Good to see, if he gets a full season of playing in the Pl under his belt, I cant see him not being a very important part of our squad next season Interested to know whether there is a recall clause in the loan deal. If need be. And odds are there will be a need.

Yeah we ARE light in central defensive midfield, but now that we’d decided to loan him I’d rather leave him there for the season given that he plays regularly. I am forever scarred by the stupid recalls of Ake and Casadei

August 31, 20241 yr Saints fans were raving about his performance midweek and then didn't even get on the pitch today.
September 1, 20241 yr For a team that can’t defend not playing him is madness .. also their left winger looked good.

Fans will assume Lesley isn’t good enough, but Southampton would rather prioritise giving their players game time even if it means going down. The craziest thing is he looked really good in preseason, and it seemed the manager trusted him. Just makes you wonder who is making the decisions.

Sending both Ugochukwu and Santos out on season long loans leaving yourself just the injury prone Lavia in one of the most pivotal positions of your whole formation does make you think that again the lunatics are running the asylum
September 1, 20241 yr Watched a 10 minutes highlight earlier, those saints were killing themselves with passing from the back. They could have used a DM who could pass and keep the ball, wonder when will they start taking notice. It's the nature of loaning players, unless you are a level above of the team, it's hard for the manager to make those big decisions to drop established contracted club players .
September 14, 20241 yr Bossing the midfield against MU. Looks really comfortable and doing well as the anchor.

September 21, 20241 yr Doesnt start today. Had he stayed, he would have had more minutes with us thus far. Lets see what happens, though
November 1, 20241 yr Saints fans not impressed so far. We need to stop sending these players to relegation clubs unless its a straight out transfer. At the moment he 100% needs to replace Santos at Strasbourg next season.

Had he cost us £8m it wouldn't be so bad but we spent 25M on a farily limited player that wasn't and probably won't ever be ready for the first team.

Santos was in the same boat this time last year. Now we are talking about him coming in to replace Enzo. I think we have a good thing going with Strasbourg in terms of player development. Clearly sending these players to relegation fodders isn't working.

Age doesn't make him anything other than average. Santos showed elite potential from a young age with his goal scoring and all round game. Much the same with Paez and Estevao. What within Ugochukwu's profile would make him anywhere near being worth 27.M? Even a seasoned pro with his limitations and profile would only go for around that price. Average passer, average ball carrier, decent at breaking up play. Ugochukwu falls into the Deivid Washington category of silly overpriced signings.

Nor because he's average at 20 doesn't mean he'll be average forever. He's just got out of being an adolescent. If we want to become a club where we will make 10x profit on our players we need to send them to the right clubs. Loaning to relegation fodders should become a thing of the past with how Santos did in contrast. Santos was getting slated by Forrest fans during his loan and he couldn't even get into Forrest's team. Forrest actually preferred paying the penalty we put on the loan deal than to actually play Santos. These types of loans don't work well with younger players. If Santos is an example of how good the environment is at Strasbourg than Lesly should 100% be sent there next.

If we want to be a club that makes 10x profit on players we shouldn't be spending 27.5M on limited holding midfielders. I don't disagree with what you're saying but even after the Forest deal we would have still made profit on Santos is we wanted to cut ties. Ugochukwu was always too much money for the talent on show. Same as Washington.

Same as Washington. It's unrealistic he'd make it here but its quite easily for us to make a profit on Lesly. He's on a 7 year deal and his remaining book value is at £20m. If he develops as expected at Strasbourg in 2-3 years time the club could realistically make a £20-£25m flip profit.

I'd welcome a recall if it meant we saw useful minutes from him. I simply dont get how Maresca isnt in charge of who comes and goes or is part of his squad when the players we've signed are all within the clubshouse rules. Chalobah is one of if not our best performing CB statistically according to this... Does rate Tosin higher in one metric... https://sports.yahoo.com/signing-trevoh-chalobah-compares-chelsea-135100837.html#:~:text=In comparison%2C Chalobah averaged 57.75,and Axel Disasi (44.44%). I simply cant fathom how Cilwell isnt allowed to stake a claim in the side and therefore increase his reputation for sale or improve the squad quality. So yeah, we signed a ton of players, lets start seeing if theyre any good, cause clearly the ones signed last summer are not good enough for maresca along with some of the high profile signings, Nkunku, Felix, Neto, Mudryk, KDH etc..
