Raheem Sterling signs for Chelsea

I rate Sterling quite highly, and agree with the consensus that he's better than anyone comparable we currently have, but he's a high volume of chances forward isn't he? The numbers guys have said that our issue is creating chances rather than finishing them (I know the eye test suggests the exact opposite - I was surprised to read that). I'm not sure he'd be a solution to the obvious goalscoring issues we've had under Tuchel, but again, a definite improvement on Werner, who is probably the closest equivalent in our squad.

One concern - he has played a very high number of minutes for a footballer his age. Might be meaningless, but it does raise questions about his long-term durability.

I think we should go for it, if for no other reason than @yorkleyblue and I finally being able to settle that bet we made years ago. Also the Liverpool fans hate him, which probably means he's a good egg.

I think you are pretty much spot on.  We need better more goal creating/scoring central midfielders rather than an upgrade at wing forwards.

I’d rather we get in Eriksen or Neves maybe, creativity is our most defunct area in MF

Sterling is not really very different from Werner. Both need a lot of chances to score goals. Chelsea as a team does not create enough chances per game. There are plenty of games last season that we did not have a single chance that can lead to a goal created in an entire Half. Until we revamp our midfield and get quality goal  scoring creators that can move the ball fast from defence to attack, every player we buy as an attacker will struggle. Having said that, a attacking trio of Werner , Jesus, Sterling  backed by a fast paced midfield is a stuff of dreams. We would be super fast and fluid .  But I still retariate that without a revamped midfield, there is no forward we can get that would matter much.

That’s a bit pessimistic.

Maybe so but I more think of it as trying to match what they will each have:

City: Haaland, Silva, Mahrez

Pool: Diaz, Nunez, Salah

I don't feel the suggest 3 of Dembele, Nkunku and Gabriel Jesus would be close to that level.

However would it be an improvement on what we have? Certainly, just not enough to match Pool or Cities front line.

You quoted my post without reference to my players or your choice, I’m intrigued to your options?

Interesting. Sterling and Werner up front? Could work with a rule change.

BREAKING: FIFA have unveiled goal posts big enough for Messi to score a penalty.

Well, one player scored 13 goals with 5 assists in the premier league and the other scored 4 goals and 1 assist. I won't tell you which is which, but you probably don't need me to. So, to me, one needs an abundance of clear cut, no one in goal, 3 yards out, centered directly in front of goal, and hopefully no one to makes any quick movements and then we are potentially in business to score goals. He's like a T-Rex, if the goal doesn't move he can't find it

I’m confused I thought it was Sterling that ran like a T-Rex or is it a Velociraptor?

Wanted to add Eriksen to our midfield options but forgot. I think we can accommodate an Eriksen and Dembele as creators in our team bcos they are essentially coming in as free agents. A revamp of that midfield with Eriksen as a creator tasked with getting the ball to our attackers quickly as opposed to Jorgiboy's side to side shows is important this season. Without that we might as well us stick to getting to top four as our only target

Yes, I’d mentioned we need an Eriksen desperately in other threads, Mount Eriksen Gallagher, would provide Legs and verve with plenty of guile

Seem's like this is gathering pace, it doesn't fill me with excitement. My biggest concern is that he's a player that started very young at 17, sometimes players who do that burn out earlier and he maybe 27 but footballing wise he's in his 30s.

Though the rumoured fee is quite cheap for him as he's got 1 left on his contract.

Wages are the problem, he may well see out his deal and head to a side willing to give him 400k a week.

Sky Sports have reported that City would sell to foreign clubs for 35mill but as they see Chelsea still as a title rival our price is 60mill...way too pricey at that.

I doubt there will be an abundance of clubs willing to pay Sterling £400,000 a week.

Should not be for sure Val, however when you consider Rom is on 325k and Werner 275k you do wonder...

That would be after running down the final year of his contract. For someone who has not been the first name on the sheet for years (if ever) it's a big jump from the reported £300,000 a week he's on now.

But yeah, the football world is insane and therefore capable of anything,  I see your point

And then he will play like Timo lol.

Think Boehly would be pissed considering we are trying to offset useless players on high contracts with useful players on high contracts.

Timo manages to outperform Sterling I'll eat my hat.
