Lesley Ugochukwu (DM) Rennes. West Ham want him to replace Rice.  Chelsea, who are after two DM players, have an excellent relationship with Rennes and have spoken with his agents and directly with the club. Clarification is being sought whether he would be shipped off the Strasbourg or not. A very viable and far cheaper alternative to Lavia and others

Sounds like he isn’t even a regular for Rennes.  Another Strasbourg player?

Ticks the boxes for height and position, but the reported fee (£23.5m) seems high.

Have seen him touted as "the new Patrick Vieira" so hope he kicks on to live up to that !

We are after two DMs.  First choice was Ugarte and now is it is Caicedo.  So depending on how it all works out.  Lesley is back option, option no.3, he is going to be loaned out, loaned to Strasbourg, unless, we fail to sign one of the two other lads. In which case we bring him into the squad.  simple right?

We are spending so much on these random players. 20m here, 25m there. It adds up.

There is a allocation for both first team and youth prospects. 

 

Apparently Brightin had him lined up as Caicedos replacement.

Still way too high though, and for that fee he should at least be a squad option. A big worry is with the loan rules, a player like him effectively has 2 seasons (21yrs old) to be the “real deal” or the club might be forced to sell him because of the rules. We need these players to be around the under €12m mark for it to be good business. Oscar Zambrano a 19yr old Ecuadorean DM who played in the U20 World Cup and linked with Barcelona & A**x is on the market for €5m is the type of smart deals will should be making. €27m is way too steep, and other PL clubs are signing squad players at that price point. Alvarez was €15m.

25 million is ridiculous. He's not even a starter for Rennes and is by all accounts poor on the ball.

Hmm not sure what I make of our transfer strategy currently. Time will tell I guess but all feels very scattergun… again. We have spent about 80m-100m on prospects again this summer? None of which are lined up to help the first team. Could this not have just gone to the main player we want first and foremost? (Caicedo)

Even if some of these 25m players play well in France, who buys them for much more than that when we can’t make room for them? No one has money apart from prem. Seems a flawed plan to me.

Said it before the rest of Europe has no money.  Who are we selling all these players to for £30 - £40m?

As already been said, different budgets. What I spend in the bar makes the same amount of difference to whether we'll sign Caicedo or not as the youth budget does.

Don't believe it for a second. Anyone credible who's reported that?

Certainly counts in terms of FFP so to say it doesn't have an effect on first team additions is wrong either way.

It does make me laugh that we view our guys as emerging talent specialists finding all of these pearls in the back of beyond. We're paying 20m- 30m a time on unproven kids that haven't even played real senior football. Of course we are signingbtgem, we're paying 10m more than anyone else is interested in paying

If these players were signed by Brighton or a similiar club, it would be about 5m. Reminds me of Chukuemeka when he had 1 year on his deal, no-one else really interested, and we just threw 20m at Villa. Do we even try to negotiate?

 

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu. The deal is for a permanent signing. Chelsea have reached an agreement worth around €27.5m for the 19-year-old. A medical is scheduled for the next 24 hours.

Not in the eyes of FFP though ?
