Declan Rice to Chelsea?

Rice sat while Phillips roamed (similar to Kante) last tournament. I assume you watched the opener this year though? Started off with Rice and Jude in a pivot with Mount in front but after half an hour transitioned to Rice holding with Jude and Mount as number 8's. 30 minutes onwards is when England came to life.

England hardly conceded a goal at Euro 2020 because of Phillips and the stability he brought in midfield.  And yes, I did see the opener. And yes, I also did see the switch you mentioned and saw England come alive. Simultaneously, I also saw the 20th ranked nation score 2 past England and transitioned through your midfield like they weren't even there.

Why are you making stuff up, one goal from poor defending from a long ball and one from a penalty, neither came from any players transitioning through the midfield at all.

I think it's important to say that the more technically gifted Phillips that managed to shine much brighter overall during that Euro in comparison to Rice, actually signed for Man City for about 50m or so?

Nobody is actually willing to pay 100m for Rice, except if we take that bait of course but otherwise it's pretty clear that what Rice offers you, you can get for half the price elsewhere

Pep isn't naive so he will never pay that amount for Rice, but he was ready to pay 60m Jorginho and he did sign Phillips for 50m. So there is nothing, absolutely no real justification nor argument as to why Rice is valued so high.

Another sign for that is the fact that Man United signed Casemiro for 70m, you would think that Man United would have signed Rice for that price if that was possible but they got a better player in Casemiro. So why would anyone with common sense sign Rice for 100m?

That player who just scored Argentina’s 2nd should be the only midfielder we should be breaking the bank for.

I'm already raging about us getting Rice and him going to one of our rivals and it hasn't even happened yet.

The @Sconnie Blueand @Argohouseholds if we do sign Rice would probably make for entertaining viewing.

More entertaining than watching our men's team of late anyways...

I'll probably do what i did with Lukaku and spend the "honeymoon" period trying to convince myself everything my eyes has seen for years has been a mirage and that I've let something obvious pass over my head.

Maybe Rice can keep the illusion up for more than the game and a half Rom managed.

At least we would probably not get an interview about how much he loves and misses his former team...

All this talk about Rice coming to Chelsea (and I’m not convinced about him this season) but, is there any news about us going in for him or is it just fans’ rumours?

It's died down a bit since the takeover (it was inevitable under the previous regime in my opinion, we were a sucker for a "story" as we demonstrated by signing Lukaku twice) but I'm still paranoid as his price will be going down (will still take close to if not the record but not the insane £150m price of this year) in the coming years and it would probably be reasonably easy to convince him compared to the likes of Enzo due to his childhood support and the chance to play with Mount.

All I can say is I'd be absolutely delighted if I've got this wrong but I'm just not seeing what many other are.

Yeah, that’s what I thought, that there’s talk without substance. I don’t know about the previous regime as they could have gone in for him if they’d wanted, but didn’t for the price he was tagged. I don’t think we’ll go in for him now, either, and I don’t think we should break a record for his signing. I’m on the fence here, last season I thought he was good, but what I’ve seen this season from him (some West Ham games here and there) hasn’t really convinced me. Regarding this Enzo bloke, I don’t follow Benfica so I can’t  really tell, but from the two games of Argentina this WC, I really haven’t noticed him other than the great goal he scored yesterday. So it could be another player that flops in the PL.

For some reason he's been on the bench both times.

I've watched Benfica specifically for his sake and even downloaded some River games and i genuinely believe he'd be a gamechanging signing. Him alongside the Russian lad (if the reviews i heard on him are accurate) and Nkunku will have us out of this mess very quickly.

Have you watched him in the Portuguese league? Because the quality is really poor. But I guess that the CL is a different thing.

I haven't seen any UCL games because they are on the same night as us but I heard he was good vs PSG.

Regarding the league, for me that's the most reliable league when it comes to bringing players into the PL, Luis Diaz (who annoyingly reminds me of Hazard) the latest success story.

Contrary to popular opinion, I think Enzo would be the easier buy. Cheaper and around 70k~100k/wk starting wage should make us frontrunners.

We'd still have to bid at upwards of 60m for Rice.

I think with the season he's having his price will rise to the £80-100m mark at the minimum. Benfica are tough negotiators as Liverpool found out.

Thankfully Real, Barca and City seem pretty set in his position but United and especially Liverpool could be a problem.

If Rice is available for 100m, united would have signed him instead of casemiro.

So you're saying Rice is more expensive than 100m? They actually got a world class player for less money anyways...

Yes West Ham want more than 100 otherwise one of the top 6 team would have signed him by now.

I wouldn't say they are tough negotiators, more like they are the best selling club.

I think Todd would be crazy enough to buy him even with a huge transfer fee but Todd needs the right people to advise him on that before he blows it on Rice or someone else

Phillips was roaming high, Rice anchored. Conte's title winning season, did we hardly concede because of Matic or Kante? Or will you happily agree it was a tandem of both?

Making stuff up pal, they scored through Maguire leaving his man to run behind and a great finish, and a penalty via VAR. Would love to know how you've managed to blame the midfield for either. Oh wait, Rice is there so you'll shoehorn him into any negative argument.

Ahh yes, spending £200m on three young lads that have never played in a league with an intensity even close to the premier league will save us.

Nkunku is the one likely to make a difference and even he has several large question marks above his head.
