Just because it's offering a lot of money, it doesn't mean it's a respectable competition. The entire competition seems motivated by money, not about competition and the love of football.

It hasn't managed to get a broadcaster yet, asking for too much money apparently.

Never mind, it has now, must have taken anything they could get.

We are in Group D with Flamengo, Leon (MX), and Sport Tunisia

Nice, so different sides we never get to play.

Should be fun.

Should we get through maybe we face Estevao in the knock outs.

^ Yes he is.

I have very little interest in this competition. The season is already physically taxing as it is, and now we have this competition on top of it.

FIFA just being greedy pricks as usual.

So many teams around the world, let alone Europe, would love to have the opportunity we’ve got here.

I say we go for this full out to win it. We’re in the perfect position to enjoy it as well with no pressure as we already have one in the cabinet.

We win the UEFA conference and this new look trophy, we really will have won it all.

Have we played an African club before? We didn't in either of the previous CWCs we entered, and I never really remember pre-season games (apart from that Drogba goal against AC Milan about 15 years ago).

Definitely an interesting trophy design to say the least, looks fragile and a challenge to replicate for club museums when they have to give it back; unless Tiffany and co are making new ones every time.

Looks like an hanayama puzzle

If we win it I think the prize money is 100m. That gives us a free hit at an elite player with no ffp impact.

Or alternatively we've covered the shortfall from having no front-of-shirt sponsor this season, plus we get a free hit on half a dozen Brazilian teenagers  🙂

Been a lot of talk how we "must" make a challange for the title next season.

After playing this competition our start to the league season will be difficult. Players will be knackered, not having a proper break and ore season.

The season ends May 25th.It’s 3 weeks until the first CWC game from then.

If we factor international competition, 2-3 weeks isn’t unordinary for players to go on holiday and then come back for preseason. I’d imagine our first game against Leon will be mostly 2nd string and youth players.

Are we not under threat from Fifa that our best players must both go and play?

Under threat lmao. What quantifies “best players”? Players are contracted to show up when they need to but they are also contracted to go on holiday when the season finishes.

Palmer, Caicedo, Enzo. Players with star power I would guess.

They can’t quantify it. Or the club will simply say they aren’t fit lmao. If I’ve learned anything under Maresca and this new medical team, we won’t overwork players.

It’s just an earlier preseason which is fine. Our regular starters will get 3 weeks off and the first couple games will consist of the likes of Felix, Sancho, Paez, Santos, Veiga, etc.
