The injuries thread

Featured Replies

I’ve mentioned on another thread, I think the old days of pain killing injections and cortisone injections are long gone. Players values are a lot higher and therefore are protected more to further careers.

I think the best money we can spend this window is in on competent medical staff. Two players in Lavia and Nkunku come back from long term injuries only to get a different injury within weeks. There needs to be a massive inquest here.

Wasn't Chukwuemeka the same? And Broja, and basically anybody that comes back from injury with us.

Tennis players seem to be having similar problems.

Rafael Nadal, having had a hip op in the summer, has just broken down after 3 matches back and is now out of the Australian Open.

Maybe the standards and intensity of sports have simply got to the point where the human body can't cope ?

I wonder if insurances have an effect on playing players with injuries now?

Impossible to understand this.. coaching scouting or medical department.. someone is fcking up massively., this is not down to bad luck !

This isn't just at our club, there's loads of injuries all over the league, it's nothing to do with coaching, scouting or medical department, it's the amount of games and a lack of decent recovery time etc.

He is 37 though.

Possibly. We got paid out for Casiraghi after his collision at West Ham. Maybe if they look into players history they won’t pay out if playing with a potential bad injury.

I was thinking more that clubs aren't taking chances on playing players not 100%, is insurance much more strict, no allowances etc.

Chelsea and Australia striker Sam Kerr sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the club's warm weather training camp in Morocco.

Kerr, 30, joined Chelsea in 2019 and is a key figure for Emma Hayes's side with 99 goals in 128 matches.

Chelsea say she will be assessed by a specialist in the coming days and then begin her rehabilitation.

Nkunku could be back for Boro or Fulham, mixed reports on what is wrong there.

Either way something in our medical/training needs addressing.

IMO its a bigger problem than just our team given the amount of injuries across the board this season.

As this club appear to have done nothing about sorting Sam's contract out it is highly likely that she will follow Emma Hayes out of the door this summer. Yes that's right the best manager and striker in WORLD football at the moment walking out of the door aided by our negotiating team :face_palm:

we may have seen the last of Sam in a Chelsea shirt.

I am as gutted about what is happening to our women's team as to what they have done with our men's

What I am concerned with is how many of our injuries are behind closed doors, from training.  Even the latest one, to Sam Kerr, is from a warm weather training camp in Morocco.

Most of these either occur behind the scenes or break down further on the training ground or with our medical team.

The vast majority of injuries across the teams and leagues are muscular, thats from over stressing and over working. this isnt a Chelsea problem, this is the leagues and national teams running players in to the ground.

Fans want more and more games, money people in football want more money at some point something will have to give.

They should just scrap international games in the middle of the season, end the season a month or two early and play the friendlies and qualifiers a summer before the international tournament.

Arsene Wenger was on the money 6/7 years ago when he spoke up about how many games players have to play. Of course, the FIFA money and the fact he doesn't have to manage a team anymore made him change his tune but at one point he was morally correct.

Yep, isn't he now pushing for a World Cup every other year?

I remember in the early 2000's there was a ton of talk about too many games and how English football would never be able to fit in a proper winter break like they do in other countries.

Do they? I have seen many fans often point out that there are too many games. They hate the schedule too, but put up with it because they want to go and support their team.
