It’s not bias, honestly…

Needs to prove he can stay fit for the majority of next season. It worked fine for Gary Neville in the late 00s at United likewise us and Terry in the last title season, and (hopefully) James will be on the pitch a lot more than those examples. The club captain responsibility goes well beyond duties on the pitch they basically set the standards for the entire club and James is a perfect candidate in my opinion.

February 8, 20233 yr Came off holding his hamstring. What in the actual f**k. Someone genuinely voodoo'd us.
July 20, 20232 yr Only watched the highlights from last night but every clip of him was giving away a foul. Can anyone that watched the full 90 give a bit of a summary of his performance?
July 20, 20232 yr Imo he played rather safe, as you might expect. Still got forward on several occassions and looks to be a good athlete. Cant say I noticed those fouls, but watching on an Iphone four o’clock in the morning might do that to you! Encouraging if unspectular start

I thought he did enough, was fairly safe on the ball, recovered well and generally looked like he belonged. But I am not that good a judge.
July 23, 20232 yr Felt he did well last night. Up against the best winger in the EPL in Mitoma and more than held his own. Did lose him for their first goal, allowing Mitoma to just get a yard behind him to win the header. But the quality of Gilmour's long ball was excellent.
July 23, 20232 yr We have a player here to compete with James takes the pressure off the coach to rush James back

Looks a little bit out of his depth for me, especially defensively. Early days of course and hopefully he will get stronger and more assured

In open play Mitoma didn’t get past him once. My opinion, Reece would not have done as well defensively. Reece is much better in attack right now but Mitoma is a safe pair of feet defensively.

Just watching the game and he looks to me slightly lightweight. Like I said I my post it's still very early days.. I'm now at 83 minutes and I'm not too disappointed with this. I am a little concerned how the youngsters would fair in a PL campaign so whilst they look good enough now maybe a PL loan might be good for a couple. But considering how long Pochettino has had these, we are definitely on the right path here.

But you get his job wasn't just to defend right. I am also not sure that he physically ready for the PL, but we will see. If its just a defensive RB it currently looks to me that Chalobah could be a better choice as back up to James. I am assuming though tht we want more going forward. Like I've said about three times now it's still very early days, so we will see. Edited July 23, 20232 yr by WhiteWall
August 3, 20232 yr Lucky to have him. Early days but OL fans are full of sh*t if they think he is weak defensively. Shouldn't feel at all anxious to rest or even drop James for a period.

Very confident player and also looks good going forwards.
