The wording for a lot of football is mainly just hipsters on twitter trying sound like they know more about football than they actually do by using Italian phrases or something they've seen on a youtube video. It's quite a breath of fresh air on here as i don't really see people trying to sound smarter than they are using silly words for a simple position or role on the pitch.

Pivot partner sounds like something from golf or mountaineering 🤣. But if you were in the pub or at the game try talking to the person next to you about a pivot partner and you'll get a blank look. You are right about football hipsters it's a bugbear of mine just explain yourself without the need for buzzwords. But I really hope English football/ media don't bring in that total receptions in their stats although I do think it's a World Cup thing that will be quickly forgotten like those bloody horns in South Africa which I'm not going to attempt to spell !

Its always amusing seeing people discussing all these daft position names, as though this generation has invented a new form of football. All these positions, ways of playing etc have been here for decades, none of it is new.

Even xavi who played for barca, schooled in tiki taka and played for pep think that in modern football team use their dm to provide balance to the team.

He also said it was very hard to make goal/chance creating passes in that position yet it doesn't stop that being one of the sticks to beat Jorgi with.

Also the main players he was referencing when talking about that position were Guardiola/Busquets/Alonso/his younger self, all of whom are known more for their strength in possesion as opposed to out of it.

I have never criticized jorgi for not creating chances. 

No he doesn't use his younger self as example. In fact he said it is unthinkable these days to play player like him as dm. He said the only player who is in his mold to play dm  is pirlo but pirlo is not only protected by two destoryer, but Milan also played diamond which mean you have total protection in the middle.

No he used Busquets, xabi alonso and casemiro as example. So nope.

Ok let's say I accept that that's still 2/3 who are not traditional DMs.

Infact Pep signed a traditional DM (and probably the best defensive one of that period) in Mascherano a couple of years into his tenure and he spent most of it playing CB because Busquets was simply untouchable.

I'm not sure cause as time passes by, the so called "regista" role looks to be more and more viable than anything else, you don't see new players that are the prototypes of Makelele or Roy Keane, but before and after Pirlo you have big teams having a deep-lying playmaker. Maybe the reason why the "libero" role is gone is because it's a clear advantage to have possession and to keep control of the match as much as possible.

Maka was actually a DLP and a great one at that.
