"Every time I see him, he takes my breath away," former England striker Gary Lineker said recently on Match of the Day. "Of all the talented players England have got, he might be the best of the lot." BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cn4y09dyk98o I feel for the kid. The pressure can be insane but if anyone can handle it, i think he can. As long as he remains the way he is though and doesn't let it get into his head. I like what colwill said about him. “You give him half a yard and it’s a goal. He’s so laid-back about it and it’s so frustrating at times because he’ll put it through your legs and score, then walk off like nothing has happened. You can’t get him back, that is the worst thing about it. Give him any chance outside the box or inside, it’s a 95% chance it will be a goal. You see that in most games.” Edited October 10, 20241 yr by Simplymo
October 13, 20241 yr Feel sorry for him watching him play for England tonight... he's stuck out there on the right and everything is going down the left with Bellingham and Grealish... Then when something does happen down the right he's got Rice/Stones making forward runs to take him out of the picture! More frustration... wasted... And it's a sh*tty stream on ITVX so I turned it off at half time. Edited October 13, 20241 yr by Bebe1980

The balance looks wrong too. Just pass, pass, pass but no real attacking patterns.

October 14, 20241 yr Think he is going to suffer a bit every time he plays and doesn't do something special. He has set such high standards I think folk now expect him to produce worldy moments every game. Sort of happy that he had fairly quiet games in the Internationals and hope he produces some brilliance against the dippers at the weekend, but if he doesn't, hopefully some of the others will step up.

Palmer starts on the right but floats, going wherever his reading of the game takes him. That's his strength. Ditto, in a sense, Foden, who thrives in Pep's choreographed game but looks lost outside that context.
October 14, 20241 yr If Palmer isnt going to play behind the striker then don’t bother picking him, against Greece he was playing alongside Rice and then stuck on the right against Finland, that was bad enough, BUT how many times did anyone pass to him? Everytime Gomes or Bellingham got the ball they passed it to Grealish
October 14, 20241 yr Not surprised by this but surely it wont happen, although I wouldn’t trust Eghbali https://www.caughtoffside.com/2024/10/14/cole-palmer-transfer-man-city-chelsea/ https://chelsea.news/2024/10/world-class-player-back-in-training-for-chelsea-and-a-new-role-could-be-perfect-for-him/

Up to us to deliver a team that can support him and win things. I don't think he is the type to go just to highest payer.
October 14, 20241 yr What a silly but expected rumor. Palmer is on course to become the face of the Premier League and best player in the league. For all the criticism Clearlake has received, tying Palmer down to a life long contract is up there with the best decisions. They've clearly recognized Palmer's talent and the ability to monetize on him. We've even got generational talents across the globe such as Estevao and Paez saying they can't wait to play with Palmer. Unsellable.

I'm already seeing some parts of the media get at him because he wasn't at his absolute best in two sh*tty internationals that nobody cares about. They do this all of the time with young English players, build them up just to knock them down again. Now it's Palmer's turn.
October 15, 20241 yr What annoys me is that Bellingham is nowhere near Palmer on an attacking level, yet he's deemed as undroppable. Palmer is by far the better option in the 10 / AM role than Bellingham or Foden. Carsley wasted him in the last two games.
October 15, 20241 yr Let’s say for argument sake that City do bid 150m for him. He’d be mad to go back especially under Pep. Palmer thrives on the free role which he wouldn’t be allowed to do at City. The almost universal opinion by the “experts” is that he couldn’t do what he’s done at Chelsea under Pep.
October 17, 20241 yr Fantastic - now we get a month to watch Mr palmer turn Liverpool and the premiship inside out and get a result up at anfield before the next england game with our ex.
October 17, 20241 yr Would be happy to see palmer not playing for England in these pointless games, for a few reasons. As for him going back to city, media f**king bullsh*t. Pep will be gone soon anyway.
October 19, 20241 yr Read an article recently about his youth development, and concerns about his small stature- can’t remember title or article- they’re a photo of him with England Youth team mates, and he is dwarfed in comparison. Apparently he put on a huge growth spurt in his late teens. Must have been mother of all growth spurts considering he’s now six foot two
October 19, 20241 yr Let's face it , playing for England doesn't generally bring out the best in players. Playing him out of position doesn't help either. But I love watching him play, his movement, his vision, passing, and the almost imperceptible little bits of trickery when in tight positions even when the opinions of others is that he hasn't played well, he's a joy to watch. And he plays for us !

In terms of dribbling trickery, bit like Zola, he’s able to go for mazy runs, however more important is their ability to receive the ball in tight situations and play themselves out. Such a great skill to possess
October 21, 20241 yr Looks like he is human then. Thought he was anonymous yesterday, should have hooked him after 70 minutes.
October 21, 20241 yr Last season he was a revelation now the league knows about him, he will need to mix up his game a bit more. Think he has the football intelligence to do this and fortunately we have more decent attacking players too.
October 21, 20241 yr 1 hour ago, Ukraine Bolt said: Looks like he is human then. Thought he was anonymous yesterday, should have hooked him after 70 minutes. Hmmm. No player should be excluded from being subbed if not playing that well, but with Palmer, he is more capable of producing "a moment of magic" than anyone else in the side, so I would always be loathed to sub him unless he is carrying a knock. You sub Palmer and get a late penalty and someone misses, you are also having big regrets. No player can be great every game. Even the likes of Hazard and Messi have had off days. No doubt folk and pundits will be on his back if the "off-form" continues, as he was quiet against Forest and in both England games and again yesterday, but hopefully we'll see him back to his best soon.
October 21, 20241 yr That curler miss in the first half and him ignoring Madueke who had a clear shot on goal in the second half. Not a great night for him. Hopefully a reaction next weekend.
October 22, 20241 yr There is always a psychological factor in football, Cole missed a couple of chances for England and think he is desperate to get back to scoring, not passing to Madueke might be a sign of this. First sign for me of how we will be able to see how he reacts to adversity.
October 22, 20241 yr Important to take a step back and remember the lads 22. Has been a wirlwind 12 months, theres been games where he has made similar 'mistakes' or 'wrong decisions' but they have been covered by the brilliance that he is normally able to bring. But going against the grain and trying something different is exactly what seperates him from the rest. He'll be fine, nothing to bounce back from, their entire gameplan was about conjesting the space he had which led to the space the wingers had. It wont be the first time it will happen but he still found dangerous positions despite this, thats the important part.
