Chelsea v Real Madrid (CL Semi-Final 2nd leg) Wed 5th May 2021 20:00 GMT

Featured Replies

We had,  by our standards of the time, a very average team that won the CL and we were incredibly lucky v Barcelona and reasonably lucky against Bayern. Our much better team that got to the final against ManU nevertheless stuffed it up at the crucial moment.

But even in the year we won we had a lot of players experienced at the big moments in big competitions.

I think we can beat Real but it will take a great fearless attitude and willingness to work really hard in the midfield to run them around.

Dont worry Werner is going to have his Torres vs Barca moment on Wednesday..

It would be better than Hazard doing it for them.

OMG Really!!! We need positve energy. That Hazard thought never crossed my mind until u said but u are right though

I could find it in me to be happy for Eden, given what he did for us and all the troubles he has had there.

Tibo...not so much.

If we want to go through we need to target Ramos right away. Everyone running at him and getting him booked ASAP. Soon as we have a chance get him and his antics sent to the stands.

Either that or he will be bugging the ref for cards for us and fouls/pens for them while injuring our players and he always gets away with it.

Thats the main reason i want Timo starting . We need Timo running at full speed to check the fitness of Ramos and Mendy. It will be quite obvious if they are up for it after 2 Turbo Timo sprints. I also feel like Tuchel will get the players emotionally stable for the match. We need to be fully concentrated because we all know Ramos is a master of the dark arts.

First, we are at home. So I feel we should feel comfortable. Only thing at times that makes me afraid when we play at home is the size of our pitch. I think the size of our pitch is too small, and so at times no spaces.

James must start this one. I think for their goal last week, assuming James was in the game that time, maybe they wouldn't have gotten that goal bcoz James would have supported our tall guys to prevent that goal. So maybe, Tuchel made a mistake there last week.

In Midfield, if Kovacic does not play, it may affect us, and Real Madrid may win.

Up front, same line up as last week bcoz I think they are the best three we could play against Madrid, that was why we played them last week. So again they start.

Dont think home makes any difference without the fans.

I don't think that a 2 meter shorter and 1 meter more narrow pitch really matters here.

The home advantage makes a big impact on the whole pre-game routine. I'd imagine - although those guys are totally used to travelling a lot - the whole check-in/check-out at the airport then at the hotel and whatnot - even if all thats's ***** luxury class - is bothersome, especially with the covid routines nowadays - compared to just do your thing as usual at home.

I guess that's rather irrelevant once the game's begun and especially during overtime I think it's totally unfair having the "away-goal advantage" but it should help us gel into the game as smoothly as possible. Which I think is huge given the fact we're rather inexperienced at that level as a whole.

I am confident of progressing to the final however my only concern is about us having to chase a goal if we go behind, Real are a hugely experienced team and the dark arts will kick in which includes professional fouls and time wasting which will make our players hugely frustrated.

In addition under Tuchel we haven't won a game coming from behind, I don't think its a huge question mark over the team considering we've only been behind against Porto, Southampton and West Brom but inexperience at chasing the game may play a part especially if we go behind in the 2nd half.

Of course Valverde is cleared of covid. That Real squad actually looks Scary as f**k. We really should have buried them in the first half. We will be facing a different beast with RAMOS, VALVERDE , MENDY and a fitter Hazard. The scary thing is they will be more athletic with Valverde and Mendy in the line up . It wont be that same slow Real we saw in the first leg. I guess it just makes for a Blockbuster tie lets pray we are on the right side of history.

I think having Mendy is for them a big deal too, who knows maybe the game gets a totally different tone to it if it doesn't get to rain heavily but we just need to keep cool because we will get a chance to score if we really need to.

Was always going to be a tough game. But they are stil old, have to score, recovering from injuries and we can outrun them. Test of character. We need to play possession and keep them deep and under pressure.  It can be done.

Agreed.

But as much as I had a good gut feeling in the first leg as much do I chicken out right now. Gotta stay brave today and set an example! 😄

That Real Madrid squad doesnt scare me attacking wise. Defensively they are strong, experienced and remind me more of Atheltico M these days. Real are not really a patch on the attacking teams of old but that is partly down to Hazard missing alot of football. Everything goes through Benzema who is class but Vinicius is inconsistent plus Asensio and Isco are not of a high standard. Casemiro is 2nd top goalscorer for Real.

Despite all that I'm terrified they are still capable of turning it around and making it look easy.

I personally quite confident. Play safe, play on the counter with Werner up top and puli. The biggest problem is set pieces. Chris and silva are just ok in the air. You probably won't play alonso in this game, playing Giroud is also not an option, Zouma is the key,how much do you trust him.

I am confused why that squad is scary. I am pretty sure even RM fans does not think their team is scary.

Rm used to have BBC + the same midfield + similar backline.

They may be missing Varane but imo they are much stronger defensively for this leg.

I dont personally feel Varane looked all that great in the first leg. We know what Ramos is about and now they have much better legs at full back or wing back, whichever system they pick.

Big difference in the sides is expierence. Real have it in spades and that is cause for concern.

As I said before I feel a lot will be decided tonight. I dont think UEFA will want an all English CL final especially with an all english Europa league one looking likely.

So what happens with City plays a part imo.

Anything can happen on the night, seen with PSG vs Barca and Bayern and Real vs Liverpool.

It's sad really that I think you are correct there

It's not scary, defensively strong, experienced midfield but doesnt create alot from open play. If theres not an early goal to open the game up then I could see the match being decided by the odd goal, the thing that scares me most is that football has a way of writing stories, I was thinking it would be Tuchel vs his old team final but we shall see.
