Didn't it end up going to court? 

De Lucas thought he had a permanent contract with us but it was actually a loan something like that?

Some good value for money in that lot. Geremi. Bridge Johnson. Cole.

Makalele was expensive but worth every penny. Duff was good but well over priced.

Vernon and Mutu were obvious waste of money.

Crespo was fine but couldn't settle in England, so can't brand him a flop.

If only we could find quality like that for that price today. Imagine finding another Makelele, Duff or Crespo for £16m.

For £16m nowadays you can buy Jordan Ibe. 

Lets also not forget spending £16m on a player in 2003 was like spending £65m on a player today.

I was watching the Europa League Final on Youtube (everyday since ) and clicked on the link for the 2004 Champions League game against Arsenal Ambrosio was in goal I completely forgot about that (and him to be honest?).

I still feel that market has inflated way more than it should have. The price of players didn't really change all that much from 2000-2014. The 2015/16 season is when things started to become ridiculous and then a season later it got even worse. How are players costing double and sometimes triple the amount they were getting signed for only 4 or 5 years ago? Imagine buying a 21 year old Hazard today, he would have cost us £70-100m. 

I just don't think these rising prices are sustainable.

We paid well over the odds for Duff. The fees we paid for Lampard, Cech and Robben underline it.

Veron was a classy player not suited to the hustle/ bustle of the Premiership.

Thought Mutu was pretty lively just a shame the way it transpired.

Ps was on my honeymoon in St Lucia for 2 weeks when we were signing players galore. Only seems like yesterday

Agree with what you said about Veron and Mutu. Such a pity the way Mutu ruined his promising looking career with us. Didn't he end up paying us millions in compo?

No way, he was in great form for Blackburn when we signed him and he formed a great partnership with Robben.

It was only an injury to his shoulder that saw his form drop off.
