understand is making Potter your number one replacement choice.  He runs a system nearly identical to Tuchel's, and will have the same problem of forcing players to play out of position.  Also, press accounts state that Boehley stepped in and blocked the transfer of Pulisic because he did not want to lose the U.S. audience.  That's idiotic.  First and foremost, that ship has sailed.  Leeds has an American manager, and two national team starters who have been playing well.  So it is Leeds that gets the top spot on U.S. television with Chelsea relegated to the same streaming service that plays all of the other EPL matches.  Second, by keeping Pulisic locked to a team that does not match his skill set, and forces him to ride the bench will do nothing than draw the continued ire of your countrymen who will flock to other teams to watch.  To be clear, I make these statements as an outside observer. I have lurked on this forum for a while because I follow USMNT players.  I do the same for Leeds, Juventus, Fulham, and Dortmund.  The only team I really care about is Sacramento Republic, who plays in the second tier of U.S. Soccer Football.  (But we are playing tonight in the final of the U.S. equivalent of the F.A. Cup after beating three MLS teams: Go Republic.)  So I really do not have an emotional stake in this.  I was just put off by the notion of keeping the U.S.'s highest profile player locked to a team where his skills do not fit the system at all, and it is clear that he has little chance of succeeding there.  If I were Moroccan, I would be equally as pissed at how Ziyech is being held against his will.

I hope Roman was VERY, VERY sure he let the right people by the club.

I don't have an issue with them replacing TT, if they want their own man fair enough. I have an issue of when they have done it. Roman gave Claudio a season to show what he can do. If they were convinced TT needed to go on the US tour, why keep his and buy players he wants only to sack him 6 days after the window closes? Just seems so stupid.

As far as Pulisic goes Todd was never going to sell him as he was the American poster boy, after all he is 'Captain America'.   While he started off decently he has never regained his form after his injury.  I agree he should have been sent packing in the transfer window, unless he ups his game he may well leave in January depending on how well he does in the WC.  As for Ziyech, he's never had a steady run of games and TBH his career has generally gone flat since his arrival with stops and starts and inconsistent performances that you might be able to hide in the Dutch league but you can't hide it here.  They were willing to let him go to Ajax but as far as Ajax were concerned the money was too much and they wanted a loan deal, so I don't think he was handcuffed to the dressing room.

This is football at its highest level, neither of these players have been consistent enough to play every week or don't have the fortitude to show some urgency in their game regardless whether they are in or out of form, especially Ziyech who at times is so laid back he's in a coma.

Best of luck to your team tonight..

Were all the players what he wanted though, and not what Todd wanted more so based on metrics?  I could see Sterling and PEA but the others I'm not so sure and I doubt any of the kids were his signings either.

Completely fair.  What if that was the plan though, and over the course of 8-10 weeks (discount end of last season, but simply pre-season forward) Boehly and team saw enough to know this was not the right fit and regression was evident.  The question in my mind was how long could they let that go before a change had to be made, after all, this is a results business.

Let it go on in hope of a turn around with no real signs that was coming.  Or take risk and make a calculated change.  Timing does look odd, but circumstances were changing quite quickly on them, and in their eyes, the season is still salvageable.

This was the most hilarious part of your post.

Thanks for brightening a gloomy day for the fans of our club. Bye

Actually scrap that last post of mine, thsi probably the most hilariosu part after all.

Do you have any notion of the  law of contract at all.

No team in the whole of Europe were interested in taking either of these players.

Can we please nip this nonsense in the bud. All managers have involvement in transfers, no manager ever owns transfers. And in the case of tuchel, it sounds like he didn't want to be responsible for transfers.

New sporting director expect at the club soon, and he is one of the people driving the appointment of Potter

Would be excellent if these things were aligned.

