Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea

Can someone name me an occasion this season where a mistake from Robert Sanchez was the difference in costing us points?......

I can remember the first Bournemouth game (earlier this season) where he was the (positive) difference between us winning and losing that game and I think there was another where he basically won us points.

I can't think of any this season (not last) where his mistakes actually cost us points.

He makes a mistake almost every game, just because we've been lucky not to get punished doesn't mean it's okay.

One moment doesn't change that, just like his line breaking pre assist in the reverse fixture didn't suddenly make him a genius passer.

What keeps him at number 1 is somehow despite all the keepers we've signed he's the best one.

Basically we've got to hope the board keeping throwing mud at the goallie situation until something sticks or pray Penders really is a young Courtois.

Right now, 19 year old Penders (4 starts) is playing second fiddle at Gent to a keeper called Hendrik Van Crombrugge (18 starts)

Prayer might not be enough !

Hasn't he broke through and played more in recent weeks?

It'll probably take another season or so but if we want an upgrade from within he looks our best/only bet unless we're about to get lucky with a Donnaruma.

He's started the last two games, so fingers crossed he retains his place, and proves to be what we are all hoping he will be !

I'm not sure the relevance?

Sanchez is with us until the end of the season.  In the summer - He needs to go out on loan for a few years.  AND We need to buy an experienced goalkeeper in the summer.  I would go all out to sign Martinez from Aston Villa.  There must be other options too.

I think Sanchez is fine as a back up goalkeeper, he has some good qualities about his game.

But he can’t be starting games every single week, he makes far too many mistakes with his passing.

Maresca’s insistence on Sanchez is annoying me, how can he not see that he is massively affecting the defenders confidence?

I honestly can't think of a single good reason why we wouldn't just give Jorgensen the minutes until the end of the season. At least he has potential to improve.

Did you see the last game Jorgensen started? He was awful. Even more of a liability than Sanchez.

Which game are you talking about? Sanchez is yet to have a game for us as good as Heidenheim.

Sorry, but that just isn't possible.

lol.

Watch the game.  Jorgensen was bad.

Must admit, I only saw extended highlights and I admit Jorgensen didn't have his finest of games. That said, he did still keep a clean sheet and didn't pass to any Morecombe forward for them to put the ball straight into our net, so on that basis, he's preferable to the Clown.

Jorgensen did make the most atrocious passes at the back, he really did, it was just that it was Morecombe forwards he was dealing with, which let him off the hook.

I have to say that Sanchez is not that bad imho and he may even be a good keeper when he grows up.  He has made some great saves this season and he has decent reactions.  In his defence he is surrounded by young inexperienced defenders.  And that is where this all spirals out of control. . . We need a few grown up players in the team/squad. Just two would do it in fact!!!  I would settle for one grown up GK - I would take Martinez from Villa and one grown up CB (TBD). it would make an immense difference.

The FA Cup game against Morecambe - Jorgensen was REALLY really bad

Clean sheet. Some shaky moments but absolutely nothing that cost his team like Sanchez has and continues to do.

Grows up? He's nearly 28 lmao he's not some youth product.

One should not be having "shaky moments" when dealing with the threat of Morecombe.  Sanchex is not right for us, but Jorgensen [22]  is a kid and he is not the answer - as this game illustrated - he was having moments that were more than shaky.

Yeah, this whole "his mistakes hasn't cost us points, so it's not a big deal" thing has to stop. I don't see that excuse for any other player on the pitch. If a defender makes regular errors that lead to goals conceded or even chances for the opposition, then that defender needs to be dropped. The same goes for a striker that keeps missing chance after chance (Jackson)

It's blind luck that it's not costing us points in those games, and let's not forget the impact on their teammates. They're human, not robots, they will have it in the back of their mind that their teammate is making errors. If a keeper is making errors from corners, suddenly the players get nervous from any set piece. If a defender is caught out trying to catch a player offside, teammates may not push up out of fear of that defender making a mistake again. If a striker keeps missing chances, players may hesitate or avoid passing the ball to them (like Palmer's delayed pass for Jackson's offside goal yesterday)

This kind of thing can and often does disrupt the entire flow of the team. It will get worse and worse the longer it's left unchecked.
