June 16, 20197 yr July 1st-Aug 31st 2003 That crazy summer transfer window when Chelsea fans had to pinch themselves to make sure it wasn't all a dream. Here we are on the 16th Anniversary with a two window transfer embargo.

June 17, 20197 yr Some good value for money in that lot. Geremi. Bridge Johnson. Cole. Makalele was expensive but worth every penny. Duff was good but well over priced. Vernon and Mutu were obvious waste of money. Crespo was fine but couldn't settle in England, so can't brand him a flop. Edited June 17, 20197 yr by Dixons
June 19, 20197 yr If only we could find quality like that for that price today. Imagine finding another Makelele, Duff or Crespo for £16m.

June 19, 20197 yr Lets also not forget spending £16m on a player in 2003 was like spending £65m on a player today.

I was watching the Europa League Final on Youtube (everyday since ) and clicked on the link for the 2004 Champions League game against Arsenal Ambrosio was in goal I completely forgot about that (and him to be honest?).

I still feel that market has inflated way more than it should have. The price of players didn't really change all that much from 2000-2014. The 2015/16 season is when things started to become ridiculous and then a season later it got even worse. How are players costing double and sometimes triple the amount they were getting signed for only 4 or 5 years ago? Imagine buying a 21 year old Hazard today, he would have cost us £70-100m. I just don't think these rising prices are sustainable. Edited June 19, 20197 yr by Scott Harris
June 19, 20197 yr We paid well over the odds for Duff. The fees we paid for Lampard, Cech and Robben underline it.

Veron was a classy player not suited to the hustle/ bustle of the Premiership. Thought Mutu was pretty lively just a shame the way it transpired. Ps was on my honeymoon in St Lucia for 2 weeks when we were signing players galore. Only seems like yesterday

Such a pity the way Mutu ruined his promising looking career with us. Didn't he end up paying us millions in compo? Edited June 19, 20197 yr by Dixons
