April 29, 20242 yr I like Cucu good player and personality to have. Pep would have made him a top class defender

April 29, 20242 yr Been shouting all summer that Cucurella as an inverted full back would be ideal for this team as it would allow us to have more bodies in the midfield in transition and it would provide more width. The whole "Who will feed Mudryk?" notion was yet again put to moot as we dominated that entire 2nd half and should've won. I swear Saturday was like the 2nd or 3rd time we saw that happen all season.
May 2, 20242 yr Another good performance playing in a role that not only suits him but provides some stability in the defence and midfield.
May 2, 20242 yr Okay I now understand why Pep wanted him and how he had planned on using him. Edited May 2, 20242 yr by Remodez

May 2, 20242 yr I voted for him as MOTM tonight but I would not set too much faith that this will be the norm for him. We have seen him have the odd game like this before. Also there were still many occasions, where he was miles out of position as a left back, with acres of space and a man behind him completely open. A better team to make that pass, and a better player than Johnson to feed on it, we would have been in trouble as we have so many times before. He will never, ever be a top defender in my book. He is too erratic, too chaotic. A ball chaser. Everything he does is done at 100mph. There is no calmness. There is no rational decision making. No positional discipline. But it worked tonight, so fair play to him.
May 2, 20242 yr MOTM for me tonight, this inverted role suits him perfectly. Strange its took this long for us to try him there.

May 3, 20242 yr On his day he must be an absolute pain to play against. Like a swarm of wasps you can never get rid of despite all your best efforts. That was more than a good performance yesterday, that was a fantastic one.

Yesterday he was - dare I say it - world class. The inverted role Poch has found for him has been perfect thus far, of course it takes a bit longer to fully trust Cucu after the seasons he’s had but man - so happy for him. Long may it continue
May 3, 20242 yr Another possible redemption arc. As I've said numerous times on here: people are unfairly quick to dismiss new players as flops. We've overpaid for a lot of the squad but it's through no fault of the players. Most of thsese boys are incredibly talented and given time and a more stable club structure I'd wager most will come good.
May 3, 20242 yr Cucu went through a patch like several of making terrible mistakes. And he isn’t great in attack but he works his butt off and mostly defends well enough. Edited May 3, 20242 yr by ozboy

He's been sh*t for 2 seasons now, a couple of good games there and there and of all of a sudden he's a good signing ? He cost 60 freaking millions. With Chilwell declining and Maatsen getting sold he's probably gonna be our starting LB next season so lets hope his form continues...

He hasn't played that much this season but when he has I wouldn't describe him as sh*t.
May 3, 20242 yr There is a better player in there than we see. Didn't he have injury and personal issues last year as well. In a settled side, and the need for squad depth, I think he has more than enough to offer. Candidly, I'd have him starting over Chilwell every time right now, and thats based on Chilwell's drop off in form, confidence and availability (even assuming he was fit).

Yes his house got robbed while his family was home I think with a new baby. I challenged anyone to not let that mess with your daily work!

He's absolute dross when asked to play as a traditional full back. This new role inverting into midfield (which so many people have said for months, don't know how its took a professional coach this long to figure it out) suits him perfectly. TLDR; traditional full back he's abysmal and a compelte waste of money, in this role he has a future with Chelsea.
May 5, 20242 yr Genuinely funny that Cucurella of all people may have been the key to unlock this team all along. Absolutely brilliant in his current role. Everyone's wanted to sell him for 18 months but at this point we'd be insane to even consider it this summer.

It happened once before, probably in this thread somewhere, he came back into the team and we went on a run of wins after playing terribly!
May 5, 20242 yr The change in him and the team now he is in this new role has been amazing long may it continue
May 5, 20242 yr Whatever I've said about his hair in the past.. I take it all back... played brilliantly yesterday and looks better every time I see him.