Being in Los Angeles I have a VERY reputable source stating that the row between TT and Todd Boehly did happen because of the transfers.  It's no secret that there is/was a personality issue between Pulisic and TT, this is not an arguable point if you know people inside the club you will hear the same.  Moreover, in a WC year, it's important that Pulisic sees the field and his displeasure with game time was a direct clash as to the disciplinarian TT is.  With so much talent available both at the club and in the transfer market, TT had many options to choose from.  But he was told if they went out and got players the team had to play better.  Perhaps a bit unfair as some of those transfers didn't even have the chance to play under TT but the truth was that the loss to Southampton exposed the fact that the CURRENT roster, and Tuechels's current starting squad, were not responding to him and that showed in lack of motivation and results.  Yesterday's match was just the final straw, there really is no excuse for losing to Zagreb, as good as they are, when you are Chelsea.  The fact he played Ziyech who was incredibly inefficient and looks as though he lacks confidence, over Pulisic, whom he has used at that sam position, was also an issue for Boehly.  Whether you agree or not, one can also say that Havertz has been given a leash longer than anyone and a main reason is b/c he too is German.  Of course, some of this is hearsay but most of this is truth.  The Sterling signing was also one pushed for by Boehly and Abamayang's return to play for TT was really a factor of the need for a striker but more so for his need to get out of Barcelona after being robbed at gunpoint (and seeing Lewandowski join).  Take it for what it's worth but that's a background of how this all unfolded.  And yes, an American owner will want the American player to play especially on a team where has of late been given very little game time to showcase anything.  Zidane would be the best fit but I doubt he will want to take the job as he's vocally stated he wants to wait for the French National Team job once Deschamps vacates.

Sounds like the ownership did have a plan in place, and didn't just do random sh*t.

Now whether that plan works or not, is to be seen.

What a shame that the Jim Ratcliffe bid was in too late to get up. A summer full of overpriced spending and an attempt to buy Ronaldo, then sacking the manager after 5 games and now on the verge of appointing someone without the runs on the board to manage this  dressing room.

Where is the "This is Fine" gif when you need it.

To suggest that Pulisic has anything to do with this change of manager is extremely naïve. Boehly has a $4 billion club to run.

I think you've been reading too much posts on internet soccer forums, by friend.

What i can't work out is why all of the US fans (and welcome by the way) have such an inside track on the workings of the club. You guys should all get contracts with Sky or the BBC because none of these seem to have the knowledge that you guys have.

Why do you always have to make it a Pulisic, american thing. I actually think the reason why he has tried so long with Havertz is actually due to his positional versatility and the fact that he is a naturally attacking player. In reality he has been as sh*t as all of the other forward players in the squad.

If Pulisic had actually demonstrated any actual ability when on the pitch then the argument would have some creedence but he has been as ineffectual as having an under 12 player on the pitch and frankly has been lucky to make the bench.

Pulisic is crap - thank me later for that thoughtful insight

Boehly - he came in for the club through one of our darkest periods for which I am truly thankful, however this is an appalling decision if he hasn’t lined up an amazing replacement then the Boehly out campaign will be in full effect I am sure

Should ring his rich owner buddy at Liverpool to sack Klopp, what kind of manager lose 1:4 in the group game of the CL and deserves to keep his job?  Hire Klopp, sign up 'all or nothing', win some trophy, and sack Klopp after the opening match in the following season after Anthony Taylor gave the opposition 2 penalties in Fergie time.

Let's hope it's not some random American sports director with no experience in European football.

I don't know who the poster is, but that isn't exactly new news. All this stuff about the transfers and what not have been out in the open since this afternoon. All the journalists crawl out their cage and start spilling beans all of a sudden. The same journos  who have continually questioned Tuchel and his future, but act surprised when he's fired.

It will be interesting if Boehly comes out and does an interview regarding all this drama. Roman never said a thing about the hire and fire of coaches, so hopefully we hear from Todd.

I think its a mixed bag, lots of posters angry about sacking TT and lining up Potter, but these new owners -

Have opened their wallets up big time and invested in players (might not be all our cup of tea but they've spent)

Cleared out a lot of dead wood permanently- Barkley, Bats, Kenedy, Emerson, Miazga, Alonso, Werner

Have acted decisively when the football on the pitch has started to falter

Have a replacement lined up to be in head coach position for the next round of EPL

Like them or not we are stuck with them and that's better than going out of business under the Tory jackboot, at least they are making football decisions albeit bad ones per some posters and not hiding in the shadows to monetize the club's commercial interests for a dividend like the Glazers
