Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

Not creating enough? There are two teams on the pitch and Arsenal defend well and press well. That's what the top teams do and Arsenal at the moment are a top team. I don't like to say that but it's the reality.

Manager already on the excuse train.

It's the reactionary behavior that does my head in. It's something all too familiar and something I wanted rid of permanently at this club.

We reacted all game and I knew, simply knew, Potter wouldn't do anything until Arsenal scored. Lord and behold, he made 3 changes literally minutes after Arsenal scored.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Reactionary managers don't challenge for the Premier League against this City, Liverpool and now Arsenal team.

I worry that Potter isn’t quite elite because he is “too nice”. He never seems upset when we lose. I know getting getting upset doesn’t necessarily mean you’re world class but I want to see him that have that “killer” edge to him. I always thought Lampard was abit naive and nice to be world class - but he seems to have learnt the dark arts at Everton.

I agree with you, Potter s not an elite level manager. It's a clear error on the part of Boehly to appoint him. Sadly he will stick with him for far too long.

I don't think Potter will sort this he's too junior. This could be an expensive learning curve for the Americans.

@dkw was right. We won't achieve much this season

I'm not saying this is what it was, but it really looked like the players have downed tools ready for the World Cup, like they saw what happened to poor Chilwell and don't want to risk missing it.

And our next game is against the Geordies who pretty much don't have anyone on course to be in the WC so..

I could see them thrashing us honestly

I understand giving Potter chances but I personally expected him to be at least be tactically sound and bring the squad to some level of preparedness.

If this was within a week of Potter joining us, I was ok. It's been over a month now and we don't even look like a coherent squad. 2 points out of 12 in the league is woeful and there is a strong case where it may even stretch to 2 points out of 18

Personally, I didn't expect much. If Tuchel was struggling with this team, Potter was no doubt going to struggle especially since we have multiple injuries now. I think a lot of fans are used to new manager bounces so now that it didn't happen with Potter, they are ready to throw the toys out the pram. I hate to make comparisons to other teams (especially Arsenal since I'm annoyed, they are doing well) but Arteta started off just as bad and they could have easily fired him but they didn't. We have a chance to change the firing and hiring culture at the club and IMO it begins with Potter. I say we lower our expectations this season, give Potter at least 2 to 3 years to build his own team and then judge him accordingly.

Have to admit I'd be very surprised if he made it to the end of the season at this rate, unless Boehly really wants to double down on his decision

Potter‘s positive impact according to some:

•    2-1 Vs Palace with Gallagher clutch goal
•    3-0 win Vs Milan side (only impressive win, Milan with many injuries)
•    3-0 win Vs Wolves who sacked their manager
•    2-0 win Vs Milan side who had received a red card very early and still dealing with injuries
•    2-0 win Vs Aston Villa who dominated us most of the game and looked like a new team. Kepa bailed us out.

Amazing guy that charlatan.

This will get worse before better. And I don’t necessarily mean it will get better with potter.

I had my reservations with him at the start. And I think this job is too big for him. Never should have given him the job in the first place. Seems to be a bit of a fraud.

There's middle ground though, the squad maybe flawed but it's not this bad.

Arsenal didn't even play that well, which is all the more frustrating.

The thing with giving managers this level of project is they themselves have to be tactically sound, play a style of football that's attractive and have the charisma/allure that draws top players to come and join his project.

Some managers are winners, some bring out the best football in players. What pull does Potter have to bring in the Ronaldo's and Messis of the world into our squad?

We aren't the dominant powerhouse we were back in '08-'15

If you didn’t expect there to be bumps in the road after this change of coach after the season started, then I admire the optimism. If potter works out, we are going to have to be patient and cope with setbacks. Not saying that was acceptable. Terrible display.

I got a bit of flak for saying this months ago but if he wasn't English he wouldn't have been in the conversation for the Chelsea job. Media hyped him thorugh the roof. Realistically is he any more qualified than Nuno?

I suspect the owner will stick it out for a few years to see how it goes. Sacking him now will cost too much, so we just have to buckle up and lower our expectations for the next few seasons unfortunately.

I haven't heard such a defeatist manager post match interview since Conte in 2017/18.

Bloke really just said he has no complaints at the result.

We "huffed and puffed" so it was alright. And Arsenal are a top team and we aren't (basically what he implied).

f**king deer in highlights. And disrespecting the club as well even though he probably doesn't realize it. We were a far better side than Arsenal last year, it's your fault we f**king aren't now Graham.

There is a strong disconnect between the fans and the players/club. Has been for a while now and its reflected in the home crowd support over the past several months. Very dislikable group of players atm and a manager who looks well and completely out of his depth.

There is virtually no way Boehly can listen to Potter post match and be happy about that. Shocking mentality.

Not saying he should escape criticism. I personally didn't like the fact that he didn't Zakaria and Gallagher but people thinking that firing Potter is going to save our season are on something else.

I don't care if sacking Potter ends up with us mid table,Potter is out of his league, Brighton isn't Chelsea, what bloody expectations are with Brighton, nowhere near to the level of being the Chelsea manager.
