It meant Cucu taking the entire left side. That’s how a saw it too. It drove me nuts how Williams defending left Cucurella isolated so many times. For me, Cucurella is not the best left back and we should try to improve that position, but he’s a very good option to have at the moment and he’s growing in confidence, which is good for us.

July 14, 20242 yr Cucu has some weaknesses but my goodness he has energy and spirit. He gets up and down that touch line way better than anyone we’ve had since Cole. He is plenty good enough for Chelsea. Yes we will concede a few goals due to his height and occasional error but he makes the team tick nearly always available, rarely loses the ball.
July 14, 20242 yr Average defending, superb pass for the goal. He was poor on the overlap prior to the goal as again he really lacked the pace to keep up, but his passing is faultless. Play him as an inverted fullback/in midfield and all his strengths are amplfied, and his weaknesses are mitigated. He will do well in Maresca's system. I'd still take a massive bid for him though - maybe Real Madrid can be convinced to do something stupid
July 14, 20242 yr You can't deny he has character, at least. Players that fire up when they have a point to prove are always leaders in a squad.
July 15, 20242 yr Haven't always seen it myself, wanted him sold this past summer, but credit to members like Just who always have seen the player in him. Congrats Marc.

It meant Cucu taking the entire left side. That’s a fair point but England’s inability to attack in the second half meant Cucu had a relatively easy second half as opposed to the first. The game had more of an ebb and flow in the first and when Saka got the ball Williams was never far away. My original points stands that he often got isolated earlier last season and got next to no help from Mudryk or Sterling. He’s a better player than most Chelsea fans think I reckon. If there is a better option the manager wants in then fair enough but I didn’t see a left back in the tournament that stands out as better than him and he did a great job for us the last few months of the season in the inverted role. Chillwell would be out the door before him imo

July 15, 20242 yr Best left back in tournament... so say UEFA. Got to stick it to Gary Nevil. bar the result what isnt to love about that. Shakey start to life with us and yes, we know he does have limitations, but we do alright with Spanish full backs... Happy to have him about the club to be honest given the flex and change of the managers the past two years, think he's needed. I prefer Chilwell but he needs to stay fit... think Cucu will actually grow into the CFC set up this season. He's also now a proven winner at the top level.
July 15, 20242 yr Gary Neville at the start of the Euros: "The Spanish defence has got a lot of experience now but there’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re going to go all the way. And I have to say, Cucurella being at left-back probably is another example of why we think that." 🙂🙂

This is thing the Cucu “sellers” are missing he’s great person seems loved but also is getting back to his Brighton form. There is a reason Pep wanted him from Brighton. We need winners in our team with so many young players and we have one now in Cucu. Hes gone through a tournament with a manger who’s won at every European level internationally yet some fans just want to get rid of that and experience.

Pep wanted Eric Dier. If true it's amazing Pep has ever won anything!!! He must be the World's best bullet dodger!

If Maresca was unsure about him before the tournament began then he’s definitely less so now. Southgate is one of the worst managers I’ve ever seen. He’d last about 3 months in the Premier League. I would say he has had a brilliant tournament, but wouldn't say he was brilliant yesterday. He provided the assist but otherwise thought he struggled to make an impact. He worried me defensively yesterday but kept going and provided match-winning assist. Defo been best LB of the tournament for sure though.

Didnt think he was needed - however, I hope Maresca finds a way to integrate him into his set up as he's up to the job as his spanish performances have shown. Well done him, lets hope he brings the form back with him from Germany as its good for the club. Definitely needs to up his game in our club colours. He has been underwhelming but then so have been many others. Im guessing Maresca will try and get Sterling playing like Striling at City, Palmer, a few others he knows... We really need to see an improvement and get back to top 4, then asses the squad and see what is available in the club's youth ranks or elsewhere and push on to get in a position to title challeng when Pep leaves. Liverpool will be a joke this seaosn and im looking forward to the dippers calling up 606 balling their eyes out. If our season goes wrong then at least I have the scallies tears to bath in, and probably tottenham fans too.

Funny enough the ball Cucurella played to set up the goal was almost a carbon copy of Chilwell completely ignoring Sterling on the counter against City.

I know he has the odd liability/error in him and sometimes that's because he puts it all on the line. I love his tenacity and grit but I also love he just gets stuck in. Doesn't moan, not arrogant and a decent bloke which can be the reason a lot of managers like him imo. Pep likes to mould ppl to this tactics and I can see why he wanted him. Is there a better left back out there atm? By that I mean someone also not currently at the nurses office? Someone that has the grit and determination to always try and do/be better and do what the manager says? Someone that has the experience to help a massively young and inexperienced side (especially in the Premier league)? *Even if he is to do the bare minimum because Maresca and his staff have an army of kids/new recruits to deal with, then keeping him is a no brainer for the manager. Someone that he can rely on like the other older/experienced ones to keep the flow going while he gets his tactics and game plan across to the more "pro-active" positions. P.s. Now with thiago gone 😢, are we the youngest squad in the PL? Edited July 15, 20242 yr by Simplymo

His thread pops up there everytime he has a decent match - that's two or three times per year. If fit enough to play those, of course. I got banned at RedCafe because of that thread. The hysteria reached max levels after the 2018/19 season when that thread was filled with tons of posts calling him the best left back England has ever had and all that bullsh*t. I told them he was bang average and never will he be available for more than a few weeks and called Wan Bissaka a fraud before his move there and told them he is the worst full back going forward that football has ever seen and that they have overpayed for him by 30M. No other place on the internet overrates their own players like RedCafe. Just look at the Zirkzee thread. I still can't believe that I see people comparing that absolute lamp post to football legends. He is worse than Fellaini.
