Marc Cucurella

His euros performances may well draw interest, and we will probably be happy to shift his wages given they don't fits with Clearlakes model.

Problem is Todd and Tommy T paid 62mill for him, are Clearlake willing to take a massive loss on him to shift his wages?

Would be crazy to sell him now given he seems on an upwards trajectory in form/confidence while with Chilwell it's the total opposite.

I believe it would be based on his wages.

Seems clear to me Todd had his way of doing things, experienced players for the most part and big wages, and Clearlake think of things very differently, and were happy to get shot of players like Koulibaly because of it.

Chilwell, Cucurella, Wes Fofana, Sterling and anyone else on more than 180,000k a week I believe they would happily sell for the right price.

I was a big critic of the little fella early on, but damn then he turns in Super Poodle and looks a good enough backup for Ben. Without a doubt I would keep him. And we have done well it the past with Spanish fullbacks haven't we.

He’s had two good performances for Spain so far. Last night my Spanish family were impressed with him and, @just will be happy to know, I’ve already sold him to them :laugh2:

Don't believe it. I'm still out here and should be moving over here permanently in the next couple of months. I have not seen one Spanish person with a Cucurella shirt on, let alone wearing a Cucurella wig!!

From everything I read the deal was circa £55 million with add ons of about £7 million. I doubt those add ons have kicked in yet and to be fair most add ons are based on team success such as winning the CL

He signed a 6 year deal so around 33% of that such has been amortised so he is worth around £39 million. Anything around that number would balance the books from that perspective

However going forward squad costs as a % of  club income is  far more important so if he truly is on £175k a week then the wage cost savings (you need to add in employers nic of circa13% ) would be £3.9 million pa add the £8 million pa  amortisation charge that would no longer be a factor so in a blink of an eye you cut £12 million from squad costs . The problem is you have to replace him and the suggestion by some is the Chilwell will struggle in the new HCs system.

I don’t think he is going anywhere

He also suffered illness and a home-invasion burglary in his early Chelsea days. Basically he's now more and more producing his Brighton form, that which earned him Players' Player of the Season as well as Player of the Season.

Yeah, I'm with you guys. He's improved so much since the start of his chelsea career, more like the Brighton player we paid for.

We definitely need to keep him. Him and Gallagher are the only ones that seem full of energy compared to the rest.

I think Marc has done alright, especially towards the end of the season, he was intelligent and enthusiastic.  He wants to do well. He has desire to play for Chelsea, etc. The problem as always is "How much?".  did we really pay 60 million quid for him? He is not worth that kind of money. But, he plays for us now and here is. We would all somehow feel a lot better if we had paid a much more realistic 25 million quid for the poodle haired fellah. We over paid. But as a left back he is alright.

I've never really got some of the negativity towards Cucu as I think he has greatly improved the team when he comes back into it! On two occasions when he has been out injured and returns, he has completely changed the team for the better which was obvious!

I gave him stick earlier in his Chelsea career but have changed my tune on him! Sure, he might have the odd David Luiz error in him, but overall I think he has been a great signing! If we sell him, it would be a big mistake!

I put a theory here a little while ago about players with an M in the name automatically puts them on a forum hit list!

All of my issues with Cucurella comes down to his defending, I think he is awful at it and I think we have seen enough of it to justify having those concerns. He hasn't got a clue when it comes to knowing when to hold and when to go into a tackle, he just guesses.

As an inverted full back, he can have a future with us because it forces him to play to his strengths. I'm sure this is why City were originally interested in him. But he will cost us goals and I hope if we will be looking out for a replacement in the future that can defend and play this inverted full back role.

Yep. His best (and only) defensive attribute is his industry and energy, and like Conor Gallagher it needs to be channelled by the coach to avoid becoming a liability out-of-position.

There is more to defending than just effort, especially when you're a defender. I don't think Cucurella has great instincts in this regard (especially compared to Chilwell).

My gripe with him is that we broke the transfer record for a right back and we got him for that money. Look at Malo Gusto who is already a more complete full back at younger age.

I agree Cucurella's been good for us these last 5-10 matches and very good for Spain but you pay premium for very talented, athletic and intelligent player that he clearly isn't.

But I don't say he can't repay that transfer fee that naturally he isn't really at fault of.

I have been very harsh with him because of what I said but I wish him the best still as his personality is very good. I really think this type of person is good for any kind of group.

His positioning is terrible for a top class player, constantly out of shape, face on far too much, gets rolled far too easily etc.
